Saints Pre Season Thread

A race can be defined as "a group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution".

Not sure why you're calling me out on this by the way.

Just checking. That definition applies to anybody and everybody in the world so if you go looking for racism you'll find it everywhere.

Well of course. Describing our squad as an "illegal European immigrant team" is as racist as describing them as an illegal African or Pakistani immigrant team. It's abhorrent to substantially criticise something on the basis of their race.

Last year only 10,000 turned up at St Mary's for the final big pre season game. Hope tomorrow we have half that number to send out a strong message the supporters aren't fools and expect the club pull their finger out. The squad is beginning to look like the remnants of an illegal European immigrant team.

Christ, you post some utter tosh these days. You have officially transitioned to clueless old sod to vile miserable idiot.

As you wish, but if they weren't European they wouldn't be immigrants. Unnecessary though, I'll grant you.

(No pedantry about the rest of the world please)

I'll be surprised if it's over 10k.

Southampton FC@SouthamptonFC

With almost 14,000 tickets sold, extra blocks will open for tomorrow’s friendly with @bayer04fussball and #SaintsFC fans can buy on the day.

Goes to show what sensible friendly ticket prices can do. With a decent walk-up on the day it should be a very healthy crowd.

I might just give it a whirl.....undecided thus far.

Rarely get a weekend free....means I have to get the train from Portsmouth Harbour....so can't wear my shirt.

5pm kick off is crap.

Meh....bollix...I'm in.

Rah! I shall be there; unfortunately I'll have to meet my friends in the pub beforehand to pick up my ticket, but we all have to make sacrifices..

Could be a good walk up with the weather looking set fair: it makes a big difference to the atmosphere having a decent crowd, and put's Brighton's to shame.

Take the medication.

I have no more words.

Pleased to see healthy ticket sales, and with good weather and prices I reckon there will be a big walk up taking us towards 18k.

Word of warning for anyone on the train, the skates are away to Exeter with over 1000 travelling. Our late kick off means they'll be passing back through Southampton central about an hour after our game finishes. (I remember that happening before when we played Man City on a Saturday evening)

As I normally get the train to Saints matches from the Brighton direction I often come across Pompey fans on the way home after their matches in Bath or Forest Green or whatever obscure place they've been to. For some reason they always seem fatter than the equivalent Saints fans I see on the train on the way to St. Marys. Maybe it's the cans of lager..

Definition: An "illegal European immigrant " is what American define as Europeans who live in the States illegally. It has nothing to do with racism or sectorism. I guess those ill informed posters who spout their venom have never heard of Sting.

U21s beating QPR 2-1 at the moment... can someone explain this to me? Billy Sharp scored the first goal - he's 28. Gazzaniga's in goal - 22. I assume I've missed some rule about a certain number of over 21s being allowed to play?

Billy Sharp makes it 3-1 Saints in our U21's/Development?!?! squad. Wonder what he will do this year. Seems to be a hard working decent player and person, but there isn't a place for him on our team with our current placing and trajectory. Hope he gets a move.

We've offered him a free move, if a Championship team doesn't snap him up I will be incredibly surprised.

Hmmm, nice sunny day. Footie with a hunch of alsorts making multiple subs or crabbing with the kids and a beer down mudeford quay. Crabbing wins it then.

I'll be down there myself later at the chippy. Let's hope they don't run out of chips this week!

Can have three players over the age of 21 as it is a replacement for the old ressie leagues - so expect to see fringe players short of game time or those recovering from long-term injury in need of match fitness.

Not sure if the designated three includes keepers ... where is MLG when you need him? ;)

In the under 21 Premier League you can have 3 overage outfield player, plus the keeper can be an overage player.

In any case, it was a friendly today and the clubs can come to whatever agreement they want about who plays.
