70's Mike Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 went on a whim, wish i hadn't ****ing bothered, the worst £15 i have ever spent and the worst saints performance i have ever seen. ...still, at least I didnt have to go shopping with the wife which was the original plan... bet there were stronger tackles and shoulder charges in West Quay than at SMS by a saints player , i know it is meant to be a beautiful game but no tackling is now being coached at SMS
Papa Shango Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Jan has to go, he is one dimensional and does he not realise that his "young" team were brought up under George Prost who played them as a very successful 4-4-2, players are playing out of position in a 5-47590239853290 or what ever it is each week, please please please bring back Nigel Pearson at least the players had some fight and passion under him and knew what position they were playing!!! Sadly Pearson won't be coming back. I said at the time when we got rid of him that it would be one of the biggest mistakes we would ever make and I stand by that.
ottery st mary Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I am all for giving people time, but this is the last straw for me I am afraid. Jan Poortvliet was the wrong appointment, at the wrong time; appointed by a man with a track record of poor decisions and the drastically misguided belief that he "always knows better" than anyone else. We had a very able young manager in Nigel Pearson (note readers, Leicester won 4-0 today to cement their place at the top of League 1), some promising youngsters who could have been brought through in a considered and sensible way, without over-pressurisinng them, and some seasoned pro's who could help their progression. We could easily have cut costs etc. but have retained Pearson and the hub of a half-decent side. But oh no, it was time for another moment of 'genius' by the leader of the board... If anyone else was Chairman I'd want them to ACT NOW, end this bizarre experiment with lower league Dutch coaches, and appoint someone with experience. But of course our Chairman is Rupert Lowe (I'm ignoring the monkey that is the SFC Chairman, and focussing on the organ-grinder here) so (a) he won't do anything to stop the rot, as that will entail admitting he was wrong, something he is unable to to - even if for the good of the club; and (b) who the **** would trust him to make a sensible appointment anyway?? Today was a must win game. We LOST. The manager must carry the can for our inability to win at home. Can you imagine any other club with a home record of just one win all season retaining the services of their manager? We are in very grave danger of slipping into the third tier of english football. Read that sentence again, and think about it. If you are reading this, you think about it too Mr. Lowe. Do you just sit idly by, continuing to watch us fall apart, or do you take action NOW to try and stop the rot? In honesty, I have absolutely no faith in you whatsoever to do the right thing, and my AGM ballot-card illustrated this fact, but against logic, I do cling to the remote hope that you will take counsel from those around you and do something to help save our Saints while there is still time... I think, no, I know nearly all fans, mirror your thoughts 100% A very sad day.
jim_bergerac Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I feel for the fans who were at the game. I am utterly devastated but it must be even worse for those who were put through that. Not much of a consoloation but at least Donny and Charlton did not win

Norm Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Sorry, but I left as we went 2-0 down:( That was as bad as I've seen in years:smt078 As I travelled down on the bus to the game, I made a comment to another supporter, that we had been in worse situation before and survived. Well, after today, I really don't think we can or will. We could have lost by 5 goals today, please don't tell me otherwise! To start a HOME game with ONE upfront, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were outplayed and outfought today. I will not be going to the Cup game.

Window Cleaner Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I've just heard him admit that he doesn't know what to do regarding where the goals are going to come from. . But he's right though isn't he, as I keep on saying we have nobody who can score or is even likely to score. We've tried everybody,McG,John,Patterson,BWP,Pekhart,Robertson but they just can't f**king well put the ball in the net on a consistent basis. We're shooting from 25 yards and putting it over the bar or just hitting dollydroppers to the keeper. It's not the system that's at fault it's the players operating it. Why do we keep changing our back 4? It should be Cork,Perry Pearce,Skacel. Not great but that's it. If Morgan is missing in midfield he should be replaced by Gasmi or Thompson or Gillett. Cork should stay in the back 4. We got stitched up by the nordic mythology that is Svensson but that's no real excuse. We have too many incompetent players that's it and all about it. It's not just the younger ones either.Euell,BWP are as much to blame as the others, only thing is it costs more to see them not perform..

