Whitey Grandad Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 There is a pacey direct winger at forest called Antonio we should look at. He scored 2 yesterday and seems to link up really well with the talented left back they have, Fox or something like that. They seem to have found their level.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 But they are young and hungry and bound to improve.
BigShadow Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 McManaman missed a couple of very good chances yesterday. Worth watching on iplayer if you're really keen on him. Expected him to be one of the players Martinez took to Everton, but must have thought he wasn't worth the money Wigan wanted. Price must have come down now though.
ART Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Alex Pearce, Reading's center back would be a good defense squad player. Did well for us on loan and can play a number of positions.
Saint Charlie Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Ok fair but which proven premiership quality wingers can we a) afford and b) entice to join us ? We all know we are not shopping in the top market so we may have to either gamble on potential or settle for a flawed player, Memphis Depay is not likely to be coming our way. How about Zaha on loan? Not perfect but got plenty about him and could develop well at the club. A 'loan to buy' arrangement could be decent business. For a start a player like Townsend is in a different league to Forestieri and McManaman - and we obviously feel we can get him. There must be another Tadic out there somewhere, afterall we have 20 scouts assessing thousands of games in Europe.

There must be another Tadic out there somewhere, afterall we have 20 scouts assessing thousands of games in Europe. Townsend divides opinion but I would agree he is quality. Though the fact we have shifted our focus would suggest either we are trying a bit of gamesmanship with spurs or we got feedback from Spurs that suggests we may not be able to secure Townsend. The other two, if the scouts feel they can make the step up, why not? We have had success with players stepping up from the Championship before and the prices may be better. Like you though I would hope we could find another gem like Tadic who is quality at a reasonable price ... though this is, in itself, a gamble.
Dellman Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Please no more journeymen, that would be back to the bad old days, better to get young hopefuls even if it means losing them when they improve, at least we make a financial advance but with 28/29 year olds its downhill all the way

Surely spurs will want Morgan involved in any deal or will play hard ball over any fee. Does anybody really think levy is going to be reasonable over the fee if we continue to block attempts to sign Morgan

Imagine they would be more willing to entertain a bid from say Hull or the like. Only way I see us getting him, other than in a horrid Morgan swap, is on deadline day. If they want to sell him we and we can tempt them with a decent offer they can spend on their defensive targets it could get over the line ...
Wade Garrett Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Don't think Levy would have any problem whatsoever selling him to us. He wants rid, wants good money, and doesn't want to strengthen any team chasing a European place.
ScratchySaint Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 A winger with good service is a must. If we can manage that, i reckon it'll bring the best out of Pelle. (hopefully)
Saint Charlie Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Will Buckley causing a threat for Sunderland, exactly the style of option we need. Will take people on and asks the defender if he is up to the task of stopping him.He cost £3m I think.
Webby Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Anyone have any idea what Ron Vlaar's private no. plate is?

Very good player, them having Poyet gave them a massive advantage in terms of signing him though.
Batman Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Well Chadli did more in one match than Townsend managed last season. Can definitely see them getting rid if they're still in the market for attackers. Lamela and Chadli are well ahead, Lennon there as competition, then Townsend. You'd imagine Townsend wants a move to play regularly. right now, I would welcome townsend
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 He'll go to QPR, Harry is getting desperate.
Wade Garrett Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 He'll go to QPR, Harry is getting desperate. They've already signed Mutch. They should be looking more at their defence. I reckon he might come here.
Badger Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Can't see Townsend moving to us, as he'll consider he is better than Saints (and could earn more elsewhere).
Wade Garrett Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Can't see Townsend moving to us, as he'll consider he is better than Saints (and could earn more elsewhere). Where?
Badger Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Where? QPR for starters, then there may be others once firmly known he is prepared to move (Newcastle springs to mind) and he may even want to stay at WHL to wait his chance.
Saints4Prem Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Anyone have any idea what Ron Vlaar's private no. plate is? I looked on Google and the last car I found was a Porsche Panamera with a dutch reg. Have you got something you want to share?

Batman Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Joel Ward going to Southampton, unhappy with not being offered an improved contract at Palace and recent change in management. that is a rumour, nothing more (soggy)

LeBenali Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 In The Sunday People today we've been linked with a Bayer Leverkusen defender Phillip Wollscheid, but face competition from West Ham. Think his name was mentioned earlier in the summer?
Saint Billy Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 Where have all the ITK's gone? Cowshot for bank holiday?

JxgrSaint Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 What's Les Read's middle name? He's the Man With No (Middle) Name, riding off into the Swiss sunset with A Fistful of Dollars...

DuncanRG Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 that is a rumour, nothing more (soggy) I really like him, he'd make a cracking utility/competition signing. Depth problems at centre back and right back sorted in one go and would give Clyne a real run for his money. Where'd you get it from?
Badger Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 What's Les Read's middle name? I remember reading an article about him a couple of years ago, and his middle name given there was an unusual one, Theoloneus or something like that.
JxgrSaint Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 I remember reading an article about him a couple of years ago, and his middle name given there was an unusual one, Theoloneus or something like that. He does look a bit like a Monk...
Katalinic Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 I remember reading an article about him a couple of years ago, and his middle name given there was an unusual one, Theoloneus or something like that. No it really is Arnold.
Rebel Posted 24 August, 2014 Posted 24 August, 2014 I imagine Les Reeds middle name is 'Incompetent' - it's certainly looked that way this summer For all the talk of keeping our manager and not selling our best players that's exactly what we've done. Then we talked about selling our players for premium prices and bringing in better players and adding strength in depth. So far it seems all we've done is replace the players we've sold for lesser players - not added any strength in depth. Apart from Forster but it now looks like Boruc wants out. And what's the point in getting premium prices for our players if you're going to spend £12 million on Shane Long and possibly another £12 million or more on Andros Townsend. So far we've spent £21 million on a strike force that looks like it will struggle to get 15 goals between them. At 27 and 29 that's not money we are going to get back again. As it is we desperately a good striker and a goal scoring right winger to have a chance of competing this season. Unless something changes dramatically it's going to a long, hard and depressing season. Our only saving grace might be that Crystal Palace, QPR and Burnley are actually worse than we are.
