16 million or 25 million, doesn't really matter to me unless it's filtered back into rebuilding the squad, IMO we shouldn't be selling anyone else until replacements are found

Still it could be worse we could be Blackpool :)

Cheers gump for giving us some stats on a player we have watched all season long. About as sophisticated as Liverpool's scouting department gets it would seem.

You been watching Kompany all season long?

I'm not assuming it has been confirmed, but I am assuming we will sell him without a replacement being lined up as there is no news to suggest otherwise. As said above, I'm happy to take some stick if that doesn't pan out like I expect it to.

Liverpool have already signed two of our best players. Are our new board that weak that they can't simply say to Liverpool 'we will confirm the Lovren deal once we have replacements brought in'? Do you think Liverpool would run off indignant shouting 'well you aren't having our money any more!'. They want our player and we've already seen how hollow their 'ultimatums' are.

I'd argue that the order that we do things does make a difference to who we can attract to the club. Why would top players want to join a club continually portrayed as one lacking in ambition and willingly flogging off its best assets? Important to build on positive momentum and PR, rather than continually trying to strengthen from a weakened position.

I don't think that we can " assume " anything - especially that the Board has suddenly woken up to the fact that Lovren wants to / is leaving.

According to Lovren himself, he told the Board he wanted a move back in May, so do we " assume " that they just ignored that outburst from a disgruntled player and forgotten about it ? - I think not !

If the scouting system is what we are led to believe and the media is telling the truth for once, we are " in " ...for Steven Caulker ...or Ron Vlaar ...or van Dijk from Celtic and goodness knows who else.

Ever since Cortese took over there has been a policy of keeping quiet until all the paperwork has been completed - which is a lot more than just the player signing on the dotted line.

...and I don't think anyone has changed that ruling, and it's obvious from various interviews that Les Reed keeps his cards close to his chest...and won't give anything away too soon.

..with all due respect to you are many others on this board ...why do you think the SFC Board need to inform everyone on a day-to-day basis ?

....I wouldn't until the ink was dry on the contract.. and it also weakens your own bargaining position ......by letting other clubs know that we have an additional £20 million in the kitty. Bad business.

If I had signed someone already, I'd say ......keep your mouth shut until we announce it ...(when it suits us) . Sell Lovren first (if thats the plan) and maybe pay only £10 millon for his replacement.

All this latest round of Lovren leaving over the past 24 hours is just another attempt by his agent to fool everyone into believing the deal is done.

There was a time when one could believe most of what was printed in the papers. Nowadays it's downright lies, deliberate deception.

I'm not sure you properly understood what I wrote.

I assume that we will sell Lovren to Liverpool and that when it is announced we will not have an immediate replacement lined up. That is based on my own reading of the football press, and once again, I am happy to be proved wrong. I am sure we have targets, and I am sure the recruitment department is trying for players, but I do not believe there is anything imminent in terms of replacing Lovren. I gave the example of Newcastle and the transfers of Janmaat/Debuchy to suggest that we could stage-manage the departure of players better.

We have been led to believe that the scouting network is brilliant and that top players and their agents were contacting the club desperate to join. Yet aside from Koeman's pull in the Eredivise helping to land Tadic and Pelle, we don't seem to have made much progress on landing domestic targets. I'd suggest that might be a result of the negative perception of the club that is continually being recycled in the media.

I've not said anything about the club keeping us updated on a day-to-day basis. All I have said is that we could agree to the Lovren transfer provisionally in private, but only confirm it publicly after we have signed adequate replacements. That would only ever work if things were kept under wrap, and the whole point of such an arrangement would be to ensure that clubs do not know that we have an extra £20m in the kitty. I'm not sure why you've used that point against me when it was almost precisely the reason I argued for getting in replacements before selling key players.

Not sure I really understood what you were saying in that last sentence. Surely selling Lovren first, without replacements already lined up, would preclude that very possibility of limiting our expenditure on transfers? Your erratic use of bold, quotation marks, and underlining don't really help I'm afraid!

If that is all we're accepting for Lovren (and I'd hope for at least a 25% sell on clause) then Koeman is beginning to sound like another Ralph Kruegar.

I have a huge mistrust for the quotes from Dutchmen, both in business, friendships and football. Marc Wotte was a prime example and Korman doesn't come across any different. How are we to believe when 5 minutes after saying we'll only sell for a huge feel, Lovren goes for a July Sales Price.

Dutch campers along the Lattes-Palavas highway been getting on your nerves again ART? Stupid little dutch kid ran into me on his bike when I was running down the path the other day. God I hate the Dutch, well the ones that invade our green and pleasant land every spring/summer/autumn anyway.

F365 Transfer Blog suggests Chelsea may be launching a late bid.

Please God yes! If he has to go then please let someone put the kibosh on Liverpool

Have to really really agree with this. Actually, where ever he goes, it is good for us to have a bidding war. When Vidic announced he was off last season, I thought it would be Utd who would come calling.

My head's already in Liverpool.

That may be so. No doubt his heart could be made to go to SW6 and then his head rejoin the rest of his body there.

Expect it's a negotiating ploy from Lovren, I'd love a little mini bidding war to push up the price though.

Word. You can always tell a deal is close when some club is out of no-where suddenly "rumoured" to be interest. I.e. like with Everton & Tadic.

Of course Chelsea have previous for this kind of thing, I remember Willian being all but confirmed as a Spurs player last summer only for Chelsea to come in last minute and hijack the deal.

Ploy or not hopefully it can edge the fee up a bit further.

If we are resigned to losing him, maybe us leaking it to bump Liverpool up a few £?

yeah I bet it's Ralph leaking the Chelsea story, I bet he's telling Lovren that we've had enquiries from Barcelona & Real Madrid & German National Team or whoever. Lovren will soon put the brakes on his liverpool head when he hears these latest Ralph bullshits! Might end up getting another year out of the greedy c*nt.

To be fair, Liverpool have sold their best player (and the reason they got top four last season) since then.

Part-ex him with Agger who seems unsure he wants to stay. His head is already in Southampton.......well maybe not quite yet.

Used to really like Liverpool. Now I hope they do a Spurs, post-Bale and have lots of in-fighting and no team spirit with all these incoming, edging Rodgers out of the door in so doing.

I hope not O.o

I like to think my glass is half-full rather than half-empty but I'm starting to become a little concerned that the 'outs' will not be offset by the 'ins' in terms of either quantity or quality. Hopefully there's plenty of activity going on behind the scenes (in a positive sense)!

Why not let another club do all the spade work, then come in at the 11th hour and offer exactly the same and a little bit more. Leave the wording as is in the about to be signed contract, change a few figures and club details and hey presto. Seems entirely sensible to let another club do all the hard work. Must save a fortune in lawyer's fees.

Rafa to return if Rodgers makes a muck of it?
