...and stayed on for a season or more? Just been asked this in the office (as a way of saying "well, what do you expect?")

Assuming AS and LS are off this summer, then only MLT and JRod I can think of (unless someone takes a punt on an injured Jay)

Anyone else? Big no on Crouch, Beatts and Bridge.

Granted it’s going back a while, but Terry Paine stayed with us for most of his long career and I seem to recall that Mick Channon stayed for about 5 years after his first England call-up.

Of course, things were different back in those days.

Danny Wallace stayed for about 3 years after his one and only cap

David Armstrong stayed for sometime dont know if he played whilst at Middlesboro not sure about Mark Wright as he had a bust up with Laurie Mac

Armstrong looks to have stilll been at Boro when he first got called up but Mark Wright played for Saints for about 3 years after getting called up; Jeez what a golden age that was, no-one wanted to leave unless they had a bust up with Lawrie Mac.

Today's younger supporters just don't know how good we were and why some of us just can't wait until we're that good again.

We were nearly there, fear it's all gone tits up now though.

Aye, happy days.

Don’t Saints hold the record for fielding the most England captains – past, present and future – in the same team? Six, I think it was.

I can’t see that ever happening again.

Mike Channon played on & off for England for several years before signing for Man City

well........as it happens Mick played 45 times for England and scored 21 goals (whilst with Saints) and only once after his move to Man.City (June 1977).

That was effectively the end of his International career.

Did David Armstrong make his first England appearance whilst at Saints?

Armstrong (3 caps) played ONCE for Middlesboro before moving ..and was capped twice more when with Saints (1982-84), although neutrals might say that he was worth more than that in his prime.

(Rather like Jimmy Melia before him) , David Armstrong was prematurely bald in his early twenties and tended to look much older than his years.

Ironic that nowadays shaven-headed players are not uncommon at all - giving rise to the " tough-look".

Exactly, deserters beware...

Well Lambert has stayed for a season, as his first cap was before the season started?

But other than that Le Tiss?

I'm sure Lambert's first cap was about last October, so no he only stayed on for part of a season.

Hang on, Beattie's first cap was in 2003, he left in 2005.

Surely he qualifies?

Indeed, as does Bridge who got his first call up in the 01-02 season, and left following the 02-03 season.
