angelman Posted 4 June, 2014 Share Posted 4 June, 2014 It will cost £30m to replace Sir Rickie. Maybe €10m depending on the manager. GRAZIANO PELLÈ http://www.soccernews.nl//news/255401/Koeman_wil_Pell%C3%A8_meenemen_naar_nieuwe_club
tajjuk Posted 5 June, 2014 Share Posted 5 June, 2014 Aside from Dellday's dull attempt at humour, the only player aged 32 plus, who has ever gone for more than £7m, is Cannavaro the year he captained Italy to World Cup victory. Wasn't he 7 million euros? He went on to win to titles and didn't really start to show his age until the third season. £4 millions is fair price for a 32 year old, we won't replace him for that amount though. Clearly we need to buy more than one striker as well, presuming Osvaldo gets sold and we have to remember Jay Rod is injured and won't be back until at best November. Leaving us with Sam Gallagher as our only recognised striker. So it's not just about Lambert who if i remember correctly played in 37 games out 38 prem games last year but it's also about a replacement for Osvaldo and possibly a replacement/back up for Jay Rod. So we might need THREE strikers.
Halo Stickman Posted 5 June, 2014 Share Posted 5 June, 2014 Frank Lampard on a pay as you play? Depends on how much he’s willing to pay us – on last night’s performance I’d want at least £500K per match.
disconnect Posted 5 June, 2014 Share Posted 5 June, 2014 Mayuka will likely be back next season, whether we want him or not!! I still think he has potential to do a job off the bench.

In his brief cameos last season he looked more effective as a wide player than a central striker.
Minty Posted 5 June, 2014 Share Posted 5 June, 2014 Key thing is what system we play. It was well known (by those who paid attention) that we didn't have 'wide' players as such last year... we had a front four who played 'from' positions, supported by the full backs to give width. The new manager will have his own ideas about how to play, so it remains to be seen just how we'll play and where players will fit into that. Koeman apparently favours 5-3-2 - So would be interesting if he sticks with that or changes systems. (Should he arrive). I always thought 5-3-2 was quite a specialist formation. Smirking_Saint Posted 5 June, 2014 Share Posted 5 June, 2014 He will be replaced by Gallagher. He will play the majority of games next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Then we are screwed, Lambert wasnt good enough as our main striker, hence why we signed Osvaldo (regardless of how it worked out) gallagher isnt good enough for the prem yet. We need to sign two strikers in all honesty

Minty Posted 6 June, 2014 Share Posted 6 June, 2014 Frankly, in the right environment, I think there are quite a few players who could 'do a Rodriguez' and make the step up from Championship to PL and flourish. It's not just about the player, but how they're developed. I think Rhodes and Ings both have that potential.

It's not just about the player, but how they're developed. I think Rhodes and Ings both have that potential. cherry pick the best one or two players from the championship and you usually don't go far wrong. They might not be instant success though, but as imports usually get time to bed in, there's no reason why they shouldn't be given that time too. Whether Ings or Rhodes really are one those two top players I am not sure. Edited 6 June, 2014 by Chez
Minty Posted 6 June, 2014 Share Posted 6 June, 2014 Whether Ings or Rhodes really are one those two top players I am not sure. To be honest I haven't seen enough of either to be confident in my opinion, but what little I have seen does not seem too dissimilar to what I saw of JRod before he signed. Ings has more movement of the two, but I would still think he was a long shot.
JakkoUK Posted 6 June, 2014 Share Posted 6 June, 2014 Didn't Pelle join Feyenoord the beginning of last season for like £4,600,000 from Parma, therefore would he wanna leave after just one season and also how much would we have to pay for him? Premier League football, big pay day, more exposure for the Italian national side - yep, I'd think he'd jump at the chance.

Very good point, I'm sure we would have to pay a premium price for Feyenoord to be willing to let him go. Here's hoping he won't do a Osvaldo and say that the Premier League is too rough. CityRanger Posted 6 June, 2014 Share Posted 6 June, 2014 If Shaw is to go I would love us to do a straight swap deal with Chelsea: Shaw for Lukaku, no cash. Think Shaw would be up for it, also Chelsea have let Cole go. Just need to convince the big Belgian lad...

I thought who ever took a chance on Luuk De Jong from Twente would have a great striker on their hands, but so far he hasn't really turnt up for Newcastle, nor did he for gladbach infact. SuperSAINT Posted 7 June, 2014 Share Posted 7 June, 2014 Agree. You get some top strikers but also some shockers. Agreed. What's interesting (after a bit of youtube scouting) is seeing how many chances he creates ala Rickie. If Koeman is our man, and he thinks he can do the job - I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Cabrone Posted 7 June, 2014 Share Posted 7 June, 2014 If he comes from the Dutch league let's hope he's more Bergkamp than Van Wolfswinkel. His record in Italy was nothing special but he does seem to have thrived in the Eredvisie, maybe he's more suited to faster paced football in which case he could be a good buy, he certainly plays in the role we need. Wasn't Van Wolfswinkel bought from Portugal? He had a pretty successful time with Sporting iirc. I think it goes to show that any signing is a gamble tbh, I mean look at Osvaldo....£15m, playing for a top European club, the Italian number 9...should be a shoe in to be a success, but flopped more than anyone of us could have imagined. waggy Posted 7 June, 2014 Share Posted 7 June, 2014 Another incentive for Graziano Pelle apart from those already mentioned will obviously be playing again for RK, should he take/get the job. He certainly looks the part but replacing SRL is going to be very hard given his interplay with Adz was one of his main strengths.

If you mean Lambert, then it's a mute point IMO - what if the new guy is more mobile and thus able to link up quicker and MORE effectively with Lallana AND J-Rod? I'm sure they will spend much time on the training ground sorting it out, but that assumes Lallana is still with us of course.
