Fraser Forster Joins on 4 Year Deal - Official

You have no idea how long any of these deals have taken, Liverpool could have been after Lovren since Christmas for all you know. The fact that we have waited until players were sold before signing a replacement is neither foolish, shocking nor unique to Saints.

I still think we are a CB, striker and creative midfielder away from the squad we need but we haven't exactly been idle in signing players.

Back on topic - This is an excellent signing. We now look good in an area we badly lacked depth last season. Boruc and Forster will push each other very hard for that #1 spot.

I bow to your self proclaimed genius

If there are minor faults or not in Forster's game, he'll be first choice from now on, and so it'll be the bench for Boruc.....but for how much longer?.

Artur still covets the Polish national spot and is (argueably) still the best number one the Poles have. With one year on his contract.....will he move and get regular games somewhere else?

Meanwhile, Fraser is the man ! .....the only real question is WHO will be our no.2 ...if Artur goes?. KD's contract isn't forever, and neither Gazzaniga or Cropper have set the world alight in their U21 Matches.

** NOTE: the last time Saints signed an English goalie (yes it has happened) it was Peter Shilton in Aug 1982, but he had a horrific start when an experimental Saints defence conceded 18 goals and were bottom after the first 7 games, before some defence - strengthening measures were taken after which things steadied up and Shilts. kept 34 clean sheets in his seasons 2 and 3 at SFC.

5 years ..and 49 England caps later, Shilton had racked up 242 club games and rarely played a bad one in all that time .

Good news Artur needs to know he is not a shoe in for the number one spot plus we now have two decent keepers something we lacked last season. A lot of talk of who is going to be first choice keeper but maybe Ronald could just take a leaf out of Man City's book

Pellegrini must decide who to play in Sunday’s Community Shield against Arsenal at Wembley after acknowledging that he now has ‘two No 1 goalkeepers’.

Great signing. Shame he can't be no 1 because our third choice keeper who won't even play is the current owner.

After everything he has done for the club I wouldn't deny him a thing. If you watch some of the pre season vids behind the scenes he has been the glue that has held the team together. He is the one who would be able to turn Morgan around. I have endless time for KD

Just not in goal after watching the Brighton game

I agree with that, if you piece together all the media bits you can get an impression of how key he is behind the scenes, comes across as a top bloke.

This is the strongest we have looked in the glovesman department for some time. Two international goalkeepers to battle it out for the number one spot. Forster is a good age too so hopefully can be our number one for a long time.

I remember Delldays banging on about how only the top, top teams have two international goalies in their squad and it was stupid to expect us to do the same.

Great news to wake up to, although I felt the damage is already done it's certainly helping the repair process! Considering his age, ability and that he's an international player the fee isn't that high. Let's keep what momentum we have and go get a quality striker in!

Do we think that maybe, with the arrival of FF specifically, SFC will be seen as a good bet for incoming players who may otherwise have dismissed us?

He's not going to fire up foreign players who are considering a move. Not many goalkeepers would, to be honest.

But now we've brought five players in (and spent some decent money in doing so) I think people should understand that we are in business and looking to compete.

But, but asset strip. 'Fat Kat' is pocketing all the cash etc.

Good luck to you and Fraser for the season. He did well for us and played a part in some massive wins over the past few years. I'm still not convinced he's better than Artur but you definitely have two excellent keepers on your hands.

If you're ever feeling ****e about your 'asset stripping', have a look at us. Absolutely no debt, infact we have about £20m in the bank, and our best players continue to leave with absolutely no investment. Forster has been replaced with Craig Gordon, an admittedly excellent goalkeeper but he hasn't played in years.

I'm sure you will eventually bring in some more top talent to replace the guys who have left. I seen you were linked with Javier Hernandez, I think he would be a fantastic signing.

Cheers Mulgrew. Looking forward to seeing Boruc and Forster battle it out to play. The reason for Celtic's downgrading is because you dont have any serious opposition since Rangers demise. You'll still win the league this year with a weak (and cheap) side - and the board know that.

They still take £600 for my season ticket and £100 for the three group games though. I'd like to know where the money is going.

Calling Batman - are we now a top, top team or will we just struggle for 17th?

All the pundits in the Sunday Times seem to have us as a struggling team this season, partly because we have had to make too many changes. My view is with 4 more players we'll be OK, mid table - probably bottom half... 12th? As we stand now? 14-16th? Possibly relegation. But it appears more are coming... so lets make a call on 1 Sep when we see what the Board have secured for Koeman.

I guess to pay the wages, and thats not meant flippantly. Celtic get far more than Saints in gate money, but the tv money in the PL is just stupidly big, it warps everything. This year we'll get c£16m from attendances but another £80m in tv cash. I guess Celtic will get double that £16m through the gate but only a fraction of the tv income.

Really good post especially when taken in conjunction with Rodwell's recent comments. Yes, this won't attract the top foreign players but we will become increasingly attractive to young talented UK players who want to play and develop. Someone like Sinclair is a good example of where a move to a club like ours should have been his next step.

This is a small chink of light in the mess that is the PL but until players and agents readjust their mindless nothing much will happen. A player and his agent will still probably see earning 100K a week and only getting a run out in the League Cup as a better option than 50k and playing every week. And who can really blame them??? What would we do?

Doesn't really make sense, but does sound like a bit of a strop.

I just asked my Polish mate to check Artur's TL and tell me what he's saying.

KaroLegiaFan said to him, as someone who has played for Celtic and Legia - he could try to be the authority on this and help between the two.

Artur replied saying, do you think my opinion/authority matters more to them (Celtic) than the £10m (reference to the prize money)

Basically.
