Simon Peach just mentioned Geoff Cameron from Lazio, seen his name mentioned before, not a clue about him personally. Panic buy late 20's dross or scout gem with bags of potential?

What's wrong with Geoff Cameron? A solid and reliable premiership pro who will add to our squad depth. What is wrong with that?

 

I'm guessing if he was named Geoffano Camerono from Inter, then we'd all be excited.

Stoke fans don't seem to rate him but as you say he is solid/reliable and would only be signed as cover. Better to go cheap on this position if we means we can spend more on the other more vital areas.

Cameron would be better at CB than Jos and provide cover for Clyne at right back (albeit he's nowhere near as good as an attacking full back).

 

Would he bothered leaving Stoke to be a bit part player here?

Who ever we sign he needs to be young so that the skill and the value both go up as with Lovren, Morgan, JRod, Clyne, these were good buys whether they stay with us or move on but once we start buying 26+ neither the performance nor the value rise

I seem to remember a time when we stocked up on cover players without improving the squad. That went really well didn't it? Only a numpty would consider the name of agiven player an indicator of his competency, so not sure why you've mentioned this (again) unless you're some sort of closet racist The origin of the player may have a standing...I.e. better to sign a player from L2 or Serie A to play in the Prem?

Toby would be a great addition, had a great world cup. But struggles to get in a very good At. Madrid defence. (no shame!). I believe he can also cover right back too, and has actually played a fair few games there during his career.

 

Sounds like it has some legs, as well. As well as the Jordy one, which makes me query why....he's not a winger, he's a DM/CM.....morgan...?

Unless the intention, given our seeming difficulty getting in a winger, is to put him at right back and push Clyne further forward. Might that be a possibility?

Would seem a bit of a square pegs round holes kind of move. I think we'll get a wide man too, lots going on I'd have thought.

Alderweireld would be a brilliant signing for us, he's a CL quality defender and a better player than Lovren as well imo. Can also play RB so will shut up those people moaning about a lack of cover there!

 

Him and a winger and I would be happy with our signings this window.

Either of those would be superb.

 

I don't think we would have a chance in hell of signing them mind.

More confident about Clasie just because he seems to be spending forever to move anywhere, unless he is just using us to get more money from Porto. He feels like a genuine wow signing if we can pull it off.

 

The other one seems interesting/strange, was expecting a Byram "young cover" signing in that area, this one seems like a straight-in-the-team buy, which leaves either Clyne or Gardos on the bench. Squad game, yes, yes, but seems odd to me, unless RK really is going to unleash three centre backs, Dutch style. Hmmmm.

Just curious because if we are going to rely on the lone striker to get a s--t load of goals it ain't gonna happen IMHO

Apparently we've joined the posse of clubs after Alessio Cerci, striker from Torino. Can't see that happening, probably just Italian newspaper crap.

Trade off for Gaston perhaps, weren't they interested in him this summer ?

With what we currently have, we have the option of 2 up front, Long and Pelle. But we don't have enough wide players to feed them. Tadic, yes, Isgrove as cover, but that's about it.

A first page headline from Italian media outlet Tuttosport has claimed this morning that Arsenal will face competition from fellow Premier League club Southampton to acquire the services of Torino striker Alessio Cerci, the 27 year old who is dubbed as the ‘Italian Messi’.

 

The snippet mentions that Southampton are set to offer €12m for acquiring the services of Cerci, the player who hit the back of the net 13 times and grabbed an equal number of assists last term in 38 appearances for the Turin based club.

We have no chance if Arsenal want him.

 

He's more of a wide man than an out and out striker though. If he wants regular first team football, he may consider us.

I think from what little I've seen of Clasie unlike most of our midfielders he makes forward passes as a first option. Essential if we are going to play wide men and put runners down the channels to reinforce Pelle.

At the moment it feels to me as if we have too many 'safe' midfielder s. That's not to say that they are poor etc, but they are more inclined to play the ball sideways or backwards to retain posession rather than gamble with a forward pass. Last season Lallana often provided that forward pass, and Lambert would drop off to provide it as well - Tadic seems to be the player who looks up at what's in front of him, but the game seems a little fast for him right now.

 

In many ways, this team is crying out for a Gaston type player. Someone who can receive the ball in the centre and stretch the game to the flanks, someone with a bit of bravery to make the killer pass. Might not always come off and we may lose possession at times off the back of it, but you need a player willing to do that, otherwise you play out 0-0's for fun.

Absolutely. I think this is why people still have Gaston in the back of their minds, we simply don't have another player like him and that's why we're all hoping he now shows something on a consistent basis...starting with tonight, hopefully!

Back in training this week. Maybe be enough for a place on the bench...who knows.

 

Frustrating really that his season is already being fragmented.

Gaston ? Hardly ever is so probably not, you just have to accept that Gaston is a 15 game a season player at best, well in the PL anyway, he's not robust enough for

90 minutes 1 and a half times a week from August to May.
