notnowcato Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Very disappointed with Dejan. Arguably the leagues best defender last season is showing his true colours. RoKo has forgotten more about being a world class defender than Dejan knows.
stevegrant Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Crook and co the Portsmouth based M & y news agency . Wow a big organisation indeed . Not a mention of what they do for saints but plenty on the blue few . So he is bound to be somewhat anti saints judging by his had the agency profile Yes, because that's the way news works. M&Y's sports journalists will predominantly focus on Saints because we are the only club on their "patch" with Premier League exposure. Despite being based in Portsmouth, pretty much the only work they'll get connected to them is match reports.
Jonnyboy Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Poch put on a fair bit of weight working for us didn't he!
stevegrant Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 What are the odds on selling him outside of the league, even if at a minor loss? A) To highlight the complete the tosh in the statement, 'my head is at Liverpool' (it's at the bank, mate), and perhaps more importantly, B) to prevent direct strengthening of opposition. This is my view as well, I'd deal with anybody outside the Premier League for £15m+, but refuse to deal with Liverpool even if they doubled their current offer. There was talk that CSKA Moscow were interested, not sure whether they'd be able to afford that sort of money for a transfer fee, but they'd certainly be able to do the wages and offer Champions League football every year, unlike Liverpool who will be in it this season and this season only.
pap Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Poch put on a fair bit of weight working for us didn't he! It's what happens when you live somewhere boring. I put on two stone while living in a 10K town in Northern Ireland.
CB Fry Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 But apparently according to the forum intelligentsia, it will inevitably be a weaker side than that which finished the season. It seems that nobody of equal quality can be found to replace Lallana, Lambert and Shaw, despite us receiving such inflated prices for them. Several of the brightest brains on the forum insist that anybody who believes that we could even start the season in a stronger position is a fool. However, they fail to take into account that we will also be bringing in replacements for the likes of Sharp, Fox Guly and Osvaldo, so that even by doing that, the likelihood is that the squad will be strengthened. Still trying to have that argument, I see. I am one of the most optimistic and supportive of the new regime but even I can see it is pretty obvious that the team that steps out in August will be weaker than the one that trooped off the pitch in May. Doesn't mean we can't do well, and it certainly doesn't need you painfully posturing to make a pitifully weak point. Can we buy buy a decent left back? Yes. Is our whole team/squad in day one of next season going to start weaker than the one that finished last season? 99.9% yes. Even if Tadic becomes player of the season, it's unlikely he is going to fly immediately.
DuncanRG Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 I'm getting well hacked off with mr crook . Are the star and mirror part of the same news group or is he just a cock that would sell his wife to get a story printed in one if the red tops . He works for a news agency in the South - they create stories independently and newspapers buy them. Think a regional version of Reuters or the Press Association. No shame in it whatsoever.
Jonnyboy Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 It's what happens when you live somewhere boring. I put on two stone while living in a 10K town in Northern Ireland. Well I'd suggest he didn't get out and make Southampton the rocking place it is. You only get what you give ;-)
pap Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Well I'd suggest he didn't get out and make Southampton the rocking place it is. You only get what you give ;-) I think you have a point with Poch. He spent 2m just to get out of Southampton. Could have organised a good few illegal raves on that money. NI is a bit different. Any "scandal" can lead to loss of vital components, such as kneecaps, etc. I decided that a boring life of being a fat bastard was for me.
Wes Tender Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Still trying to have that argument, I see. Even if Tadic becomes player of the season, it's unlikely he is going to fly immediately. I will stand by my opinion and recognise your right to differ. We'll have to wait and see. But I agree entitirely with you that these players are leaving purely for reasons of personal greed and that it is rather naive for some to believe that the poor dears are going just because they have been deprived of their dream of playing European football with us since Cortese left.
the saint in winchester Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Trialling my new "photo-lip-reading" routines* * routines do not actually exist. It's all a lark, like. As DL says 'my head is already at Liverpool' suggest we charge them £20M for his head and another £10M for the rest of him.
Batman Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 great article in the Echo http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11323238.COMMENT__Lovren_not_fit_to_lace_his_new_boss__boots/?ref=mac

Viking Warrior Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 I agree a very good balanced article from Simon carter and in the echo to . Mr crook should take note about balanced reporting . I'm looking forward to the next ten days as our new signing are revealed . The futures bright the futures red white and orange
DT Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Players love playing at World Cups. Not because of the cup, or pride, but because of how much more money they can get by moving when they get home from them. Bye Lovren you mercenary twonk.
buctootim Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 great article in the Echo http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11323238.COMMENT__Lovren_not_fit_to_lace_his_new_boss__boots/?ref=mac Excellent article. Sounds like the Echo is back to doing what a good local paper should do - reporting and analysing issues whilst being broadly supportive of the club.
Killers Knee Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Isn't Ralph the chairman known as a leadership authority? Hasn't he published a book on leadership? where is the club's leadership? He's busy leading us.
ericofarabia Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Second article by Simon Carter in a week that I thought was pretty spot on. At last, somebody at The Echo standing up for the club, rather than blaming the club!! Very knowledgeable (sp?) chap, used to love his articles in The Pink about life at clubs in the lower leagues. Isn't Exeter his team?
saint1977 Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Sell Lovren for £20m and re-invest that in buying Caulker and if there's enough left, bid for Mangan or another CB. We needed two anyway so that we don't have to rely on Jos next season (great lad but miles out of his depth at PL level) and selling Lovren pays for it. The competition will keep Fonte on his toes and if one of those two proves a success and is sold on, Jack Stephens may then be ready. Lovren is a very good CB but not in Michael Svensson's league pre-knee injury so not too sad to see him go if he is this much of a rotten and disruptive apple. Rumour was that he caused a lot of disruption when not selected at Lyon so has previous. It'll take time for the new CB relationships to settle in but better to get that position sorted out quickly and an intensive pre-season schedule to enable that to happen. The moral part of my brain says 'let Lovren rot in the U21s for 6 months' but ultimately I'd rather we strengthened a weak position from last season with 2 new faces, one of which we needed to bring in anyway.
angelman Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 He's never going to play again for us, so it's very simple with, to me, 3 options.... 1) Keep hold of him and hold him to his contract, but that is cutting your nose off to spite your face. If the owner feels that a £20m stance is worth taking, then that is her choice. Personally, while we would be entitled to, it would make us look as bad as him, and £20m is £20m 2) Sell to Liverpool and make it hard and hold out for the max and for as long as possible. Me, I would sell him to them on August 17th at the earliest. 3) Do a quick sale to someone else (and not Spurs) even if it means not getting the max.

