SNSUN Posted 19 May, 2014 Share Posted 19 May, 2014 Ha! It's a good appointment, one that should've been made last summer. Moyes is like Pochettino in they've both won nothing but bigger clubs want them, always a risky appointment. Following Sir Alex they needed someone experienced to fill the void, even if only for the short term. Van Gaal is onto a winner too, as all he has to do is restore Utd to the Champions League in 2015 and his appointment will be regarded as a success. And they have the financial firepower and brand name to do that, irrespective of the fact players may be turned off joining Utd as they won't be getting European football next year. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 19 May, 2014 Share Posted 19 May, 2014 Yeah, everyone has known it's been done for a while really. It's the least surprising news for a while, hardly any point in announcing it really. I agree, it's almost swung from being one of the hardest jobs (following Sir Alex) to one of the easiest (following Moyes). It will actually be hard to do much worse than this season. They've clearly got the financial clout to do a serious rebuild, which is generally accepted to be what they need. I don't think the one season will out of Europe will hurt them too much in terms of recruitment (I certainly do not believe Europa vs no Europa will make any difference at all), but a second could see a tail off. That said, a worrying sign is how many players were willing to snub them last season. Maybe it was Moyes, they need to hope LVG's reputation can help change that tide, as that could be of concern in the future.
