[h=2]Sammy Lee to be our new Assistant Manager?[/h]

Ronald's brother, Erwin Koeman is Southampton's assistant manager.

Trouble with appointing that shortarsed scouse **** is that Ronald or Erwin will spend far too much time trying to translate what he says into English for the benefit of the squad.

never the tallest man in any side he played him. Sammy Lee's diminutive build disguised the soul of tough, hard-tacking midfielder who won his share of honours with Liverpool in the early 1980's.

and 3 League titles, 4 League Cups, 2 European Cups and 14 games for England would look impressive on anyone's CV.

Only " nerdy statisticians" would discover that he was even on the books as a Saints' player at one time, after a spell in Spain. He joined Saints staff (in the era of Chris Nicholl's management) as player-coach, but when Nicholl was sacked some months later, Sammy was out of the door with him. (A fate that many assistants suffer when the top man is replaced).

He then went to Bolton (as player) before returning to Anfield as coach - then back to Bolton as assistant manager (and later manager), then back to Liverpool as Assistant Manager again, and more recently at Bolton (yet again) as their Academy Coach. (During Sven-Göran Erikson's time as England manager, he was even on the England coaching staff for a while).

If the story is true or not, we can say that Sammy knows his football and has " paid his dues " to the Footballing world. Any club who does employ him will get someone with a real footballer's brain.

Think he'll be part of the first team coaching setup. Apart from Ronald and Erwin, we haven't really got another coach, only Jan and he's more fitness based.

Random fact: Sammy Lee is 'nicknamed' BBC (balls, bibs, cones)

Great option for the either a job alongside the Koemans, or as a replacement Dodd/Williams in charge of the U18s or even perhaps for Martin Hunter's U21s. Hope the report has some basis of truth, and is the start of a week of rebuilding.

Interesting that he was head of academy at Bolton - but even they are saying he is coming to work alongside Koeman. Maybe it it'll be a half and half role - bridging the gap between the first and development squads.

Please not again. Still haven't really recovered from seeing that fat annoying scouse twt in a Saints shirt. Remember him so called playing for us at an field?

Good appointment I guess. I would have preferred to see a younger (early 40s) 'active on the training ground pitch' coach appointed to balance the two 50 something Koemans.

See you made a hasty edit of your original post. I am beginning to get a feel for the politics of appearing right all the time!

The thread title is still wrong, he won't be our assistant manager, he'll either be a 1st team coach alongside Ronald & Erwin Koeman or he'll be the replacement Jason Dodd as under 18 manager.

What was your original post bud?!

I removed this link....

1. Did Koeman want him or did Reed bring him in as he knows him, like Hunter. Don't see how he fits Koeman's football philosophy in all honesty.

2. Is this really how we do business now? All seems a bit desperate.

3. Will there be any news that our club announces before its completely common knowledge?

Did you not know one of the Nuns is a scouser?

According to Wiki he is joining up with Ronaldo Koema. So that will be 3 RKs. Most likely he is coming to take over from Dodd. Not so bad, at least he is a man with former Saints connections, albeit only 2 games.

Don't care about that lot, but certainly a pretty good amount of experience for us. Won't hurt.

This cant be right, it must be a false rumour, because no one on this forum predicted it and the board are too slow in dealing with anything and we already used up all of our luck in one hit landing a new manager.

Why do our club announce everything last?

Because they announce it when the paperwork is signed, not when they have a verbal agreement - like Brighton did, in this instance.

What has happened, and Brighton's disappointment and the resulting climb down - is EXACTLY why Saints don't announce things prematurely.

Except it seems Lee had signed the paperwork. If not Brighton would not have made a statement about him working his notice, which they have apparently waived their right to.
