4-3-3 doesn't use wingers. He would likely play right attack. You're slacking Turkish.

If there is one thing Isgrove, who has played all preseason isn't its a 'pacy wide man' where does that leave Tadic then? He's been playing in your right attack role all preseason. And we're going to pay £15m for a poacher and shunt them out to right attack are we?? Not sure who is slacking here pal.

I've actually seen schelotto play. I was visiting Rome earlier this year and went to see Lazio v Parma in the Italian cup. Lazio won 2-1 but Schelotto was excellent. Played in a wide attacking role, always a threat going forward, quick and strong, he put 4 chances on a plate for Casanno who squandered them all!! he's great at crosses, can cut inside or go outside with good pace. He reminded me very much of Neil Heaney when he first joined. He also comes from a big family so he'd love the southampton way and family club feel to us, with a decent striker to put balls into such as Pelle. I think we could Be signing a real star.

Loving how people are actually reading and believing this. It's as if they've never been on this forum before.

Isn't Tadic able to play in the left attacking role as he is two-footed? Personally I don't think Hernandez will want to come here, but I do believe there is a role for him in that position due to the style of play favoured.

It's not a question of if he's good enough. It where does he fit in a 4-3-3. If we're going to play with two wingers then we need a striker who can hold the ball up, Hernandez is a good finisher but does most of his work 12 yards from goal, he's not the player to play as a centre forward type. If we're going to play 2 up top then it would work, if its just one then I can't see where he fits other than as a sub and he won't come here to do that and we won't spend £15m for that.

Surely that's not a rigid formation and we'd be using other formations to play different teams. I don't see us being as arrogant as we were under Pochettino where we expected other teams to adapt to our one formation (and then have no plan b).

I think we'll see variations of 433, 352 and so on. We will see!

But regardless, at the moment, I'd rather we did get Hernandez in - proven pedigree and easily good for 15-20 goals provided he gets the service. I like the look of Pelle as a player, but he hasn't been scoring against lower league opposition, so would rather we didn't rely on him as a sole '9'.

Turkish and Bateman in serious football discussion shock. I'm off for a lie down.

Love the transfer window when my global scouting reports from all players we are linked with, however obscure, can be aired to the wider forum audience. :)

I could also make up a story about how I've seen Schelotto play and how great he was, but you shouldn't take any notice because it's exactly that; made up. Turkish gave himself away with the big family/southampton way/saints family stuff. Oh and the fact it's Turkish so don't believe a word he says! :)

Apart from the fact that some of us know Turkish was in Rome and did go to a Lazio game.

The thing with these loans is we are starting to get a bit of depth to midfield. A few different options to change style or formation. Something we lacked last year.

I stand by what I said when the sales started. Our starting 11 maybe weaker but our squad will be stronger.

hope not butland ffs .....

As you might expect following the raft of departures from St Mary's so far this summer, there's plenty of Southampton speculation in the papers. The Sun Sunday claims Southampton will make an offer for Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, while the Mail on Sunday reports the club are planning a £70million spree and are interested in Manchester United trio Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young and Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha OR Young, it says.

Would actually prefer Young - yes he dives but so did Lallana. Young is probably more developed as a player to get straight in the team.

Won't happen anyway though, but a nice thought.

Ok will rephrase. Seems we are bringing god average players

Hope I am wrong. Been so many times before

He may be god/good (??) average but if he's not replacing, then surely he is bringing in new skills to the team? Is that not good, especially as he is on loan?

He is taking up a place in the squad. He is going to cost us money. With the brash statement from Ralph and the money we have received

I honestly thought we would be getting in better better players than this. Far better players. Guess not

And our squad was thin last season, so great news we're bringing in experienced players to deepen it.

Exactly.

I get the impression Schelotto might be used to offer competition to Isgrove on the wings. It's maximising benefit really. If Isgrove is better than Schelotto, then we can be rid of the loanee and invest in Isgrove. If it's the other way round, at least we have 'decent' back up. I'm glad that the club, as opposed to just importing a high-wage high-fee player for every position, are willing to promote the youth and give them a good shot at claiming a place in the starting XI.

Yep. Which is what we've done with Bertrand. Rather than sign a player for several million on a 3-4 year deal we've got a decent player in on a loan so we can bring through Targett at the speed he is ready. I guess the club must think that they are both a year or so away from being first team regulars.

Agreed. Barely anyone has seen this guy play - he may light up the league (or at least do well) and help raise the level of competition for the younger players to aspire to?

However he may be totally guff and ineffective and we ship him out at very little cost. If all we've lost are his wages then that's no big deal, it's not like we're going to lose £xxm as we inevitably will on Osvaldo.

Or that the club are severely cutting back ;)
