SO16_Saint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 As much as he has been a complete pain in the ar$e since he joined, and before for that matter, he clearly has talent and ability. I for one wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed, got his head down and put in some performances. It'll be like having a new £15M striker coming on board if Koeman can make it work. not a popular viewpoint, i agree, but it could COULD just work.
pimpin4rizeal Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Agree, like gaston ramirez he didnt get a proper run in the side going but you could see the flashes of class.
notnowcato Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I agree but unfortunately I also think it would end in disappointment again. Dani has had many chances at many different clubs now, ultimately all ending with him not performing and causing disruption. It's an expensive mistake but I fear a bigger mistake would be having him back amongst the squad.
Patrick Bateman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Wonder if he'll be turning up to report for preseason training today??
CB Saint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 To be fair, half the people who were peed off with him have gone
SaintRichmond Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 To be fair, half the people who were peed off with him have gone I think it hinges on Fonte If Fonte is suddenly xferred, then Osvaldo WILL be back IMHO
Colinjb Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 He is talented but precious. I would hope that Koeman has the experience to at least try to get something out of him. We need strikers and he is clearly able.
homesick-saint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I would love to think that fonte and the club will give him another chance
david in sweden Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 (edited) Some managers (McMenemy was one, Strachan, too) had a talent for rehabilitating "bad boys" and getting them back on the straight and narrow. As someone (above) pointed out Fonte (now 30) may a limited shelf life, and if/when he goes there will be few memories of that training ground "spat". The question remains, will Koeman attempt to reform Dani?..... or ship him back to Italy for the first reasonable offer. It may be that a new playing formation may suit his style more and he'll stay on.... He surely does have talent, and (whatever anyone says).... I think his fantastic goal v. Man City was a good runner-up to Lalllana 's goal of the season. Edited 1 July, 2014 by david in sweden
SaintRichmond Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I would love to think that fonte and the club will give him another chance So would I in an ideal world. But there must be a reason for Fonte's Contract delay ??

The9 Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I think he could still be an excellent striker somewhere, I'm just not sure we wouldn't be better off shipping him out and buying someone of equivalent or slightly lesser ability and without the attitude problems who won't already have an issue with a lot of the squad. The team ethic and contribution to our success can't be underestimated, committed players who play for each other are usually more successful than an equivalent team of individuals, and he's definitely one of those.
stevegrant Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I think it's about time grown men starting acting like them. Unfortunately this is professional footballers we're talking about, so that seems like something of a pipe dream.
Saint_Ash Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Maybe not making the World Cup was a humbling experience for him and he has a had a good hard look at himself. If he can accept that he is an employee of Southampton FC and can apologise for how he's been and try and get on with the rest of the squad (that's still here) I don't see why he can't integrate back in. Time is a healer after all.
ART Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 "Fonte now 30 and may a limited shelf life"!!!!!!!! Osvaldo will be 29 next January. Hardly worth destroying the heart of the club again for an also limited shelflife.
tpbury Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 This is a new broom now, sweeping clean. We have to start from fresh and, unless Koemann has personal experience of him, I should hope he'd want to look him over. All previous team ethos is gone and this may be a chance to rebuild.
Dellman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 It's wishful thinking, leopards don't lose their spots, Osvaldo's attitude is all wrong and has been at several clubs. Remember how Roma fans couldn't wait to get rid. We achieved something big by rehabilitating Puncheon but Osvaldo is different, a Suarez type but not as good. We are rebuilding and we don't want trouble makers in the midst of that.
dronskisaint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I don't think Osvaldo see his future here although his options are likely to be limited given his goal-scoring and behavioural record recently. I agree his talent deserves a chance but his head has got to want it too.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Well has he turned up for pre-season training? I somehow don't think he will
TK8267 Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Hoping he comes back, first game kicks seven bells of **** out of Lallana.... just me? ok....
Asaint4ever Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I hope he scores the winner against spurs and Liverpool
angelman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Can I throw something into the mix..... While he seems to be a MP signing (maybe it was NC???), we have been told that there was a clique that MP favoured. Could it be possible that Osvaldo wasn't part of the clique? I know that given that he was likely to be a MP signing it doesn't make sense, but something doesn't seem to quite add up.
Saint Charlie Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 No sign of him on the videos. Obviously not coming back.
DuncanRG Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I would be happy to give him another chance if the club and his team mates are. But if he's not training today that's a fairly clear sign. Unless he's injured?
ART Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 No sign of him on the videos. Obviously not coming back. A number of others aren't to be seen in the videos, such as your idol Billy Sharp. Not everyone is outside. Some players will be undergoing medicals inside. The Echo clearly says he will be there. He might not see his future here but who;s playing his wages if he weren't to appear? Money talks!

buctootim Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Club might just not be showing him to be fair. What videos? OS still down for me.
Patrick Bateman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 A number of others aren't to be seen in the videos, such as your idol Billy Sharp. Not everyone is outside. No they don't - they are guessing as much as we are. "Saints’ players report back for their first day under new boss Ronald Koeman with bad boy Dani Osvaldo expected to be amongst them."
CB Saint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I've got a job for Dani. The is a certain former midfielder that would benefit from a kick in the plums in the first game of the season - there will be no club fine. Fill your boots.
angelman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 LOL - well I guess that's one way to endear himself to the fans, especially if it leads to a red card.
Batman Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 I would have him back in a heartbeat. will only need to replace lambert then, should ossie stay he has the tools to score many goals, just need the application
notnowcato Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 he has the tools to score many goals, just need the application and a check up from the neck up..
buctootim Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 he has the tools to score many goals, just need the application Thats the problem though, he hasn't got it - here, Juventus, anywhere. If he had he'd be amazing instead of frustrating.
kitch Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 He surely does have talent, and (whatever anyone says).... I think his fantastic goal v. Man City was a good runner-up to Lalllana 's goal of the season. Independant of all the goings on with AL and DO etc, I think it was the goal of the season for us. Adz only got it because the club didn't want to give it to Dani IMO. It was an awesome goal, sheer class. Sort of thing you'd see from Bergkamp, or even Le God himself.
stevegrant Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Osvaldo absent from training today due to illness, apparently. Cue speculation...
Pastor Patrón Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Thats the problem though, he hasn't got it - here, Juventus, anywhere. If he had he'd be amazing instead of frustrating. Erm Roma? He's an immense player, if fontes the only one with a problem then sell Fonte
melmacian_saint Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Erm Roma? He's an immense player, if fontes the only one with a problem then sell Fonte Sell Fonte and have the rest of squad not like Osvaldo and not get on with him and on top of that be angry at the board for selling the side they stood by.
Pastor Patrón Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Sell Fonte and have the rest of squad not like Osvaldo and not get on with him and on top of that be angry at the board for selling the side they stood by. They might like him, I would he's an absolute lad
buctootim Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Erm Roma? He's an immense player, if fontes the only one with a problem then sell Fonte Roma where he punched Lamela and threatened the manager and was shipped out to Saints?
SB Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 The back pedalling speaks volume from posters on how low we've fallen..
Pastor Patrón Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Roma where he punched Lamela and threatened the manager and was shipped out to Saints? Was he not an amazing player there then?
buctootim Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Ive never said he cant play, he's got great ability - but you cant rely on him as part of a team. And its a team game.
Coldridge Posted 1 July, 2014 Posted 1 July, 2014 Osvaldo absent from training today due to illness, apparently. Cue speculation... He was looking healthy enough just 20 hours ago at a poolside in Miami. Hmm... http://instagram.com/p/p4Q_wJop78/
