Transfer Rumours Only

According to Wiki, Okazaki scored 15 goals in 33 apps for Mainz last season. Good record for Japan scoring 39 goals in 79 apps.

Despite his goal scoring record (largely against Asian opposition), has always looked toothless for Japan - striker is the one position that's really held them back.

Reminds me of a beefier, better Brett Omerod.

Still he must have scored all those goals for Japan somewhere or other. However they might have had some 8-0 wins against island minnows or something.

No rumours about us getting shot of any of our dead wood then. Don't like that.

I saw that Turnbull was on trial for a loan at Swindon or something though. It's a start I suppose.

Main dead wood is Sharp (whondidnt feature at Bmth), Gazzaniga (who we need til we get a keeper in) and Hoofield (who we need, sadly, until we get 2 CBs in).

Can't think of any others?

My crude quality-adjusted measure suggests that 30 of his 39 international goals came against weak opposition. If you're being generous and count Latvia and Canada as strong opposition, that number drops to 27.

No I think we can leave it at 30. That's where goal scoring stats become misleading...well that and penalties.

I would keep Jos here, seems like a really decent guy and always seems to be the first to welcome the new guys,I get the impression he is very well liked around the club, people like him are valuable in more ways than others.just a pity he is not the greatest CB

always a possibility, not sure that we do that though. He refused (or reportedly refused) us as part of the Shaw deal on the grounds that we were too much of a step down for him.

No, agreed, and I personally wouldn't want to see the club do it either.

But it's such a strange one: I don't see why he'd want to stay at United to bench warm, which is almost an inevitability considering the amount of attacking options at United's disposal. Chicarito's 26, and clearly a talented player - with Saints he has the perfect opportunity to create a prolific playing career in the PL. Bizarre.

Edit: It almost stinks of arrogance and, on reflection, do we really want a player like that in our squad?

i think the main thing that we'd have to work out is him not wanting to play for us.

I suppose we'll have to make him an offer he can't refuse.

No, he might be persuaded as ratio-decidendi suggests, but he'd always begrudge being here at all. We don't need any more sulkers in the dressing room.

Quite right Del. I don't know why I'm surprised that the masses can't see the merits of this deal. It's great business.

Agree entirely, it's possibly one of the shrewdest moves we could've made.....proven PL standard player, cover in the position for at least a season while Targett develops but if it doesn't work out and we decide he's not one for the long term, he goes back.....the fact that we have £90mill in the bank doesn't mean we have to spend every last penny of it....

Or any of it in fact!

Amy Lewis has just linked us with Utd's Hernandez again. Still think this would be a brilliant signing if all parties can work something out.

I suppose this could be the marquee signing.

Can't see it happening though unless we break the bank and the wage structure and risk upsetting the current squad.

Hernandez would be great given our problems! We need a poacher badly.

But not a loan!!

I can't help but think a loan in this instance would be perfect for both parties. We don't know if he will be able to find form and he obviously doesn't see any stability here. Rather that than pay 15 million for a flop who quickly decides he doesn't want to be here. Hang about that sounds familiar…jokes.

Where have the outrageous Ronaldinho rumours on Twitter come from? More ridiculous than the Rivaldo to Bolton rumours from about 10 years ago...

But that post was more to play with a thought what might give the club a stronger commercial side since Krueger has spoken so much about it...and since there were articles about him and QPR I was trying to open a discussion commercial aspekt vs footballing aspect in our position...

Looks like some on twitter have decided this is a serious possibility  nice work!

The West Ham fans seem to think they're in for him, too...

Koeman: "I'm still looking for a striker and a defender '

Ronald Koeman was happy with Pelle and Tadic. "The leadership has promised me that we can attract more players. Pelle is the only striker, so I definitely want a striker and preferably a defender."

"But as you have seen, the conditions are ideal here. I did not think that an English terms average club like Southampton is such a large and professional organization. It really is a dream to work. Till now here Erwin and I particular time. "

And then with a big smile: "Now the results are."

I hope we can stick an 's on the end of both of those positions...as we need a hell of a lot more than just 2!
