My concerns are all the reports are that "we are preparing bids" you would expect solid bids in for players by now.nothing but pure speculation going on other than the Forster bid, deals in the prem for decent players are hard to keep quiet as usually something is leaked,to date we have heard nowt.

I have a feeling we will not be signing the calibre of player we are hoping for.

Please Sfc prove me wrong

New link....Jonas.

http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/southampton-valencia-target-set-for-talks-this-week

Sounds to me like agent talk though as his contract is running down.

I clicked on that link and then wiki expecting some past it journey man, but actually his stats are pretty good. A goal every three games is decent going, especially in Spain for a mid table team. He'd be worth a go if Ings fell through or Rodriguez left.

Clasie has just recently started following him again apparently though.

I don't think thats true, Twitter lists the people you are following in the order you followed them. Koeman is a long way down Clasie's list which indicates he started following him quite a while ago.

Must admit, I'd never heard of him until now. Seems to have a good goal scoring ratio and has played and scored for Brazil. He is 30 though, I can't work out if we'd sign him as our first choice as that surely will be Pellé. Id rather have Ings as our second choice than this guy (based purely on age, as I have no idea what this guy is like.)

That's what I thought but maybe he followed him at Feyenoord, un-followed him when he left and now he is doing it it slots him back where he was ?

Too bored to test it though, I'm off to the celtic forum to cheer myself up.

Nope, it adds them back at the top of the list.

Apparently RK is after Leroy Fer (Daily Star, Express)

Koeman is also considering whether to take Serge Gnabry or Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal, having sent Chambers the other way. (Daily Star)

I'm not fussed about Fer, but I would definitely take those two Arsenal lads in return. That should be part of the negotiation over Chambers.

Burnley move for Ambrose may keep Van Dijk at Celtic

VIRGIL VAN DIJK's hopes of making a big-money move to England could be blocked - by his Hoops team-mate, Efe Ambrose.

The futures of Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk are linked at Celtic

The futures of Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk are linked at Celtic

The Nigerian is being targeted by Premier League new boys, Burnley. And his sale would almost certainly mean no-go for the Dutchman

Clarets boss, Sean Dyche, is in the market to strengthen his side, and has already recruited six players. But he has laughed off suggestions promotion for the Lancashire club means he can now shop in the big bucks sales department.

He said: "We can't spend £8million on players, I assure you."

Ambrose - who joined Celtic in a £1.2m deal from FC Ashdod two years ago - is, however, considered within their budget.

He was handed an improved contract last October, which will run until 2017.

However, after impressing at the World Cup finals with Nigeria, an offer for the 25-year-old is now anticipated.

If Ambrose is permitted to leave, it would make it extremely unlikely that his defensive partner, van Dijk, would also be allowed to move in this window.

With Fraser Forster still being tracked by Southampton - who are reported to be ready to increase their initial bid of £7m to nearer £9m - it would leave a huge hole in the centre of the defence which set a new Scottish shut out record last season.

Deila has made it clear he wants Forster to stay for at least another season.

But, if the Hoops' valuation is met - and cash-rich Saints are not the only club to have registered an interest - his sale would be very hard to resist.

Winning through to the group stage of the Champions League - and the cheque that guarantees - would not only underline Celtic's insistence they do not need to sell, but also provide the big stage platform their top players believe they need.

Forster, Van Dijk and Ambrose will all be key men in the side which hopes to take another major step towards the group stage when they face Legia Warsaw in the second qualifying round first leg in Poland on Wednesday.

Deila will insist that all of his players ignore growing speculation about their futures and focus fully on this crunch game against the Polish champions.

Anthony Stokes is back in the squad after recovering from his slight hamstring strain, and will resume training today.

Deila recognises his side will have to play even better than they did when they demolished KR Reykjavik 4-0 in the second leg of their opening round tie last week if they are to return with a positive result from Warsaw.

The Norwegian is not being suckered in by claims from his countryman, Legia boss Henning Berg, that the Hoops go into the tie as clear favourites.

Deila said: "Every opponent is difficult now.

"Legia are much stronger than KR Reykjavik, and it's a step up.

"They are going to be exciting games and we have a good chance."

Theres no logic in that article, just a Celtic 'pay more money' ploy. If Celtic dont want to sell two CBs they'll keep the one they are going to net less from - Ambrose. .

So befoer the transfer window closes - we need:

GK, RB CB CB LB, AM, AM, ST

Plus potentially a CM and another ST if Morgan and JRod leave.....

Thats not a small job.

and never ever going to happen

we will start this season, considerably weaker than what finished last season

We might want all those players this transfer window, but we do not need them all without wishing to pedantic. We certainly need a CB and LB, but Buric and Clyne are first 11 standard. I accept that we need some cover, but we might still be ok buying cover in January. Not ideal but I would not go into meltdown if we do not sign eight more players this window.

We need atleast one other player who can play at full back. Last year we scraped through with 3 players who can play at full back, we currently have 2, one of which has never played a competitive game for us - Clyne and Targett. I'd say we need atleast a left back, and then probably someone else who can play RB. What happens if Clne get injured for 3 months?! Cork?

This is the premier league, and the youth players are not always going to turn out the standard of Chambers, Shaw, Bale etc.

At AM we currently have Gaston, Davis, and Tadic. Cover we have......JWP? Isgrove? thats not particularly very strong is it.

Rodriguez has to be priced at his peak value. So £30m is a decent ball park. Either that will kill it or Liverpool will end up paying something in that region. How valuable to us as a player. Sad to say for half the season no use at all. It is a serious injury which required surgery. Full fitness will take time. Even if he is ready to play the second half of the season often there are a procession of other compensatory injuries that occur, various pulls, reactions, even set backs in the knee itself that could limit appearances. It may be next season before he is available fully.

IMO if a bid comes in that is £25m+ we should take it. Realistically his contract is running down, his new 5 year contract is unsigned which means to me we won't get another full season out of him as we would have to let him go next summer or risk a Bosman free the following year.

Hull have had a bid accepted for Harry Maguire. He'd be a great addition for us IMO. Centre back, young, lots of potential. Looked composed when I've seen him (which granted isn't a lot). Has interested Man Utd in the past.

If he joins Hull, they're starting to put together a neat little side.

Definitely. A side that won't set the world on fire, but will provide consistency through the PL. Then again, I thought the same thing about Norwich last season.

Maybe while Reed is away on holiday we can get this fella to do our scouting @andrew_saintsfc Thinks Holland were lucky to get to 3rd place in the WC so could be even more deluded than Reed is at the moment.

He always talks bo!!ocks.

Maguire IMO isnt mobile enough for the PL. Would do a good job in the Championship probably. We are in need of better.

He might work in Hull's back three however if we continue to play 4-3-3 then I would be worried with him in our central defence. Much rather we play Stephens or Turnbull in that case.

Don't think any of them are Prem quality. If you're relying on Turnbull and Stephens it's going to be a long old season.
