skintsaint Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 To be honest, if we signed AL for 25m I would be annoyed as I don't think he is worth that. BUT he was an important cog of our team so just hope we can fill the void left by his departure. Good luck to him at LFC...he will need it. Their fans can turn on players quick enough especially when big purchases.

From what I've read some already are and most can't work out where he will play as they think the current options are well ahead of him. It's sad it has ended like this it would have been nice to see Adam move on without the bike and vitriol but it wasn't to be fingers crossed we don't spunk the money on garbage!
Wiggles31 Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Fair play and good luck. The way everyone has turned on him is OTT. He has been key to our success and I wish him well.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 FOOK YOU 14 years that are now forgettable thanks to your disgraceful exit from Saints FC. Fook you Lallana for your badge kissing insincerity - you could have had a place in our hearts. Clattenburg was right - Saints FC supporters.
Edmonton Saint Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 FOOK YOU 14 years that are now forgettable thanks to your disgraceful exit from Saints FC. Fook you Lallana for your badge kissing insincerity - you could have had a place in our hearts. Clattenburg was right - Saints FC supporters. Perhaps we should have a mini fund raising drive and put our own advert in the Echo, So we can tell Mr Lallana what we really think of him?
Viking Warrior Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 SO16 saint are you pleased with Adams echo article ? I think it was you that gave us the nod it was coming ?
Saint Charlie Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 What a waste of a full page advert. Might as well have been half the page with Selco or Tradepoint on the other half. Lambert's note was so much better and more genuine. Lets just move on.
stu0x Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 He has however tainted his saintly image, I get him leaving completely. But the fact he kisses the badge, signs a five year deal and pledges his future barely a year ago and then to be found forcing a move, signing another shirt and saying things like he has always wished to play for them is frankly insulting to me as a Saint. Surely we deserve more respect. How much has the club has changed in that year? Maybe Lallana thinks the club, the vision, the ambition that he bought into when he signed that deal doesn't exist any more? Whatever the arguable pros and cons of the Cortese/Pochettino regime vs the Liebherr/Krueger/etc one (I won't include Koeman as he's barely started), what can't be argued is that the two are like chalk and cheese. If you have a look at this very forum it's full of posters who aren't convinced by our new owner and think the recent changes are a major contributing factor to us losing our best players this summer. So maybe that's not so far from the truth? Maybe Adam was a card carrying member of the Cortese plan, and now it's been well and truly ripped to pieces he doesn't see the point in staying. Or alternatively, how much has his life changed in the last year? He's gone from a bright spark in an unfancied recently promoted team (which was bottom of the league for about 3 months) to an England international, team of the year, and playing for the 'hipsters choice' Premier League team. Perhaps more importantly, his personal life has changed as well. Is it a real surprise that the things he thought were most important to him a year ago aren't necessarily the same now? I know that the things I thought were important before having my son very quickly became less so afterwards. At the end of the day, Adam Lallana is not a Saints fan. He's an employee. Of course the thing most important to him are the terms of that employment. If everyone on here can honestly say they've never looked for a new job whilst at their old one, or never towed the company line in public in order to improve their own standing, or never told a new employer how much you've been looking forward to working with them, then you can probably cast the first stone. If not, it's probably more than a bit hypocritical. Funny thing though... If he's so overrated and average, and such a c-unit, why is everyone getting so upset at him going?
angelman Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Fair play and good luck. The way everyone has turned on him is OTT. He has been key to our success and I wish him well. Has he been key? I think people's judgement is being slightly clouded by his performance last season, which was bloody good. Before last season though, he was good but not that good (hence why he was delighted to sign a 5 year contract).
ant Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 So I was going on what you guys were saying last night and threw this together: But now I'm thinking something like this may be a little more appropriate: Can replace my name with 'Saints Fans', I just didn't want some toerag nicking my work and pasting it all over Twitter.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Frankly I'm concerned about some of the comment on this thread, the lad had an opportunity to move on upwards and he wanted to take it. The club didn't want to lose him too cheaply and made it a bit difficult so it got into a guerilla warfare situation apparently. At the end of the day the lad got his move and the club were handsomely rewarded end of story. There is no need for the vitriol, the hatred, the leaked derogatory information or anything else.