sotonjoe Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 A disappointing result and, perhaps most disappointingly, a poor performance. Compared to the home display against Wednesday, the side we put out today were sloppy in possession, lacked the desire to get to the ball first or do anything purposeful with it and also resorted to direct (long?) balls on occasions. I was shocked by Euell and McGoldrick. However, the biggest disappointment was probably the mass imbecilic behaviour exhibited by the sooper fans today. They waved their season tickets and chanted "you're only here for united". They booed and jeered at McGoldrick whilst he was still on the pitch. They chanted for their own chosen formation, hurled the usual abuse at Rupert Lowe. Then they left early like everyone else. The frustration is sending us all loopy, but what did we really expect was going to happen this season. We've no money for a manger or players. It's so bad that we;ve shipped out our 'best' players on loan just to get them off the wage bill. Inevitably, we will struggle but is a lynching really necessary?
Halo Stickman Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 We had a very able young manager in Nigel Pearson (note readers, Leicester won 4-0 today to cement their place at the top of League 1), some promising youngsters who could have been brought through in a considered and sensible way, without over-pressurisinng them, and some seasoned pro's who could help their progression. We could easily have cut costs etc. but have retained Pearson and the hub of a half-decent side. But oh no, it was time for another moment of 'genius' by the leader of the board... Totally agree, SW11_Saint. I firmly believe that if we'd done this, some of our youngsters would have been much more likely to have fulfilled their potential. Now the more promising ones have being dragged down to the level of those that aren't ready for first team football, and their tranfer value to the club is being eroded with every passing week. It's false economy on a grand scale, and yet another example of gross mismanagement.
eelpie Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 It's not the system that's at fault it's the players operating it. The system has failed. Lowe despatched our better players when he took over. Pearson worked a system that best suited their abilities. That is what managers and coaches do. We ain't doing that now. Lowe out!
Saint_Jonny Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 absolute garbage AGAIN today, but what else did we expect to be honest. Jan has obviously run out of ideas. I dont dislike him, i just think hes crap. So thats the football stuff out of the way... At 1-0 down and a way back into it, I thought the northam today was TOTAL SH1T. Waving your season tickets around like your some sort of supirior beings, your no better than the other 24k that were there today. Instead of TRYING to sing the lads up you mocked OTHER saints fans. I felt like I was surrounded by a bunch of retards. And booing McGoldrick (hes crap i know) - still just wrong. Im just as ****ed off at you lot as I am the team. ******s.
um pahars Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 he should be replaced by Gasmi .. Did you see him play today????
LGTL Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 JP has to go, but he is Lowe's man and so of course won't be sacked. He also stated on post match interview that there is no chance of changing to 4-4-2, as "it would make no difference". Nice one Jan. As for the game, I don't wan't to talk about it.

If they can't have fun watching the game, then they'll make their own fun. Give them a decent distraction on the green stuff, and they'll start shouting in the right direction. Season ticket holders are entitled to demand. They put their money where their mouths are. They've seen far better times, and remember them well. I bet a fair few ticket holders left the game early today for the first time ever.
eelpie Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 When anyone says we play attacking and exciting football, I will refer them to this game. When anyone mentions Total Football, I will refer them to this game. When anyone says we are making progress, I will refer them to this game. Make no mistake, this was no fluke result, this was no one off poor performance or a bolt out of the blue, this was plainly total and utter rubbish. Another one dimensional set up which was not delivering. Some of these players aren't that bad, but the way we set up and the way we were playing is just appalling!!!!! Davis - 6 - Three very good saves that kept the score down. James - 3 - Offered nothing. Perry - 5 - Tried his best, but was surrounded by players not performing. Pearce - 2 - Looked nervous and always suspect. Skacel - 5 - Tried his best, but eventually gave up Euell - 5 - He is not a right winger, HE IS NOT A RIGHT WINGER Surman - 4 - Overrun by Forest's midfield Cork - 4 - Overrun by Forest' midfield Holmes - 5 - Tried his best, btu the very fact we were one dimensional and trying to play everything through him meant he was oon snuffed out. Lallana - 5 - So skilful and silky, but Forest had him sussed and kept him from hurting them. McGoldrick - 0 (zero) - A waste of a shirt. Subs : Wright Phillips - 5 - Tried his best, but back to normal Gasmi - -5 (minus 5) - made Ali Dia look good. Didn't have a clue, did not look as though he knew where he was playing or what he was doing. So right! The time has come for The Messiah

Thedelldays Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Wow, so we dont see that sort of piissing contest just on here then. Truly pathetic......... indeed... I have said many times over the years..the vocal minority who are always right really let the club down at times....and this seems to be another example...
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Jan is being interviewed on Radio Hampshire now. I feel very sorry for him, because I believe he does know what he's doing, but he's being handcuffed by the finances, and the players at his disposal. But he wants to impose a system on players who don't seem to know how to play as a team, the way he wants them to. I've just heard him admit that he doesn't know what to do regarding where the goals are going to come from. For me, that's enough. As a manager, you should never not know what to do. But if Poortvliet has to go, then Rupert and Co has to go too. Have to agree with you:( Rupert is not listening and he will not. Rupert knows best. :smt044

Leicestersaint Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 The statistics say we had just TWO shots on target all match - frankly that is scandalous. Do they ever practise shooting? These are supposed to be professional footballers so they should at least get 8 or 10 shots on target during the match.
Wade Garrett Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I actually went today, broke my self-imposed boycott, and thought I would give them a chance. Won't be going again. Says it all really. Team and management out of their depth. Boardroom in turmoil. Sh*te afternoon.