MarkSFC Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 anyone know how close Turnbull is to first team squad?
Saint_clark Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 'Got tingles last time i was at anfield and heard you'll never walk alone' Just read this quote, f*ck off you c*nts, why are so many of these players who we thought were decent people already planning their next move when the season had barely begun?
Jack Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 **** him. I'd like to see him given the maximum fine possible by the club, then made to train with the reserves until he comes up with a convincing apology to the club and fans, and then can go about trying to regain a spot in the starting XI. We need to make an example of him, and show everyone, most importantly the players and any club that thinks they can get our players to force a move in this way, that we won't be held to ransom.
RobM Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 **** him. We need to make an example of him, and show everyone, most importantly the players and any club that thinks they can get our players to force a move in this way, that we won't be held to ransom. I really, really wish this would happen. We'll still be able to sell him for more than we paid come January, so let him rot in the reserves for now and send a message to the rest of the squad that they're supposed to be professionals. If somebody wants to move, they should put in a transfer request, have honest conversations in private and show some respect and professionalism in the meantime. If they don't and decide act the **** like Lovren has, they can go and spend some time training with the young players who are clearly more hungry and determined. Otherwise you sent a precedent that this is OK and will go unpunished.
St.Patrik Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 This should be the official Lovren to Pool song : )

derry Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 He shouldn't need to strike. Tell him and Liverpool £25m and he can go. Otherwise he has played his last game for Southampton and don't come to Staplewood unless called in. He will be informed in due course what is happening. If he doesn't go to Liverpool he will be loaned outside the Premier League, a replacement is being brought in. If he changes his mind in due course and wants to be part of the club let us know. It will be considered if the squad of 25 isn't finalised.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 (edited) Apparently Dejan overheard Les Reed saying we need a new striker but misunderstood what he meant... Edited 7 July, 2014 by Ivan Katalinic's 'tache
Whitey Grandad Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 I'm not going to be too depressed about losing a CB we signed for 8m a year ago for 20m+. He was excellent, but in partnership with Fonte. Partnerships are funny things, you just never know which will work and how a player will do elsewhere. Lovren had a few dodgy games too. Enough to show that you'd be hopeful of signing 1 or 2 CBs with the money and being okay. Yeah, this, really.
Give it to Ron Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 anyone know how close Turnbull is to first team squad? From the few games I have seen of him (4 or 5) I would say as a centre half - never - but as a marauding defensive midfielder in the Championship possibly.
Coldridge Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 As of yesterday, he is back in Southampton by the way. I wonder why..
ART Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Anyone seen the tweet Le tiss has retweeted of an article from Lovren (pre WC) that he is happy at Saints. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/9317293/transfer-news-dejan-lovren-insists-he-is-happy-at-southampton In the end, all this is going to be a case of Lovren's words were taken out of context. Surely most people would be pi ss ed off with bosses leaving, no indication of who's in charge or what's going on. There was talk that Katharina was going to sell and when Ralph was appointed he hardly inspired football minded people including our players. Lovren's returned from the World Cup, pi ss ed off they didn't do so well. He's on vacation, doesn't know what's going on, drinking himself into oblivion every day and shouting his mouth of in the company of mates who tell him Liverpool are after him. Who wouldn't be pi ss ed off? Has anyone from the club, Reed, Koeman contacted him since he made his statements. I'm sure they have and what he said was made 2 weeks ago when Ads and Luke left. I think, like similar episodes in the past with players said to be wanting to leave, we don't have the whole story. If, in fact, he does want to go to Liverpool, I believe the club should block it at all costs and sell him overseas. Send him back to where he came as long as some club is willing to pay.
ART Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 As of yesterday, he is back in Southampton by the way. I wonder why.. WHO IS HE? You don't quote anyone, and, you, like many are just too lazy to write the name you're referring to.
positivepete Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 Just back from a Rio. Chatting with Robbie Savage in the airport and it crossed my mind to ask him his opinion of players forcing a move, but I thought better of it with his past history of forcing a move from Birmingham to Blackburn! Just kept the conversation to the World Cup, he enjoyed the Holland vs Australia match the most. No doubt someone will ask him on air next season, he is usually pretty clear on his stance on most subjects, and generally states the view that players only look after themselves, and that players are not worried by changes at the club as long as they are getting paid and playing.
Goatboy Posted 7 July, 2014 Posted 7 July, 2014 As of yesterday, he is back in Southampton by the way. I wonder why.. Haircut?