OldNick Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 i expect he thinks the less words on a full page advert the cheaper it will cost him.At the end of the day he can flick his fingers at us as he will be pocketing 80k a week I suppose
FarehamRed Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 So he paid for a full page ad which consisted of... A picture of himself Some words about himself. What an ego trip.
corky morris Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 As I said IMHO he lacks integrity. We all move on.

Accept your point but disagree. Though some of the comments, perhaps my own included, have been a tad harsh in the immediate aftermath I honestly believe this has been a d**k move by Adam. Putting aside all that wanting to leave despite all that had gone before; pledges, captaincy, support from the club etc. We proved with Shaw we would let players talk to other clubs IF our valuation was met. When we told Utd to match our valuation or sod off he didn't publicly grumble. Low and behold Utd realised if they wanted him they would have to come closer to our valuation ...they did, he left. No hard feelings. Liverpool were playing hard ball, can't blame them. Had AL had kept things quiet the board could have held out for a better fee, could have shook hands and Adam could have left us, despite a touch of bitterness about losing him, as a saints legend and wish our respect.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Most of the posts on here are so hypercritical, are people seriously suggesting that if someone came along and offered to treble your wages, maybe even more, you'd tell them to do one because you wanna be loyal to where you work?? Pull the other one! Stop being so bitter and move on, you all sound pathetic. But for this your services need to be highly desireable which isn't really the case for many.

Thing is Upwey what we really know about any of these situations is diddly squat, it's all heresay from papers,taxi-drivers and leakers that the club obviously encourange to put their side of things across. If what was being leaked didn't please them then I assume they'd put a stop to it as they have in the past. We do not really know what the current situation of the club is, we know what they say but even then it's often confused and subsequent actions do not really confirm what has been said. I personally think the club is in a shambolic state, the players know that and are determined to pursue their careers with clubs where they have a chance of winning major competitions. That's just my opinion though and nothing that I've seen from the club since last October proves otherwise.

angelman Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Cleaner, I am afraid you are slightly wrong. AL came out with some ill advised comments that were aimed to please his new club while dissing his old one. I do think that this has all been compounded by the press coverage, which has basically all turned out to be true. The use of the press by certain parties is also a bit messy.
Donatello Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 (edited) I'm struggling to understand how some posters appear to be unable to distinguish between disappointment over Lallana’s conduct (affirmed by the club statement *and* Guan) and disappointment over Lallana's sale I.e. most posters are aggrieved by the former. The Champions League/increased pay rationale is irrelevant because most accept that transfers occur. Heck, we've known about this one for weeks anyway, ergo, I imagine most of the disappointment over the transfer has long since dissipated. What we're left with now is acrimony and egoism. Mallagroth Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 The most galling part of this transfer saga for me is that a professional footballer being paid lots of money by SFC for the last 14 years was wearing our shirt and captaining the club during the run in of last season to achieve our best ever points and possibly even higher. I like to think that a professional man would be focused on his job and not secretly bashing one out over a competitor. In Lallanas own words he stopped caring about Saints and doing the job he was paid to before the end of last season.
LaptopSaint Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 According to the Independent we got £325 million for Lallana. That is some add-ons. I'd say we mugged them. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/adam-lallana-joins-liverpool-england-midfielder-believes-world-cup-failure-will-make-him-stronger-as-he-looks-ahead-to-new-chapter-with-liverpool-9577910.html Adam Lallana joins Liverpool: England midfielder believes World Cup failure will make him stronger as he looks ahead to new chapter with Liverpool Lallana completed a 325m move to the Reds and hopes to take lessons he and his England team-mates learnt from Brazil into his Liverpool career
sussexsaint Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Its my fault largely- i bought a few autographs to have in the office at work I got Poch, Osvaldo , Lambert , lallana, shaw, lovren and wanyama there are a few spaces on the wall now - needless to say RL is still on there though
Colinjb Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Some Saints fans are like spoilt children at Christmas. I want that toy AND that toy. Sorry mate... but as has been repeatedly said: It's not what you do, it's how you do it. Players have left before, I haven't felt as angry about them. Adam has let himself down terribly with how he has handled this and it has left the bridges well and truly burnt. His words are empty as his actions have belied them.
madruss Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Some Saints fans are like spoilt children at Christmas. I want that toy AND that toy. That's not what's happened here. You can tell that from the fact that such a wide range of fans, most of whom are normally quite balanced and reasonable in their arguments, feel this way. No one is whinging that a player has left the club. A player that we all thought wasn't a di*k, has acted like a di*k. This is an open forum where the di*kery is being discussed. There's no spoiltness that I can see

