Anyway, great appointment and will be interesting to see who makes up his backroom team.

aintforever Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 A big name so should be able to attract a decent quality player. Mixed record though, seems to have been in an out of alot of clubs pretty quickly, not 100% on him.

Heisenberg Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 I will be interested to see how big Ronald Koeman's war chest is. Hoping this is true He was first interviewed a fortnight ago but the deal looked to have stalled because of a dispute over the transfer budget he demanded. However, the Saints' owner Katharina Liebherr has now promised Koeman a sizeable war chest to revamp the squad he'll inherit.

Turkish Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 So we got our first choice who is a bit name with experience. He's been given a decent transfer budget and the board have held firm not to sell anyone until the new manager is appointed. Let's here it for Ralph, Kat, Les and Gareth. saint lard Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 Koeman is a great name in the footballing fraternity. For Southampton To have got him is a huge achievement. This shouldn't be be underestimated. It's on par with signing keegan again..almost. He beat Yakin to the post. SaintlyAnd Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 Does anyone know much about Koeman's teams style of play? From what I've seen Feyenoord played a similar formation to us but played very directly to Pelle up front rather than an entertaining passing game. I hope we're going to continue with the high pressure, passing game but not sure Koeman brings this and I think I'm a bit more pessimistic about him than most others (I hope I'm wrong). If he does come then I want him to bring Boetius from Feyenoord as he's going to be a top player.

Miltonaggro Posted 13 June, 2014 Share Posted 13 June, 2014 Loved Koeman as a player, uncompromising, world class doesn't quite cut it. A defender with a better scoring record than a lot of forwards, at his peak 200 appearances and 70 goals for a great Barcelona side. Can't wait to see him managing Saints, and fair play to the Board if Ronald's our man and a sizeable transfer fund has been agreed - after Pochettinos exit this was as much as they could do. I'm convinced Koeman is an upgrade on Pochettino in all areas, now let's see a Saints side do to the establishment what Holland did to Spain this evening! Ronald Koeman's Red and White Army! My track record so far: Knew would be a disaster: Gray, Wigley, Dutch Duo, Wilkins, Gorman/Dodd Underwhelmed: Pochettino, Jones, Sturrock, Sourpuss, Koeman Quietly optimistic: Adkins, Pearson, Pardew, Burley, Hoddle, Strachan Delighted: Saggy (because Wigley had been sacked) Hope I'm as wrong about Koeman as I was about MP (and 'Arry). TheCholulaKid Posted 14 June, 2014 Share Posted 14 June, 2014 I'm convinced Koeman is an upgrade on Pochettino in all areas What convinced you of that? Was it his patchy record as a manager? Having said that...a big name who might convince some of our wantaways to stay and attract some decent players in too. I'll put myself in the 'cautiously optimistic' category. Wiggles31 Posted 14 June, 2014 Share Posted 14 June, 2014 Our first choice and the man who overwhelming won the SWF poll for choice of manager. Happy days. Having said that...a big name who might convince some of our wantaways to stay and attract some decent players in too. I'll put myself in the 'cautiously optimistic' category. To be fair in only 1 of his 7 managerial jobs was his record worse than that of MoPo's at Saints. Add to that the size of his name in world football and his ability with youth and imo every way you look at it suggests he'll be a step up.
