Gaston Ramirez

Black Sea Saint

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, Ramirez has had enough chances to show what he can do for Saints, and one decent corner for Uruguay doesn't change anything.

He clearly has some ability but is proof that ability alone is not enough to be a successful player at Premier league level, you need to show application, determination and work hard for your team as well, and this is where he has been lacking. It is quite telling that those who say we should keep faith with him refer back to one performance from a couple of years back, an indicator that he just hasn't done enough for us.

Obviously it will be up to Koeman to decide, but I would far rather he put all his energies into trying to keep the players that HAVE performed consistently well for Saints rather than trying to re-mould the team to suit someone who hasn't performed.

Why would they need to be seperate things?

Ramirez showed his best for us under Nigel Adkins when we played a more open attacking system. With more space to work in and more time on the ball he looked a better player. Koeman preaches attacking football and it may be in a way that again would give Ramirez the space and freedom to show the ability he has on occasion done. (Even under Pochettino he had moments, the high through ball to Lallana v West Brom, the long range strike v Everton.)

It is naturally Ronald Koeman's call, but to call for a clearly talented man to be thrown away on the basis of the previous manager's set up would be a complete folly.

I think its clear he and Poch didn't get along too well, Gaston may have been looking for a move away before he went to Spurs but now should be hoping for a fresh start and thinking twice about leaving. Said it last summer but this could be his season if given the chance under RoKo

So hes suddenly going to come good because of change of manager and change of team-mates. (is this another variation on "Everybody Else's Fault", perchance ?)

Utter rot. He may well p*ss Koeman off with his attitude and work-rate in his very first training session.

I have never said he isnt talented, but succeeding at the highest level needs more than natural raw talent.

He hasnt stood up and made himself counted in 2 seasons, and I see no evidence that he's going to bother now.

Really, getting all moist over one corner is utterly pathetic.

Normal alpine racist abuse.

Latin American = lazy / bad attitude

IF you had seen him play you would have noticed how brave/ positive he is with the ball, the way he is keen to have the ball, for example being available for Clyne when boxed in etc.

He even tries to tackle, although I don't feel he is a natural.

For much of the season, due to JayRod and Lallana's form he couldn't get in the side.

Just as Cork is third choice for his position.

English Cork was poor soul who must be frustrated.

Gaston is Carlos Kick about happy to waste on bench.

Alpine is just showing his racist stereotyping.

He has never seen him play and bases his opinion purely on his ignorant prejudices.

Wow, the straw-clutchers really ar in fine fettle, mouthy and aggressive, based on one kick of a football.

 says the troll from the Tyrol who has been angrily thumping his keyboard all morning proclaming anyone who wants 'gashton' to do well as talking bol*ocks.

Utter b*ll*cks.

Its simply pointing out a scneario under which the hoped-for (in some quarters) Gashton Renaissance wont happen.

Yes, because there are no examples anywhere of any player suddenly playing a lot better for a new manager. None. Nada.

Why do you think he got selected for Uruguay's World Cup squad, and how do you explain why was he then the man their manager turned to when his side were desperate for a goal when their World Cup hopes were hanging by a thread?

That's the one bit I can't figure out in your logic.

There usually isnt any logic or higher thought processes - its usually just a visceral reaction. He's obviously capable of more measured input but doesn't bother to control his impulses. Odd.

Please tell me I didn't read that... I don't believe it...

If you're going to use cliches for pity's sake don't mimic Alan Bloody Thicko Shearer!

Who in hell's name ever uses a locker these days?

I do at the gym ... not much talent in mine unfortunately :(

You do the same with Osvaldo to be fair.

What do I do with Osvaldo ?

Yeah, dont rate him either. Lunatic.

I suggest you and NickG go away and think all the other races that represent Saints currently and consider what unfairly critical I have said about them.

Gaston is a decent player who hasn't had a run because of his and / or the managers lack of desire to play. He has a lot of talent, whether we ever see it who knows.

The same people who moan about Gaston were likely the ones who would have retained Wotton over Schneiderlin.

Do you believe that Gaston has the talent to be a good player for us? Is it a natural fit in to the side which you have a problem with, or his work rate? Or just how good he is at football?

Most of Ramirez's performances last season were pretty good.

I'm not surprised a misanthropic, expat, little Englander, with a more than healthy mistrust of Johnny Foreigner, who never watches matches would be:

a) confused and angry; and

b) an awful person to converse with.

I'd venture to suggest that while he hasn't lived up to his potential or price tag, there have been more glimpses of brilliance than shown by either lallana or Morgan in their first two seasons or by the same age. Your writing him off, alps, is based on his price tag, wages and the fact he's South American, not on what he actually has done and is capable of. A corner doesn't change anything, but then nothing needs to have changed. He's an excellent talent with bags of potential who will be an excellent footballer. It may not be with us, Forlan has been top class but never showed for United, but by keeping on calling him gash just demonstrates how pointless your views are. You're wrong, he's not gash, end of.

Got to laugh, when his racist views are commented on, our poster from Austria comes back with a sharp insult...'Nazi'. Wonder why?

Oh OK, you are not a racist as you don't mind some of them! That's up there with 'I can't be racist some of my best friends are black'

You have missed one of chalet maid's written off player list - yes he hated Schneiderlin, thought Lallana was poor, and welcomed the signing of JayRod with an in depth assessment of his skills, saying "why the f#£k did we sign him?!"

....never seen him play but as he is Latin American clearly lazy, attitude problem, happy to be sub, Carlos Kick about Gashton.

I'm also not going to get too excited about 12 minutes at the World Cup for Gaston Ramirez but I also think he's had a difficult time at Saints where he's shown flashes of brilliance unrivalled by his peers. My hope is that RK can get the best out of him and we have a truly wonderful player on our hands.

With regards to Alpine wanting a player that contributes for 90 minutes instead of 5, my guess is that he preferred watching Carlton Palmer play for Saints than MLT.

I'm quite sure I remember some manager or another talking about violinists and road sweepers, but then what would he know.

I pity you that you feel the need to waste one of your limited posts on whining non-stop about me. Your continual mis-representation of my opinion about J-Rod is spectacularly desperate....

I suggest you look up what racist really means.