Bearsy Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 clattenburg needs to learn not to attempt the simultaneous double-pick. One nostril at the time, Clattenburg! Otherwise you might suffocate.

SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 In line with Club policy (which the vast majority of fans appear to concur with).... can this thread be taken off as a sticky so AL fades away forever....?
ART Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Umm... I would like to thank you and others for putting me right yesterday over Sharp's number. Don't know how I got that all confused.I had it in my head Sharp wore the No 20 at the friendly against Eastleigh pre season last year. (Norm always said I was useless with figures!!!??)
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Morgan and Lovren next out the door methinks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Let's see if they too display the same selfishness.

I think a full page ad from the fans combining these two pictures would be funny and help ease the anger and pain we all feel towards AL by making him into a laughing stock. How about a full page apology to Clattenburg from the fans rather than a thank you? The picture of Clattenburg picking his nose with Adam is genius though! Edited 2 July, 2014 by SaintRobbie
saint lard Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 I think to a smaller degree they might already have done. No suprises anymore. Football is really crap to like at times. mitch01 Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Sorry but you're one of the few missing the point entirely..doesn't his behaviour rile you? I can guarantee he would have been wished well by a lot more if he had acted with dignity, like rickie has done Sent from my C1905 using Tapatalk Rile me? Why waste the energy. Rickie's circumstances are different, we have no idea how he would have acted under Adam's. I'd much prefer to appreciate AL's brilliant contribution to our club, even if he has left under something of a cloud, than dismiss him as a classless primadona (something I have seen absolutely zero evidence for in his displays on the pitch since 2008). He's a 26 y/o facing what is probably his best opportunity to do something amazing with his career, I really don't think it makes him a terrible person for trying to force the issue. It's not inconceivable that he could win a few medals in the next few seasons rather than sit in midtable with us, why does it surprise people so much that he'd be desperate to go?
OldNick Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 I suspect the best thing to do is contact Liverpool Echo and tell them how happy we were to take the fantastic amount of money we got for him.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Great summary on The Ugly. Captures the feeling of the whole club. Adam Lallana's Daily Echo Statement Backfires Wednesday, 2nd Jul 2014 10:36 When it was announced that Adam Lallana was going to thank the fans in a full page advert in the Daily Echo it seemed a good way for the now ex Saints Captain to make up with the supporters, but that has not turned out to be the case. Saints supporters expecting a heartfelt message straight from the heart of Adam Lallana as was the case with Rickie Lambert's departure a month ago' were to be sorely disappointed and judging by comments on social media sites, the full page message actually seems to have been counter productive in that it has further fuelled rumour that Lallana has changed from a down to earth all round nice guy to a person who has found it quite easy to turn his back on those supporters who have worshipped him. The full page in today's Daily Echo seems little more than a pr stunt dream't up by his people, rather than a personal message written by Lallana himself, most of the page is taken up by a picture of Lallana himself followed by a very short few words reading. "14 unforgettable years, the memories will last a lifetime, thank you Saints fans for your endless support, a place in my heart forever" This has lead to indignation across social media sites, whilst most Saints fans can appreciate the reasons why Lallana should want to move, they are struggling with the alleged reports in the press about his behaviour, here Lallana had the chance to say a few things to the fans on a personal level as Rickie Lambert did, but he chose to put in a few words that said nothing. Pointedly the Southampton Football Club's own official statement was just as short as Lallana's message, it merely confirmed that the player had left and that the fee although undisclosed would help the club further develop the squad. It was a cold and emotionless statement unlike the warm words that accompanied Shaw & Lambert's departure. When both Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw left the Club statement's were far more extensive and wished both players well with their new clubs, seemingly suggesting