Lambert joins Liverpool

It is genuine, leaked from LFC. There were larger versions of it with quotes around it etc in the same style they used to announce Rodger's new deal doing the rounds on twitter last night

You can tell it's from Liverpool because of the cheap crystal bic pen...only in chav land would they use that.

Feel quite sad at the lack of affection he is showing towards the club that gave him his shot at the big time and the chance to get in the England team.

Doesnt matter who the player is, they are all money-grabbing glory-hunting c**ts at the end of the day.

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Rickie Lambert from Southampton.

The striker, who was on the club's books as a youth player, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds after passing a medical at Melwood.

Moments after signing, the boyhood Liverpool fan said: "I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since.

"I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come.

"I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on."

Give it a day or so, I'm sure we'll get the customary message to saints fans from him, telling us how he enjoyed his time here, blah blah blah.

You mean the usual banal platitudes.

F**k him. Nothing more to do with me now. Looking forward to seeing Uruguay and Italy butt-f**k England in front of the world.

I'll even root for Gashy to score against them.

What can I say…?

Southampton has been my life for the past five years, in which we have achieved all of our dreams and more.

First I have to thank Markus Liebherr for saving Southampton then Alan Pardew for bringing me to the club.

Thank you to all the staff involved in making me the player I am today. Without your knowledge and commitment I would not be here right now at a World Cup with England.

Thank you to all the players, past and present, who I have had nothing but good times and success with driven by our club captain, Kelvin Davis. I love every last one of you.

Thank you to the managers I have worked with – Alan, Nigel and Mauricio – and their teams for helping me and Southampton step up and adapt to every challenge that has come our way the past five years.

When I grew up there was only one club I loved. I can honestly say now I have two clubs which will always be in my heart and that is thanks to the Saints fans.

The people who support this club have been nothing short of amazing towards me and, when I look back in years to come, it will be the relationship I had with the fans here which will stand out the most.

Southampton have allowed me to realise a lifelong ambition by joining Liverpool FC and taking my family home. The five-year plan when I arrived was to get this club from League 1 to the top half of the Premier League. Against all the odds we have achieved that.

Now, under Katharina Liebherr’s leadership, the club has the chance for new plan, a new chapter, and I wish them all the success in the world.

That statement on the official site is a bit crap, would have expected a bit better from him to be honest.

Also how long ago was Kelvin Davis our captain? Did he put that together last year!!

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/02062014-statement-player-interest-rickie-lambert-1592309.aspx

The Club has issued the following statement in relation to interest in a number of its players and the departure of Rickie Lambert…

Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have received multiple offers for some of our players in the past weeks. This is a confirmation of the depth of the development that is ongoing in our academy and of the present standing of our first team within the Premier League.

We are staying true to our plan and vision and, as a result, we have no need to accept any offers. We are deep in the process of appointing a new manager who will continue to move our club forward. It remains our preference not to partake in any transfers until the new manager is in place. Our scouting & recruitment department continues to monitor targets we have identified to improve our squad, and the new manager will have final input into our recruitment process.

However, Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has reached agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Rickie Lambert.

There may be circumstances under which the club will feel it is right for a player to move on. Those circumstances have to be right for the club and the player. This is the case with Rickie’s move to Liverpool.

When Rickie Lambert requested to leave for Liverpool, the club felt it could not stand in the way of having him fulfil his boyhood dream of playing at home. It will be a big challenge to replace him and our intention is to source a quality replacement who will fill his shoes now but also for many years to come.

Chairman Ralph Krueger commented: “On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Rickie. He served with distinction and helped to take Saints from League 1 to the Premier League.

“Rickie has been a shining light in Saints’ growth and will forever remain an icon in the history of the club. He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Southampton and will always be welcome back at St Mary’s.”

I swear some peoples reaction to a player leaving is akin to their reaction when they get dumped by a girlfriend/boyfriend. No amount of sensible and justifiable reasoning will suppress their devastation at such a heartless betrayal. They start crying and whining and throwing spiteful insults like love-sick teenagers. Grow up!

Alpine you've had a f**king 'mare here mush. Wind your neck in there's a good chap.

Whilst some players/managers leave under a dark cloud (Pochettino obviously most recently) Rickie Lambert deserves nothing but our absolute gratitude and respect. he deserves his place on the f**king banner and he deserves his place in our history.

Unbelievable.

Still a hero, still a saints legend.

Will miss you Rickie!

A part of my passion for football died this morning, from reading the (inevitable) news. Nigels sacking felt the same, I remember Poch's first game vs Everton for all the wrong reasons... I find it difficult to carry on believing, though I will try to be a Saint and move on.

Good luck Rickie, thanks for everything, top guy by all accounts and for me he was on his way to MLT status.

Against modern football.

It is a sad day, but there will be another one to fill his boots eventually.....and at least he didn't leave for Portsmouth (or worse, Spurs :) )

Always the plan as far as I was aware but Cortese ego wanted more and couldn't stop there. Would make a lot of sense that that's where Nicola and Kat saw it differently when it came to the crunch....

Can't say I'm surprised by the cynical vitriol being passed around (speaks volumes about this site at times), it really hurts to see him go but he goes with my blessing, he's been converted to a Saints fan, gave us 5 great years and will finish his football fairytale living and playing for his hometown. Thought the letter was very dignified and respectful, fill your boots Rickie and like to think you'll get a a cheer when you return to St Marys.

The original five year plan was always to get back into the Prem. We were well ahead of that plan, nothing was ever said about the five years after that as obviously Cortese left before we got to a point where it was relevant (this summer).

Textbook Alpine by numbers.

Whine about lack of affection...

Feel quite sad at the lack of affection he is showing towards the club that gave him his shot at the big time and the chance to get in the England team.

Blue line - move on - ancient history

Hope he enjoys the feel of splinters in his arse and losing his England place.

You mean the usual banal platitudes.

F**k him. Nothing more to do with me now. Looking forward to seeing Uruguay and Italy butt-f**k England in front of the world.

I'll even root for Gashy to score against them.

....clear evidence of affection. ..

....greeted with utter contempt...

Amen. He's treated us disgracefully. F**k him.

Yep. The usual sh*t. Like Southampton if f**king the arse end of the world rather than a few hours up the M6.

Solid Alpine gold.

Rickie owes us nothing - he has performed superbly for the club for 5 seasons and served us with distinction.

Very sad that he has left but I can understand why - It is not unreasonable for him to finish his career with his boyhood club.

Best of luck to him!

Paper talk from the sun.

Brighton striker Leonardo Ulloa is wanted by Southampton to replace Liverpool-bound Rickie Lambert.

top quality replacement for years to come. not quite sure he ticks that box (or any of them)

I couldnt care less at the moment, tbh. I am f**king angry.

When aren't you angry...or whining about something?

Rickie Lambert deserves more respect for what he's done for us (and for the way that he has improved to England stature under our guidance) than you are giving him, wind your neck in and show some class!:x
