INGS a possibility?

People need to understand the situation with Ings has been going on for well over a month now. I sat in a meeting over a month ago when it was divulged that Ings at that point had two offers on the table, one from Liverpool and one from Saints. He obviously had decisions to make. What has made it harder for him is a very personal family matter that is making it difficult for him to decide where his future lies. The very personal family matter lies in Southampton where someone has come back recently and settled here. He is extremely close to this family member and if people understood whats going on there they would understand why he is having a hard time working out what to do. I have had no update since that meeting i was lucky enough to sit in and don't know what the current situation is.....but that is it for whats its worth as of just over a month ago.

So he wants to go to Liverpool for his career, but doesn't want to be so far from this family member (sibling returning home perhaps).

very astute of you sir!.....and for reasons which should be obvious i will not divulge why just a sibling returning home should have such a big impact! All i can say is the lad is between a rock and a hard place.

Ings seems to be a great bloke, helping out with very ill children and being there for them, I think this may be related but that's immaterial. I'm assuming the offers on the table have a shelf life? Liverpool definitely won't wait around all day, but then again they might be waiting for us to sign him before they then sign him from us before the end of the window for double the price.

Well if he is actually a saints fan maybe he should realise we need him now and he should step up to that. Otherwise he can **** off to liverpool with the rest of them and prove he's not actually a saints fan at all, just another player that claims to support a club.

Play for Liverpool: chance of medals, Europe and earn £60k per week

Or

Play for Southampton: earn £20-30k, get sold when value is high enough

Tough choice

This thread depresses me.

It's been kicking around for fecking ages and it's the only one about a player joining saints.

It's like seeing the same second hand mondeo in the forecourt as you walk to work every day.

An improvement on what you have, not that exciting...but you still can't get it.

Unless you're a genuine fan in which case it's a chance to rescue the club you love. Naive? Maybe, but i still hold out hope that somewhere there's a football with some ****ing morals.

Im not convinced we have ever actually put a bid in for him.

I doubt signing Sordell and LJ means they need to balance books, their income has just shot up hugely and they havent exactly been spending fortunes.#

A sensible approach would be to see how he adapts and then try to get him for relatively low of contract compo next summer if he does well.

Certainly not worth (IMO) close to 10m when he is unproven in PL and out of contract next summer, plus also has a dubious injury record.

Except that signing for Liverpool and playing for them aren't the same thing. He could sign for Liverpool warm their bench and watch his career stagnate, or play week in week at a club he supports.

What can he buy with 80k a week that you can't buy with 25k a week?

A brand new Audi a7 every week for starters.

Agree with you especially after they interviewed Sean Dyche on Talksport just now. Not a single indication on him leaving Burnley and hoping he'd be back to his best form for the opening matches.

I can tell you that we've not placed a bid for him. This information came directly from one of our directors a couple of weeks ago. He told me that there were other targets and Ings wasn't even being considered at the time.

You need to get your ducks in a row with Barcelona Saint then Sidney. One says he had 2 offers including one from us and the other says no offer at all.

One of you 2 ITKs is then wrong. Then again it could be just wags at the club winding both of you up.

Ings wasnt sold during the window and hasnt signed a new contract. Can't help wondering whether he might be lining up a move to Saints on a (near) free next summer.

Can't say he's impressed me in the step up to the prem as so far, thinks he can just run at Premier League defenders and get through. I'll be nice though and give him some time to settle in and then make a proper opinion, not that anyone cares.

Looked quite threatening in his first game, but I admit I haven't seen the other two.

Rodriguez took a while to adjust too. I think he'd do well at a club like Saints.

Week before (And after Long) the transfer window closed. One of Ings (Very close ) family was convinced he would be a Southampton player by the end of the transfer window.

Yeah lets judge every player and every club on just 3 games like the media.

One thing I know is that basing your life decisions on the location, current or expected, of friends or family, however close, is madness. What if something makes them want to move elsewhere after you've just uprooted to be near them? You're bound together from that point on, and effectively tie the others down.

Maybe I thought the exact same as you and is to why I said: "I'll be nice though and give him some time to settle in and then make a proper opinion"

So don't do that tone with me Mr. or you'll be going to bed with no supper.

Bit of a reality check for Liverpool I think. Linked with the likes of Higuain, Lacazzette, Vieto etc.....but end up with Ings.

Good player, not denying that, wouldn't have said no to him here.....but he's not the sort of signing which is going to propel Liverpool back into contenders.

But this can't be true, a poster, is it Tom28, said he's definitely joining us and had a go at people for questioning it? Surely posters on a forum can't be wrong?

As an aside, be interesting to see how ings does for Liverpool who should create more chances for him, if Brendan decides to play him that is.