If anybody thinks that any of those actions I referred to actually helps the team, they're lunatics ... especially when we're fielding eleven youngsters compared to eleven old heads etc. If these people recognise they behaviour doesn't help, but they advocate their decisions to do it by saying they're letting off steam etc, they need to take a deep breath and hold it in for the rest of the ninety minutes. The atmosphere in the northam during the second half today was poo and it was all because of the actions i referred to above ... that's why I left early.

Topcat Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 The problem with removing Jan is that the Chairman with the worst track record in appointing Managers will decide who is Jan's replacement. Will Barclays finally act and tell the Lowe consortium that Lowe has to go?

Cabrone Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Just noticed that Nigel Pearson's Leicester thumped Peterborough 4-0 this afternoon to go 4 points clear at the top of div 1. He was our bloody manager until Mr Lowe had one of his regular brain farts. Lowe must go, he is destroying us. That's why I'm going to keep on applying the financial tourniquet ; I won't back Lowe to kill this club.
StuRomseySaint Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Why shouldn't STH's mock the plastics? I spent most of the 2nd half doing so. ( and if that mong who thought he could offer out the Northam at the end of the game when walking out is watching, you are a c*nt and hopefully you won't be back again ) At the end of the day, if we had crowds like that every week, we would have money to spend and not be going broke. BotleySaint Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 If we continue to current run, with manager and players, then we won't just be relegated.. we'll finish bottom of the Championship.
St Marco Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Few pics i took, sorry wasen't really much to capture from us in terms of positives Just before their goal Surmans body language speaks volumes Gasmi diving to try and get a free kick Well what can i say that hasen't already. Worst performance of the season and the players and manager should feel ****ing ashamed. If any of us performed like that in our jobs we would be sacked. Had no passion, no desire to go forward, played like strangers, played more long balls to nobody then i care to remember, couldn't be bothered to close people down and so on and so on. Anyone thinking we play good football must be severely gone in the head. It is awful, truely awful. I have watched pretty much every game we have played in the past 15 years and this manager is the most clueless i have ever known. He fails so spectaculary that i wonder how on earth he managed to con UEFA into giving him a licence, their should be laws against it. He will not be sacked because it will be like Lowe admiting he was wrong and he wont resign because this is his big chance. I am more cetain now then i have been at any other time if things are not changed we will go down. We are now 4 points from the team above us and 6 points from the team above that. Forest are on a run and will probably leap frog us midweek. The only positive is Doncaster and Charlton continue to lose with us. The players look lost, looklike they don't care and Jan sounds like a broken record failing to accept any blame for any of our displays but taking all the praise when that is given. Which now means 24 games and 12 loses. 1 win from 12 home games and 1 win in our last 9 games etc.. etc.. We have lost 50% of our games. Won under 10% of our games. Each game is vital now to our survival and we will not survive playing like we are. We will run out of games. I fail to believe that having Jan and all his 6 dutch coaches, Gasmi,Pulis,Robertson,Peckhart,Smith,Forecast,Wotten,Holmes etc.. etc... cost LESS then what it would of cost to keep any of our strikers out on loan or Pearson. Total Football? Total ****ing disgrace from top to bottom. The only player i feel can hold his head up is once again Davis. He made at least 2 more classic saves and the 1 on 1 was amazing. Without him we would of been dead and burried.
Toomer Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 In the 40 years plus I have supported Saints 22 as a ST holder, today was the first time I have left before the end for football reasons. We have seen some poor performances over the last few years and today has got to go down as one of the worst. McGoldick is not fit to wear the shirt was at fault for the Forest first goal he was like a statue, did not mark or pick up anyone. We have got a Manager in JP who is inept not a clue about the English game, get rid Paul Ince is available and he would do a good job at this level. The football being served up is as bad as the Branfoot days, at least he got us to Wembley in the ZDS cup. The way I feel at the moment, I feel like saying feck it why should I bother but I will, not like all the plastics that came as a way to get a ticket for the UTD game. Two chants that made me smile, only here for UTD and stand up if your here each week.
Whitey Grandad Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 That was absolutley the most disorganised, gutless, spiritless uninterested load of doggy-doos that it has been my misfortune to witness this season, and I've seen a lot already. McGormless was a liability, a complete waste of space, Holmes was nowhere near fit, puffing and panting after 30 minutes. The rest of them, with a couple of notable exceptions - Cork, Davis, Skacel - had no idea where they should be playing, there was no shape to the team, no power, no desire, Forest were winning all the tackles. We had no shots on target. This clown of a manager has to go now and he should take his chairman with him.
badgerx16 Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 especially when we're fielding eleven youngsters compared to eleven old heads Davis, Perry, Skacel, Euell :confused::confused:
