Is Fonte off now?

This tide of disgruntled players is getting very depressing and needs to be nipped by the announcement of some key players coming in. There's only so much joy a picture of Sammy Lee smiling can generate.

Where does it say Fonte is 'disgruntled'?

Why is his contract not sorted? Just bizarre.

He may have refused the club's offer.

The fact that his deal hasn't been extended doesn't mean that the club haven't tried to extend it.

There are a number of possibilities, none of which we are privvy to. Why does that make it "bizarre?"

Sorry but whatever your outlook it is kind of bizarre that Cork and Fonte havent signed new contracts. Both have suggested they want to stay and both are good players and no trouble, who wouldnt be asking for the earth.

Is it really "bizarre" though? We have no idea what is going on behind the scenes so why assume that it is "bizarre?" Why dont you wait and see what transpires and then make a comment on what you know, not what you dont know.?You are just having a dig at the Board again.

Agree completely. With all the departures you'd think tying down two important players from last season would be a priority.

A we were able to get big fees due to long contracts

B Keeping happy and rewarding those who gave done well would be nice, rather than making them have to consider somewhere where they are wanted.

Precisely it makes no footballing or commercial sense to keep Cork and Fonte dangling on what is now less than 12 months of their contracts. We have lost Lambert, Shaw and Lallana with Lovren and Morgan highly likely to follow whether we like it or not , with Jay Rod out till November. Our best team in 20 or so years is being decimated. The more new faces we throw at this the less chance we have of making it a success. We need to build around the core of what we have left and that core needs to be strong and focused on he job in hand rather than being messed around on their contracts.

To be honest he may as well go if Lovren goes. He's half the player without Lovren.

Nah, you're kind of half right. Fonte was better with Lovren, but that's not due to Lovren specifically. Fonte has enough about him to raise his game with whatever partner providing that partner is a PL class defender (i.e. a primarily left-footed ball player) that suits Fonte's game...it could be anyone that meets that spec.
