Mods I think this deserves an infraction LOL and BTW I am not rewriting history just giving my opinion OK sorry it don't agree with yours Surprisingly I agree with Hypo. To say the players and fans player of the year had only one decent game last year is a rewritten version of history that the North Korean government would be proud of. farawaysaint Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 Echo reports Morgan won't be involved in a Townsend swap deal and that we have no interest in Gonzales. http://m.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11422941._/ The club obviously is leaking to the echo. angelman Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 The club obviously is leaking to the echo. Still laughing at the fee Tottenham offered though. No problem with that. One could say that the national press has been somewhat "hostile" towards us, so might as well have a friend in the local press rather than them being "hostile" as well. Had some quite good pieces in past weeks from them.

Turkish Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 (edited) 122 pages of "transfer rumours only". Interesting to remember why this thread got started by Jimmy D..... the original got moved because it had drifted off topic. Bring back the totty. Its got to be more interesting than the feeble point scoring and bickering we're getting at the moment. I disagree . This time of year is peak period for the Mongboard, many people really raise their game during the summer with their post after post of utter drivel. It's also a good scouting perod where you can check out the posts of who people think we should or can sign and formations we'll play etc to see who hasn't got a clue what they're on about, there are usually plenty of them that come out of the woodwork at this time of year too along with out forum staples like Wes Ender who post after post never disappoints. saint_ed Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 Looks like that McKay to manage Palace has fallen through Now people will understand why I was SO against any suggestion of Malky when he was rumoured with Saints. As I said at the time, it would demonstrate all the proof I needed that the board is incompetent. Thankfully they allayed those fears by appointing RK! saint_ed Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 I've been told that our final two deals are imminent and that will definitely be it as far as recruitment for this window. We seem very confident of getting these two done as we are no longer looking at alternative options. That makes me think that perhaps we MAY have moved on from Townsend to an alternative. I don't have names unfortunately.

alpine_saint Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 To my mind we are still short at GK (if Boruc cannot get himself out of his strop), CB, wing, ST, so if there are two more deals to be done I am wondering what two positions are being de-prioritised. I havent really considered RB to be a priority since I reckon Corky can do a job if really needed. I am guessing GK is lower priority, since there is no strong rumours of Boruc being on his way. Please dont let the other be CB, we have so suffered over the years by not placing enough importance to that position.
The9 Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 Tadic coming from Holland via Serbia is relevant because while you think he can just drop in, I think he has a job to do to adjust to the league, the city, the club and his new team. He is a newcomer in all departments. It is very difficult to expect him to stroll in and take on the role of a massively significant member of our squad. Wasn't it you saying a while back that all good managers have an instant impact, hit the ground running, and there's no gelling period needed? Doesn't that go for players too? NB: I think Tadic had a good first game and looks like he could be decent, but the "might get found out" thing is a valid concern, he looks like a pretty straight line player at the moment and hasn't yet shown the types of twisty-turny unpredictability Lallana was successful with - but you'd assume he wouldn't have got this far without the ability to go past people, by whatever method he uses. That's a lovely left field bit of whataboutery, well done. Funny the "no such thing as instant success" routine from the forum brains trust is dead now, in that four of our last five managers delivered exactly that. It's a shame, I miss the Alex Ferguson story being endlessly retold. Let's be clear: I like Tadic and hope he will be the best signing we make this summer. He has massive boots to fill. My beef us with Wes Tender sneeringly dismissing Lallana as not a significant player for us, comparing him leaving Saints with Andy Carroll leaving Liverpool as a flop, and Lallana being straightforward to replace because the club has replaced poor performing players with better ones and this is just like that. I know Les is waiting for Tadic to score and have a great game so he can pretend I have written him off but I haven't for a second: I think he's going to be brilliant, and by far the most exciting signing we've made. The highlight of this window was actually a post not on this forum where the person said we should sign Nathan Redmond as a replacement for shaw. Despite it being pointed out that Redmond was an attacking player the poster was indignant that he'd make a great left back and had played there quite a bit for Norwich. The9 Posted 21 August, 2014 Share Posted 21 August, 2014 Its better than putting no-one there in an emergency, and he's played there in the past Based on actually having seen them play there in competitive matches for Saints, in cases of emergency I'd recommend Fonte at right back ahead of Yoshida (was awful on his debut when put at right back, showing the kind of dismal reading of long high passes he's since become notorious for), and Cork, who was awful every time he played there including at St Mary's for England U21s, mainly due to not being able to pass longer balls up the wing accurately, lack of pace and some dubious positioning, including the one where we drew 1-1 with Arsenal and someone claimed he was Man of the Match despite a match report in which his only mention was for a handball in the box. Of course that leaves the RCB position for someone, and oh how we should have kept Calum Chambers (but wait, if he was in the squad he'd be RB and there wouldn't be a need for the RCB to move), etc.

I would imagine the two we're in for are a winger and a right back/general utility defender; we'll be fine for strikers with Pelle, Long and Gallagher, with Rodriguez due back in the not too distant future, Boruc isn't going anywhere and is old and smart enough to give it his best shot when he's needed. Hopefully the Gardos and Fonte pairing will work out, Yoshi's fine as a back up and hopefully RK's smart enough to put Stephens ahead of Hooiveld in the CB pecking order. They should be taken down a peg or two, especially as we're looking to come out of this window nearly as string as we entered it. I disagree. The communication coming out of the club was f**king awful over the early summer; statements contradicted 24 hours later, silence at other crucial times, social media abuse from certain players, and all the time an unanswered exodus for which no proper explanation was forthcoming (and probably never will be). Hardly surprising a range of interpretations were adopted. And in fairness, I dont know what you stand to gain from your summer stance, but imo you appear to have your tongue up the backside of some club offical, so bad is your cloying support that you are a serious contender to NickG in the happy-clappy stakes.
