Saint-Armstrong Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 Jay was just speaking to Adrian Durham on DriveTime, nothing earth-shattering but worth filing away in the forum... Jay Rodriguez: "It'd be amazing for us to keep the squad that we've got. We've had an amazing season. To go forward we need to." "We don't really know anything at the minute, it's speculation." "There's always going to be speculation at Southampton. At the moment I'm focused on my rehab." "He's unbelievable. Every lad in the team will say what a great manager and a great guy he is." "Obviously I'd be very sad if the manager did go. But it's all speculation and all up in the air at the moment." "It was a shock to see Nicola go. He did brilliantly. Full credit to the lads & staff since we remained focused." "I want to aim as high as I can & work as hard as I can to improve. Hopefully I can make that (EURO2016) happen." "I think it's all about the opportunity that Southampton gives to youngsters. If they're good enough, what does their age matter?" "The academy is a credit to Southampton. It's strange that not every club does it like that."
The Saint Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 Wait for Alpine.... He'll be along in a minute to use this interview as another stick to beat our club with..... FWIW I've been loving very minute of the last few seasons. And it's great to hear one of our better players being so positive.
Ohio Saint Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 He didn't seem particularly committed about his own prospects regarding his own possible change of clubs. Having said that, he seemed pretty down in the dumps to me because of his injury situation. Poor lad. I couldn't help feeling sorry for him. Re the above post. Positive? Yeah, but it was very tempered and hard work for him IMO
Turkish Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 I really feel sorry for him. Seems like. Genuinely decent lad who was hitting form at the right time to make the World Cup, he may not have gone but to have the chance ripped away by a freak injury is such a shame for him. Hope for his sake he make a full recovery.
Killers Knee Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 Sounds like he's another player whose level of expectation with regards to the board is waiting to be met. I get the feeling manager and players are tightening the screws on the board to make them commit to another project. If we consolidate then they'll all be off asap. Yeah, but it was very tempered and hard work for him IMO Unsurprising, must really have fancied his chances of making the WC squad, in 4 years who knows, we might well have sunk back into obscurity by then and not be the be all and end all of England team selection. I noticed that Morgan told the french press yesterday that Mauricio has made him a completely different player.

The Saint Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 Ohio... Ok thanks, didn't hear it, just reading the OP. If I was J Rod, I think I'd be as depressed as hell. Saint Charlie Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 We have also ****ed up his contract. He won't sign a new one now so we will have to sell next summer before he runs it down and leaves on a free. People will say thats doom-mongering, but its the truth. No, that's doom-mongering, as with the majority of your posts! I can tell you that Jay's contract is a work in progress and every intention to be sorted - one bit of good news! Saint Charlie Posted 20 May, 2014 Share Posted 20 May, 2014 does his contract not end in June 2016 then ? It does. But he won't be back til late '14 early '15 and then with an Eng Intl at a good age he will attract attention and be worth less because he would only have a year left on his deal. Of course if he signs another then great. Would be a big boost.

The fact it's silent doesn't mean nothing is going on, by the way. So just take a break for a few weeks....enjoy the W/C and come back to our NPC level squad in august.
