When someone wants to leave, they only have year left on their contract and a £2m release clause then there ain't much you can do.

I thought it was pretty shtity to blow out Adkins the way we did, but the line was we had to to push ourselves on, and I think it's pretty shtity the way MoPo has blown us out in order to push himself on. It works both ways.

Disappointed he has left so soon, but the only thing that matters now is who replaces him.

This.

Totally agree.

But for me the disappointment is that the journey we were on as a club with the backroom staff, the playing staff, the manager etc has now come to an end. What will happen from here? Who knows. But I think rats leaving a sinking ship rings to mind...

He can go **** himself as far as I'm concerned. Just another one passing through. Just hope that the board reject any approaches he makes to get our players but don't have a lot of confidence they will have the balls to do so. He needs players to implement his style and it is only natural he will be after some of those important players in our ranks. They had better not let any of our young players follow him to spuds. Funny that the two players shown next to that twitter statement will probably be the next two out the door. But, of the seven clubs finishing above us this season, I would count Spurs as the one least likely to win anything over the coming years so it is not much of a step up. Let's see him trying to get Emmanuel Adebayor and the like to press the opposition throughout 90 minutes. I'll take next March in the sacking sweepstakes.

I couldnt give a f**k about Mopo. He'll be unemployed by New Year anyway, his professional reputation again in tatters after the Espanyol debacle. F**k him.

I care more about what it tells us in regard to the quality of people we have running the show at SMS.

"my priority now is to bring some stability and calm to the workings of the club

I am absolutely committed to ensuring that the club continues this success. I have met our manager Mauricio Pochettino and have given him my complete support to build on the good work that has already been achieved

Finally, let me say this. I will ensure that all decisions made about the future of the club will be in the best interests of its staff, players, management and fans"

Anyone still believe this ****?

Perhaps accepting the resignation of someone who doesn't want to stay here is in the best interests of the club....

The most vapid, assinine business management school undergraduate drivel I have ever had the misfortune to read in relation to Saints.

Even Lowe put together a better statement than that.

We are in serious sh*t with this clueless bell-end at the helm.

:lol::lol::lol:

He isn't that bad. Anyway, Southampton Saints has a good ring to it.

Funnily enough, I'm not as disappointed at Pochettino leaving as I was when Adkins was sacked. For some reason, I'm quite optimistic that this won't work out so badly for us. We might even finish next season above Spurs. Now, that would be funny.

Wait until we get a Veho-scale appointment to manager. I am going for Mick Wadsworth.

Liebherr-Cortese vision is completely gone, imho.

Like I said in the other thread. If he doesn't want to be here then fine. But I would like to know why he would not want to be here any longer? What did he and the board discuss? It is easy to criticise him but I tend to think he was not given assurances his team would not be broken up. Would not be getting funds to push on from here. No doubt it will become clear in time but if our ambitions do not match then I don't blame him for going. Every single one of us would have done the same thing.

He used us and then cast us aside. I hope he fails miserably at Spurs. The rumour now is that he wants to take Lallana and Rodriguez with him. He is what I always thought - a bit of a ****.

One man's high calibre isn't the same as another's

Exactly, some think Redknapp is high calibre, The way this has come about when everyone knew he was off and the extended dragging out of contract talks and lies from the club was farcical, I have no faith that ralph has any clue in football and will appoint a worthy replacement, we'll probably have an ice hockey manager too!

Not surprising, I broke news of the deal a few weeks ago. Anyway, **** him, never really took to him. His lack of loyalty is disappointing, but it's always been there to see He's a good manager, but still overrated. He will be under massive pressure at Spurs, we will see what he's made of when expectations are high. But I would love to see him fail

Posted
He joined with the brutal sacking of Adkins, he left us in a similar fashion

Aye, how can football clubs expect managers to be loyal and committed to the cause when they display so notoriously little of those particular qualities in return?

