scotty Posted 19 May, 2014 Share Posted 19 May, 2014 Does anybody have any ideas about adding to the pressure on the US Coastguards to resume this search? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27465639 The lad in question is the son of my neighbour's best mate. Anything anyone here can think of to get the search resumed would be welcomed. Also, if anyone would like to email their MP, that would also be useful. scotty Posted 19 May, 2014 Author Share Posted 19 May, 2014 There is now a petition to William Hague, please sign it. Only needs another 2000 signatures. http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/u-s-coastguard-restart-the-search-for-the-missing-cheeki-rafiki-crew-members

jjsaint Posted 19 May, 2014 Share Posted 19 May, 2014 Signed. I rarely sign these petitions but I signed this one. If there's any chance of finding these men then it's negligence to call off the search.
scotty Posted 19 May, 2014 Author Share Posted 19 May, 2014 Signed. I rarely sign these petitions but I signed this one. If there's any chance of finding these men then it's negligence to call off the search. Thanks jj. The petition is very close now to reaching it's target, but time is pressing, not just because of the petition cut-off point, but how long these lads are going to survive. Please, Saintsweb, get everyone you can to sign it asap, he is a local lad and abandoned in the Atlantic. http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/u-s-coastguard-restart-the-search-for-the-missing-cheeki-rafiki-crew-members

scotty Posted 22 May, 2014 Author Share Posted 22 May, 2014 Debris just found by a catamaran, which will hopefully give a clue to the position of the liferaft. The families have asked that people continue to sign the petition, even though the search has been resumed.
skintsaint Posted 24 May, 2014 Share Posted 24 May, 2014 The Coast Guard said the yacht's life raft had not been deployed and was still in its storage space.
rallyboy Posted 24 May, 2014 Share Posted 24 May, 2014 That's a blow. They sounded like experienced guys who could survive with the raft. While the recovery of the yacht may answer some questions it's a sad end to the search.
SNSUN Posted 24 May, 2014 Share Posted 24 May, 2014 Huge shame they hadn't had time to deploy the life raft. With the storms they had to put up with they didn't stand a chance. RIP to all the sailors, and huge condolances to Scotty's next door neighbour's best mate and the families and friends involved.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 24 May, 2014 Share Posted 24 May, 2014 Huge shame they hadn't had time to deploy the life raft. With the storms they had to put up with they didn't stand a chance. RIP to all the sailors, and huge condolances to Scotty's next door neighbour's best mate and the families and friends involved. The way that the family conducted themselves reflected incredibly well on them. A very sad story.
scotty Posted 24 May, 2014 Author Share Posted 24 May, 2014 Thanks, everyone. As Sergei says, regardless of the tragic outcome, the families involved can at least take heart from the knowledge that there is absolutely nothing more that they could possibly have done. They moved two governments, and mobilised one of the largest searches imaginable.
manji Posted 24 May, 2014 Share Posted 24 May, 2014 Those yachties chose to go on a reckless trip. Then the families have the audacity to insist on an expensive and fruitless search just to make themselves feel better. It reminds me of all those poor sherpas who have died so thrill seekers with too much money and time on their hands can say they "climbed" Everest.
