Did we get rid of MP just in time?

You do realise we averaged slightly more goals under Poch than Adkins? You forget some truly dire and one-dimensional performances under Nige -Wigan and Sunderland at home spring to mind. And who wouldn't miss Jrod - teams miss full-internationals, especially when their squad is so thin. That has nothing to do with the absence of a plan B.

I stand by what I say. In came Pochettino with a similar amount of games to the end of the season as Adkins had from the beginning of our return to the Premiership and moved us upwards massively by one whole place. Granted that he then moved us up a further 6 places, but then who is to say that Adkins couldn't have done that too, given the resources that were given to Pochettino. Perhaps the money wasted on Pochettino's old oppo Osvaldo might have been better spent on a striker who could have justified his price tag with 15/20 goals.

And mentioning Sunderland, we didn't manage to beat them in three attempts last season, despite the fact that they were at the bottom of the table for much of the season. Wigan? That would be the team managed by Martinez, lauded as one of the best young managers in the division.

Corrected it for you

Funny how Brian mcD won the league with that squad, beating us to the title

Wigan who had to play countless more games, changed their manager and lost key players got into the playoffs

If Adkins was worth his salt that some describe, he should have got the better of Oscar Garcia's Brighton. Who we shudder to think was linked with us with his striker

Wish he was still here and Lambert is saying what a great coach and how he improved the player's especially lallana.I've got no bitterness against him has modern football..coach's like the players only stay at clubs for a short time.

We're all looking forward to seeing Pochettino be a roaring success at every club he ever manages for the rest of his career.

Whats changed from the day Adkins was sacked? You were fuming that day, telling Nicola to "go **** himself" and when asked Is sacking Nigel Adkins today the correct decision? You voted NO like 94% of Saints fans.

Whats changed your opinion on him?

We/he was slow to get going in our return to the prem, but after 2 consecutive promotions and very limited prem experience that was hardly surprising? But he/we got it together and had just 2 defeats in his last 13 games.

Look how Pooch did when he needed to play Jos, Gazza, Fox......

It was more of who came in, thought MP was a no hoper as I had never ever heard of him

Anyway, same old Glasgow

Won't be long before the "%" will be used 25 times a day

But you told Nicola "to go **** himself" before Pooch was announced. You were fuming that Adkins was being pushed out.

Whats changed?

MP being an excellent manager. Quite obvious

I will leave it there as you will revert to type and spam this thread with your "stats"

So if Koeman comes in and does better than Pooch, you will think Mopo is a crap manager too? I dont get that logic.

Adkins time at reading tells me he was not a that. Regardless of how anyone else does

If MP goes the other way with spurs then my view of him will change

Generally how it works, but you know that and are just fishing

Pochettino has failed elsewhere. Other managers havent done so well initially when they have moved on. Adkins did a brilliant job for us over a perio of time. Pochettion won nothing with us and passed up a brilliant opportunity to progress in the FA Cup. One minute you slag off people then you pledge your undying loyalty (Adkins, Coretse) or vice versa. It will be interesting to see how you rise your opinon of Pochettino if he fails at Spurs. Adkins is a decent manager.

Adkins is a decent manager. A premier league manager? Not for me.

Doubt many (any) teams in the prem will look to him. He will have to get a team up to get another crack (like dyche)

If MP fails at spurs in that, they finish lower than 5th I will think it was more the players he had here than anything he did that was so amazing. But right now, Adkins finished 7th in the championship and MP has gone to spurs

Who do I think is the better manager? Poch by an absolute country mile. Right now

If we get Koeman it would have been a logical progression - Adkins to the Premier League, MoPo to consolidate, Koeman to break us in to Europe.

For me it's improvement, and rule 1 of running a football club is to only replace a manager if you have someone better. Fair play to Les Reed so far so good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't get rid of Mopo.He left of his own accord.Anyone who can't see that Mopo is a better manager than Adkins is a fool. But that's not to say the next guy can't do even better .

Differen, yes. Better? Hmmm, lets see how it works for him at Spurs.

If you just base people on what they hav recently achieved then Pochettino definately had a better season than Adkins. Pochettino inherited an excellent squad but I would question that his spent wisely in the transfer market. If Adkins had stayed I think we would have kept the scoringrate up but tightened up at the back. With the basic team and his own sigings I think he could have finished 8th or higher. Would Pochettno have got Reading up? Who knows. Different circumstances and we can only guess. I hope that Adkins gets another crack at the Premiership soon. It wasnt that long ago he was being touted as an England manager in waiting.

In the natural progression of things.....4 players managed to make the successful transition from L1 to the Prem.(last season), and came out better than they were at the beginning. (2009)

Lambert, Lallana, Fonte and Schneiderlin. One might also argue that Puncheon also improved, but that's purely hypothetical as he's not here anymore. The majority of the others " fell by the wayside ".

Adkins' best (previous) effort was his time at Scunny. He also made the transition through L1 / Championship...and into the Prem. but found his level of incompetence there (no offence Nigel).

We made it so far *****il MP arrived to save the day), but NA had made some glaring mistakes. Such as...going into his first season with only KD and PG as his goalies. He failed to get sufficient cover in defence, and then, having bought in Jay Rod....didn't seem to know how / where to play him, which left us relying on RL much of the time.

His game tactics that worked in L1 and Championship were far too predictable for most Prem. sides and it showed.

This coming season...... we will see exactly what MP is made of.

His previous experience in bringing on young players (Espanyol / Saints) paid some dividends in the long run - even if neither club actually won anything.

At Spurs the task is different, as they have a great many experienced (and costly) prima-donnas who might not take to the idea of " double-training " and the like.

If Spurs do well, then he'll have " won them over " ......if not and they're only mid-table by Christmas, he might be on his way sooner than he (or anyone else thinks.)

There's more than a little of the " Abrahamovic mentality " about Levy as well. They'd do well to scout out another manager for a Plan B - after New Year. We'll see.
