Colinjb Posted 11 July, 2014 Share Posted 11 July, 2014 Morgan. Give him a substantial pay raise, the arm band and a massive vote of confidence. S. Davis as a second choice.

EBS1980 Posted 11 July, 2014 Share Posted 11 July, 2014 If Lovren comes out and says sorry I think he would make a great captain and leader on the pitch.

DuncanRG Posted 11 July, 2014 Share Posted 11 July, 2014 Morgan if that's what it takes to keep him here, but Fonte to me seems a more natural leader. Steve Davis is (as far as I know) the only first team player with much experience as a captain but giving it to him would depend entirely on how secure his spot in the team is. He excelled under Pochettino but Koeman might see his role differently. Lovren looked like a captain in waiting last season, but that obviously isn't happening now and was unlikely anyway as he's relatively new to the club. I think it's a real shame that we never got to see Rickie Lambert lead us for a season.

Which is on the face of it madness when he is currently at the peak of his professional standing. However, I stand by my feeling. He peaked with us and now will enjoy a brief Indian summer before his journeyman joints succumb to the excesses he indulged in during the early part of his career. He is easily worth 4m to Liverpool, but not a Captain. He is still absolutely my favourite professional footballer... Yet he is at his apex. Only one way to go. KingdomCome Posted 11 July, 2014 Share Posted 11 July, 2014 Koeman talked about speaking to the experienced and important players during his press conference. Mentioned Fonte and Davis. Presume from that that one of them will get the captaincy.

Oh yeah, I don't mean that if he'd stayed we would or should have made him captain, just that it would have been good to see it at some point during his time with us. Professor Posted 11 July, 2014 Share Posted 11 July, 2014 Interesting that Koeman mentioned Steven Davis as a player he had spoken to in order to assess the mood in the dressing room. If Koeman sees him as being influential in the squad and someone he can work through, Davis must be a strong candidate for the captaincy.

Saint_clark Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 To be honest I'd want it to be someone that didn't hint at (or outright ask for) a move away this summer. With that in mind I've gone for Davis.
davefizzy14 Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 Morgan. But from listening to RK, Davis and Fonte are big influences within the squad so I'd be happy with any.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 Bit to early for this poll IMHO but what the --ck voted for The Scheid Indeed, 51% of you have voted for a player who won't be there next season. It doesn't matter what Reed or Koeman say, he's as good as gone.
sadoldgit Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 Fonte isnt good enough IMO and may not be a guaranteed starter. Spiderman or Davis for me.
Saint IQ Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 Fonte, Davis and Morgan are brilliant options to have as first team captain. All more suited to the role than Lallana. I picked Morgan simply because if he stays he is our best player and will be the first name on the team sheet if fit.

Depending of course on who comes in, or leaves.
Wurzel Posted 12 July, 2014 Share Posted 12 July, 2014 Gone for Davis. Would have picked Morgan but don't think he's the sort that would want it, just seems to quietly get on with his own game.
