I'm not sure why I'm indulging you, but certain of us have mates who dine at the top table. Believe what you want mate.

You forget the only dining at the top table Brett does is taking the captain his sausages.

Given how much money has been spent I'm quite surprised how bland the interiors are and evidence of not quite finishing to a high standard (eg no plastering on the fitness room walls). Inside it looks more modern 4* hotel than £30m worth.

Looks pretty sweet to me. And bear in mind that that figure includes the pitches at considerable expense and the training dome (also at considerable expense). I bet you that the building was about 50% of the cost if not less. The pitches would probably surprise us by how much they cost. But yeah the building isn't the only thing they've built (see the aerial mockup earlier in the thread).

Yep its fine - beautiful on the outside and obviously a big upgrade on what we had. I guess I just expected more 'wow' to the interior given the price tag.

it's still not 100% finished they don't hand the building over until the 1st July 2014 so there will be work on until that date and then also continual "snagging" work to be completed.

Any news on the stadium expansion? Can't help thinking a show of intent there would make players and manager think twice about leaving.

St Mary's is actually going to be resized smaller to reflect Season Ticket Sales.

Sorry, but I have to say that does look like a torture chamber. Is that room 101 through the black door?

And what is with the tipsy logo?

Or is it me? - had a few drinks today

  • 1 month later...

I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that the next stage of the expansion of Staplewood is well under way.

The 2 fields between the current boundary and Twiggs Lane are being cleared and levelled for the new training pitches.

Doesn't seem like the actions of someone who's looking to asset strip.

Looking good, Staplewood now stretches from Staplewood Lane to Twiggs Lane in length, huge area and certainly being done for the long term.

That's our bread and butter which is why I'm not keen on borrowing two of arsenals and tuning them up for them.

Not such a stupid idea. Well worth taking a long hard look at what could be done. The Academy could provide work shops of various length where other clubs send their potential young stars and pay large sums which will provide the finance and support the further development. These young stars could provide our own young potential lads with class opponents in training matches.

Employing the likes of Glenn Hoddle and other former top managers and coaches could lead our Academy to become the top training facility in the world.

If it's a success we won't even need a first team.