MP leaving is obviously unsettling for us all, but I've seen so bloody many managers come and go at this club that I just don't bother becoming emotionally attached to them anymore. All I will say is that appointing the next manager is obviously a pressing matter and that I can't understand those opining that David Moyes would not be a good fit here - I can think of no one better suited for this club.

Well, let's just wait and see. We could do with a strong, experienced and steady manager. Hoddle would be ideal.

Its probably a minority opinion, but I can't really blame Pochettino for moving on. He came into the club promised a vision by Cortese; that has since changed. Cortese has moved on and the board are talking about financial consolidation rather than pressing on higher. Spurs will give him an actual chance of breaking the Champions League top 4 rather than staying here and being happy with another top ten finish.

He did very well for us, absolutely no doubt about that, and moved us onwards and upwards from the superb groundwork that Adkins put in. That said, Pochettino also inherited an excellent bunch of players. The challenge now will be recruiting a decent manager and stopping the floodgates from opening. Though I'm not sure where I stand on believing we'll achieve either of those two things.

Anyway; cheers for the memories but I can't send too many best wishes.

It's not that Poch has gone; It's the hope that's gone. With poch in charge we might, just might have kept some of our top players. Really can't see that now unless we really go for it with a top class man. So I reckon we either try and steal De Boer (premier league is a big pull and it's not likely he'll get a top job just yet...) or, and this is my preference, we convince Gary Neville to start his pre-Man U management days with us. If GN took the job he has the ear of our England boys and a huge personality that could really pull us together. I realise he has no management experience but he clearly knows his stuff...

Posted

Never really warmed to him. I remain an Adkins man through and through ;) He never really seemed overly connected to the club and I'll go ahead and echo others sentiments saying that we were nothing more than a stepping stone.

I'm excited to see who we'll appoint! Terrified it'll be someone like Mackay or Lennon...

Some cracking stuff on here - all good fun!

I'm as bummed by ponch leaving as the next guy, but this thread has deffo cheered me up with some genuine LOLs. Hats off all round!

Agreed, I think GN would be an inspired appointment. Would be difficult though with the WC and would he want to come South?

The bed wetting soars to unexplored heights...

But thankfully you remain safe and dry alone in your ivory tower… tool. People are understandably ****ed off or upset for many different reasons, man up and admit you are too.

Did he ever refer to us as 'we'? He's said 'we' a couple times in his Spurs statement already.

Only Spanish speakers would know that.... Has he started speaking English now that he is with Spurs?

I remember Adkins first Reading interview - thanked Southampton and the Fans. Nothing from Poch, although apparently he has written an open letter to the fans ...

Can't blame him for leaving. Think he's made a fairly poor choice as not sure he is walking into the best conditions for success at Tottenham.

He did an excellent job, lets see if we can quickly replace and move on.

Makes me wonder if this did all kick off when NC went - was that the beginning of the end?

My guess is: yes.

Anyway, the good news is if we meet the North London Yobbos in the cup they'll be fielding a weakened team.

So the the Spuds get a manager who can't be asked about the FA Cup and didn't want the Europa League.....err good luck with that then you ungrateful git..oh and by the way "the Malvinas" my ar*e, they are called the "Falkland Islands"

Posted
would anyone take moyes?

Probably yes. There are worse options.

We need someone to build in the same mould as NA and MP. What terrifies me is we'll get a left-field appointment by a board not best equipped with football knowledge, like the Dutch experiment.

Posted

meh.

he clearly used us as a stepping stone... as long as we get a decent manager it might be alright.

I fear 2003 all over again- fingers crossed.

betrayed would be an understatement tbh, but that is life.

no matter what happens in the summer, no matter who leaves, i will support southampton fc, not poch fc or lallana fc.

Not much you can do when the club have offered him a better deal, he chose to move, so be it.

Best test now is to see who else goes (Lallana + Fonte) and get someone proven(!) in. Remember the uproar when he was brought it in? While the results with him were good this season, lets not forget it was the players out there who got them.
