Some of the press claiming we are about to go on a 70 million spree with the likes of van Dijk, Hernandez, Forster, Vlaar, Ashley Young(!!!) and Zaha as likely signings.

We'll see.............

believe it when i see it.

think hernandez would be the marquee signing there but tbh hasnt proved himself any where other than utd (but is that a bad thing) rojo would be the real crowd pleaser IMO.

Unfortunately I doubt most of our fans have heard of Rojo.

To be honest, I can't see how a player like Hernandez fits into a 4-3-3, usually the CF in that formation is stronger and can hold up the play, not really Hernandez' game at all.

Quite clearly not the role for Hernandez, that's what we've bought Pelle for. If it happens, Hernandez will run off the man.

I don't get this Marquee signing thing ... Is it like a high profile signing that sends a message out that we can attract the best! Look at us we're big time etc. I don't think that's a great strategy long term. just saying :)

Posted
You can't see how Hernandez will play off of Pelles hold up play?

But what else would he add as one of the three? He's a good finisher, but link up play, pressing, creating for others?

Posted
If we're going to spend big, I think we can do better thn Hernandez or Zaha. That article looks like they've just hashed together a load of bits and pieces, no real clear focus on any actual news.

Am I in a parallel universe? A 26 year old with 58 goals in 4 seasons at United and 36 goals for Mexico is suddenly not good enough for us at 15 million? (The cost of a 19 year old right back with 21 professional appearances)

Granted, he may not particularly fit into a 4-3-3 as the lone striker, but at the minute we're going into the season with a guy whose had 2 good seasons in the dutch league and a 19 year old rookie.

Hernandez is one of the most gifted finishers I've ever seen, but maybe it's me who's mad

Don't worry, you're not in a parallel universe. It's just saintsweb.

58 goals? He's a very good finisher, if we're happy to carry him for that, then fine. I can't see him being happy being a regular sub for us, we'll see.

Why on earth would he be a sub?

I really do not rate Hernandez, nothing to do with Saints size of as a club, just never rated him. Misses a lot of chances, the media (for what ever reason) big him up when he scores but does little else. I have to watch a lot of man u due to a few mates supporting them and if I were Van Gal I would be trying to ship him out for over 10 mil too.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2146058-spotting-a-good-value-under-the-radar-signing-for-chelsea

Interesting article on Hernandez, in particular this paragraph: "Hernandez would suit a 4-3-3, playing on either side of the striker. His pace would certainly be a threat, not to mention his knack for ghosting into danger areas to score goals. Again, that threat is something Chelsea themselves have fallen victim to plenty of times in the past."

Echoes my thoughts on how we'd incorporate him, more of an inside forward than out and out striker. This would be a formidable line up and has pretty good strength in depth and importantly flexibility that we lacked a bit last year:

Pellè

Hernandez Rodriguez

Tadic/Davis/Gaston

Morgan/JWP Vic/Cork

Bertrand/Targett Vlaar/Van Dijk/Fonte (2 of) Clyne

Forster/Boruc

Pretty sure Hernandez is more than good enough for a regular starting place for us. Laughable that some think otherwise. There's no chance of him coming here anyway. Zaha would be a possibility as it'll probably be a loan

By the sounds of it we will already have our quota of loans whatever that is.

If we really are interested in Hernandez / Vlaar etc I would imagine their agents will be making them wait till the end of the window to flush out other potential buyers.

sounds like a modern day Ted McDougal that would be fine for me. He did little but score goals, and after all goals is what the game is about

Putting people in the team because they're very good players is what England do.

Not sure if it has been mentioned

But spurs beat Celtic 6 -1

Foster was not even in the bench . Gordon was in goal in an under strength Celtic

Pretty much a Celtic youth / reserve squad. Forster didn't play, but then none of the first team squad who are likely to feature in the 2nd leg against Legia Wasaw played. The only the first team player who did feature was Efe Ambrose, and this should concern us. He got sent off in the 1st Leg against Legia, and he also got sent off in the 90th minute for 2 yellow cards yesterday. As it's a friendly, I'm not sure it will carry a suspension, but it must make then think twice about letting Van Dijk go.

I've actually seen schelotto play. I was visiting Rome earlier this year and went to see Lazio v Parma in the Italian cup. Lazio won 2-1 but Schelotto was excellent. Played in a wide attacking role, always a threat going forward, quick and strong, he put 4 chances on a plate for Casanno who squandered them all!! he's great at crosses, can cut inside or go outside with good pace. He reminded me very much of Neil Heaney when he first joined. He also comes from a big family so he'd love the southampton way and family club feel to us, with a decent striker to put balls into such as Pelle. I think we could Be signing a real star.

Thanks. Great to have some positive knowledge based on watching him play, as opposed to the doom mongers who have made up their minds he is crap based on nothing at all

If it were one of them it would have ended with my necking Peroni with the Lazio owners whilst 3 fit Italian girls joined in the singing of the if I had the wings of a sparrow song.

Its hardly laughable, he barely played in a floundering utd team that had Rooney and RVP out for most of last season, also struggles to get regular action for Mexico right now. As much as he is an excellent poacher that is about all he has in his locker, build up play and hold up is virtually non existant.

Now, potentially he could play off pelle but that IMO would be incorperated into the 433 and so wont be as effective. Besides, we'll already have J Rod for that. Id much rather pay for a natural wide man and another CF who can play the system rather than spend 15m and god knows how much a week on a bloke that happens to be half decent on fifa

He does strike me as a bit of a journeyman who would benefit from Koeman making him feel wanted. Clearly has talent.

Thanks for the i nfo...sounds like a useful player and one that could work with RK's system. Did he play left or right?

Regarding Hernandez, this would be a great signing for us I think...a proper sign of intent taking an international level player from Utd.

I could also make up a story about how I've seen Schelotto play and how great he was, but you shouldn't take any notice because it's exactly that; made up. Turkish gave himself away with the big family/southampton way/saints family stuff. Oh and the fact it's Turkish so don't believe a word he says! :)

Koeman said we wanted 2/3 in this weekend, Guan said one in on Monday unless it is leaked (So we can assume that is another/the third Koeman is talking about). Taider looks like he will be coming on Tuesday. That *could* mean 5 players in by Tuesday.

Tadier and Schelotto are part of the three surely? When he said this weekend he probably meant deals agreed then not necessarily announced then.

By saying it though he puts pressure on the club to close the deals.

Prediction:

Tadier and Schelotto in this coming week, maybe on other next week.

Get Hernandez in FFS. Anyone questioning if he's good enough is bat sh1t crazy

It's not a question of if he's good enough. It where does he fit in a 4-3-3. If we're going to play with two wingers then we need a striker who can hold the ball up, Hernandez is a good finisher but does most of his work 12 yards from goal, he's not the player to play as a centre forward type. If we're going to play 2 up top then it would work, if its just one then I can't see where he fits other than as a sub and he won't come here to do that and we won't spend £15m for that.

4-3-3 doesn't use wingers. He would likely play right attack. You're slacking Turkish.

Seems it might be a case of persuading him to join us over Inter (if Inter are actually seriously interested). He didn't completely rule out joining us though as his quotes a few days ago in the Mail said he'd consider all options.

Would be a grand signing indeed.
