Ashtead Saint Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 Djemaa El-Fna (the main square) is a must. Get there an hour or so before sunset and enjoy the story tellers, snake charmers, food stalls with roasted sheep's heads etc before going up to one of the bars overlooking the square for a drink while the sun sets. Taxis are good value but be prepared to haggle. We enjoyed a tour round one of the tanneries. Try to avoid the touts. They are persistent.
mightysaints Posted 6 June, 2014 Share Posted 6 June, 2014 The square is fantastic, don't take any photos of the performers as they will want cash. Nice bar overlooking the square with a top terrace, sells beer.

Goatboy Posted 10 June, 2014 Author Share Posted 10 June, 2014 sandalwood, mint and berber rouge the drunken Gnawa heartbeat drone and crack of neon fly. charcoal smoke and veiled kohl eyes watch wasps plague honey sweet figs and the muezzin's bolstered plea blows leather skins and bellows through the lantern heavy stippled souk. Saying that, my favourite bit so far is when some old henna merchant crone battered a young local with her plastic stool. mega lolz.

svetigpung Posted 16 June, 2014 Share Posted 16 June, 2014 be sure to stay in a Riad in town. Avoid hotels outside of the town. Plenty of fantastic old places queezed into the ancient chaotic lanes. Once inside an oasis of harmany opens up before you. Breakfast on the roof of the riads in the sun was the perfect start to the day. Can recommend the walk from Djemaa El-Fna to Kashbah through the hundreds of narrow lanes. Dont get lost. Its amazingly difficult to find your way anywhere when off the main streets. Do get lost. Thats when you'll discover some gems.
