washsaint Posted 17 July, 2014 Share Posted 17 July, 2014 Only kidding (mainly). Good couple of run outs for the squad and getting the new signings some playing time. Very encouraged by how it looks (albeit based on short highlights) Reed and McQueen are shaping up for the season ahead. 3 or 4 more high quality signings (assuming we lose Lovren) and we will be well positioned to battle for that 6th - 8th spot this year methinks. Looking forward to the next friendlies and see how the style of play changes from the Pochettino era.
itchen_dan Posted 17 July, 2014 Share Posted 17 July, 2014 To be honest, you can see the style change almost immediately. An instantly recognisable 4-3-3 in both games, lots of wing play and crossing in the training videos and balls down the flanks and crosses into the box going on the highlights from the other night. Very exciting way of play, except I feel we need another 1 or 2 proper wingmen for competition and options.

Poor old Rickie leaving at just the wrong time* reckon he would have thrived on that sort of game think he struggled a bit with mopos style which made him less effective last season. *With usual caveats he was past it, wanted to go to his spiritual home etc etc
The9 Posted 17 July, 2014 Share Posted 17 July, 2014 Our entire style under Pochettino suited Lambert, press high up, win the ball near the opposing goal, hardly any running required - he profited hugely at first, THEN he lost the ability to be in the right place and any remaining sharpness, and had to drop deeper which was why he scored fewer and Rodriguez who was running beyond him scored more. Can't imagine for a second he'd be suited to a 4-3-3 where central creativity will be required.