that transfer negotiations had been conducted in the right manner and that Saints felt that the move was not only right for the players but also for the club itself. Saints short and sweet statement lends credence to an article in the Daily Star this morning that suggests that Lallana had told the club he would never play for them again if they did not sell him to Liverpool. Certainly rumours in the press after the end of last season suggested that unlike Shaw & Lambert, Lallana was making demands about his potential move, the other two seemed content to sit back and let events take their course, or at least publicly they did meaning the supporters could wave them off with no animosity. But with Lallana there was that whiff of something that stank in the air, at best Lallana was just plain naive, certainly the signing of a Liverpool shirt in Miami and the comment to the fan that he hoped he would be moving to Anfield was ill advised, but that could all be put down to it being just another naive, arrogant professional footballer who had no idea of anything bar his own self. The sad thing was that Adam Lallana was never that type of footballer, over the years he had always come across as a humble person with his feet firmly on the ground and it should be remembered that in the past he has shown great loyalty to this club, if anyone in the squad truly deserved a big money move, it was him for the service he has given us, in fact he really should have gone with the fans wishes ringing in his ears and not some newspaper report allegedly showing him up as being just what Mark Clattenberg alleged up at Goodison Park last December. The Daily Star is clearly getting its info from someone close to the club, football clubs usually retain their dignity and rarely get involved in wars of words publicly, but that doesn't stop them getting their side of the story out through friendly journos in the national press. When "A club source said: "Adam threw his toys out of the pram and said he would never play for the club again if they did not accept Liverpool's offer. It left a bitter taste." As was reported in today's Daily Star, you can bet your bottom dollar that this is coming from a club source very close to the corridors of power, it is not just on the words of the car park attendant. I can understand why Lallana should be desperate for this move, the irony is that if he had kept quiet and let things run there course then like Shaw and Lambert it would probably have happened, the reality is that a year ago Adam Lallana signed a five year deal knowing that there were few other premier clubs interested in him and those that where would not have been interested in paying much over £5 million, one good season later and his value has rocketed, the truth is this is perhaps a much better deal for Saints than some would realise, Lallana was always going to go at that price the only real question was for how much, Saints were within their rights to hold out and try to push the price up, Lallana didn't think they were and if the Daily Star is to be believed issued these ultimatums. Whatever way you look at it Lallana hasn't come out of this smelling of roses, only he and the club know the real truth, however with this full page ad he had the chance to set a few things straight, he had the chance to leave with his dignity intact and the supporters who loved him for so long and supported him through thick and thin to wish him well. If he had written the piece from the heart and not dismissed us with so few words that could have been the case, to be blunt I have had better thank you's in Macdonalds when buying a burger, if he had done that then we would remember him fondly, now even the most avid Lallana supporter feels cheated and that these are the actions of a man that if these allegations are true did not deserve our affections. Good luck Adam Lallana I hope that you find happiness and what you want to achieve, somehow I think that you won't truly do so, as your alleged behavior showed that perhaps you are not as confident in your abilities as you will perhaps need to be at a club like Liverpool
jasonb Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 Perhaps we could have a whip round and place an ad like this in the Liverpool Sun, or whatever their local rag is called. Its called the ECHO... see they even have the same name for their so-called local rag as us. Next they'll be wanting our tourism business in the form of Ocean Liners.. oh! Dang!

Good luck Adam Lallana I hope that you find happiness and what you want to achieve, somehow I think that you won't truly do so, as your alleged behavior showed that perhaps you are not as confident in your abilities as you will perhaps need to be at a club like Liverpool And did ou ask Nick if you could reproduce his article here, No? thought not.
melmacian_saint Posted 2 July, 2014 Posted 2 July, 2014 I somehow think that we got less than 20 million for the move.
