No idea, but Pellè has added '#19' to his account, which is also the number he was given when he signed for Koeman at Feyenoord.

What's ossie going to have lol

Not picking on you specifically, but I see more and more people writing 'lol' at the end of short sentences now, almost as if it's punctuation.

Did you actually laugh out loud as you typed your own question?

Is this a Premier League deadline ?

Premier League rules last season only say "before the season commences" for squad numbers.

More like will he have one at all?

Also, will sharp have 11 still?

He wasn't officially allocated a number last year at all, though "coincidentally" we also didn't have a number 11.

Have you ever made a post that makes any sense?

Isn't it time for your weekly waffle thread?

Interesting (well a little) to see that players generally wore last season's squad number against Bournemoth last night and therefore interesting to note what the new signings wore (new signings and numbers that differed from last season in bold):

1st half team

31 Artur Boruc

2 Nathaniel Clyne

6 José Fonte

3 Maya Yoshida

30 Matt Targett

8 Steven Davis

10 Gastón Ramírez

16 James Ward-Prowse

11 Dušan Tadić

19 Graziano Pellè

27 Lloyd Isgrove

Used subs

26 Jos Hooiveld

15 Jack Stephens

18 Jack Cork

28 Harry Reed

17 Sam McQueen

24 Emmanuel Mayuka

7 Sam Gallagher

Unused subs - not sure what number they were allocated last night

Kelvin Davis (1 presumably)

Jason McCarthy (32? - last season's number)

Jake Flannigan

Billy Sharp

"Ill"

5 Dejan Lovren

22 Calum Chambers

Genuinely injured

9 Jay Rodriguez

Absent

25 Paulo Gazzaniga

4 Morgan Schneiderlin (probably developing a bit of a sniffle)

12 Victor Wanyama

17 Dani Osvaldo

Anyone know when the official squad numbers are being announced?

It will be interesting to see who gets the coveted number 7 shirt after SRL's exit.

Don't think we need to worry about a name for the 7th shirt just yet.

I see that the OS first team squad page has been updated following Lovren's departure to omit last season's squad numbers and to promote a number of the development squad (Cropper, Stephens, Targett, Isgrove, McQueen). Sharp also added. Can't quite work out the criteria that has been used to order them - it's sort of longest serving to most recent addition. But not entirely!

They always remove the previous season's numbers on the squad page before the new ones, especially if there are shirts on sale, they don't want people getting the wrong number on because "the website says..." , it's just crappy customer service. Mind you, so is all the sizes being completely wrong and the Megastore not having the most popular size (XXL)on Saturday because it isn't usually the most popular size...

Based on last two friendlies I would expect to see something like the following announced:

1 Kelvin Davis

2 Nathaniel Clyne

3 Maya Yoshida

4 Morgan Schneiderlin

6 José Fonte

7 Sam Gallagher or new signing

8 Steven Davis

9 Jay Rodriguez

10 Gastón Ramírez

11 Dušan Tadić

12 Victor Wanyama

14 Jake Flannigan

15 Jack Stephens

16 James Ward-Prlowse

17 Sam McQueen

18 Jack Cork

19 Graziano Pellè

20 Billy Sharp

23 Ryan Bertrand

24 Emmanuel Mayuka

25 Paulo Gazzaniga

26 Jos Hooiveld

27 Lloyd Isgrove

28 Harry Reed

30 Matt Targett

31 Artur Boruc

32 Jason McCarthy

With perhaps the rest of the development squad taking up the thirties.

New signings 5, 7 or 29, 13, 21, 22

Normally released around about now aren't they? Noticed in the b'mouth and brighton games most of the players had the same as last season, and I would agree with most of that list above.

Will be interesting to see if anyone takes the number 7 (surely won't be Gallagher) and the 5 (new CB signing most likely)

slighty off topic but can anyone remember any outfield player wearing the No# 1 shirt i recall Ardiles doing so for Argentina some years back

I believe Edgar Davids did for Barnet not too long ago...

I would deffo re-organise by price-tag, it would give clarity to fans & buying clubs. I.e. Tadic can take Lallana's £20m shirt and maybe give Lambert's £7m shirt to Reed? Some players will also have to change i.e. Boruc will be overvalued at £31m and we're never gonna get £24m for Mayuka

Would be a bit ridiculous to have a third choice keeper as no 1.

Likewise Gallagher as 7.

No reason Davis shouldn't keep 1, can't see anyone currently in the squad taking 7.

Simon Vukcevic of Partizan Belgrade

Plus Ossie Ardiles for Argentina as already mentioned in 1982 World Cup

And Ruud Geels in 1974 for Holland.

Oh, and there's this, but unfortunately Blackstock isn't wearing the number 1 as he took over from Bialkowski who was 28, and has a blank shirt on.

Also, by Prem rules, the squad numbers don't have to be announced until the first game of the season (there's no link between squad numbers and 25-man squad lists) but obviously it makes sense to release the numbers in time for fans to put them on their shirts.

Seeing as the away kit is out on 8/8/14, I'd expect the club to confirm them the day before.

And FWIW I think only these ones are "likely".

1 Kelvin Davis

2 Nathaniel Clyne

3 Maya Yoshida

4 Morgan Schneiderlin

5

6 José Fonte

7

8 Steven Davis

9 Jay Rodriguez

10 Gastón Ramírez

11 Dušan Tadić

12 Victor Wanyama

13

14

15 Jack Stephens

16 James Ward-Prlowse

17

18 Jack Cork

19 Graziano Pellè

20

21

22

23 Ryan Bertrand

24 Emmanuel Mayuka

25 Paulo Gazzaniga

26 Jos Hooiveld

27 Lloyd Isgrove

28

29

30 Matt Targett

31 Artur Boruc

32

Harrison Reed (14?)

Jake Flannigan (?)

Sam McQueen (21?)

Billy Sharp (20?)

Jason McCarthy (?)

Sam Gallagher (17?)
