WealdSaint Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Interesting indeed. With Levy's record of an itchy trigger finger you would wonder if MoPo (or any well established manager at a biggish club) would really fancy it?

Saint_Tony Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 So it is relevant then ? ;-) No not at all, seems a strange post. MP has never been linked with the Spurs job, whilst there have been lots of rumours that he is going to sign a new contract with us this week. We are keeping all of our players an he is being given £60 million to spend on new players. No chance whatsoever that he will go to Spurs
doddisalegend Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Personally think this is why Mopo won't sign a new contract his been hanging on for a crack at the Spurs job. Once there he can probabaly tempt away some of our best players as well.

SuperSAINT Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Harsh on Sherwood. Why would MoPo go to a club that treats their managers like this? ££'s and a desire to go for top 4.
Sheaf Saint Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 I just can't see it. If MP leaves for a bigger club it will be one that is already in the CL next season. He clearly doesn't want to be in the Europa League otherwise he would have tried much harder to get there with us instead of putting out a severely weakened team in the cups. Add to that he is much more suited to a club like ours with a strong emphasis on youth development rather than a club like Spurs who will spend big and then sack the manager when it inevitably backfires on them. It doesn't make any sense to me, but then PL football exists in its own universe where sense and sanity are irrelevant. So I expect an announcement soon then. With Levy's record of an itchy trigger finger you would wonder if MoPo (or any well established manager at a biggish club) would really fancy it? It's interesting Spurs' wording, "We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option" used to distinguish it from yet another sacking. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Today's sacking should be the very reason MoPo should steer clear. The best win % of any Spurs boss in the Prem and he gets the sack.
saint1977 Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Sherwood...best win % in Spurs history in his short stay = sacked. Mental. Hmmm, didn't know that, perhaps Sherwood should be higher up our shortlist than I first thought. Koeman is still my overwhelming first choice, as I posted on the other thread. Hate to say it, but MP looks to be on his bike. Club need to activate their plan B here straight away and get talking to candidates, the speculation from NC's tabloid hired guns will be 100% worse than even now if there is a vacuum in the manager's chair for weeks. Olallana Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 This talk about MP not wanting Europa League is a non-factor for the Spurs job. They actually have a squad that could cope with it, we dont. Their "failed" season in the league is more down to not having performed to their standard rather than distraction of Europa League games.

Certainly pro youth & has been behind alliance with Swindon to get their players a chance at a club playing the right way. So a good fit.

Sherwood is a Clown. Pochettino isn't. He will do a miles better overall job than Sherwood did over a longer period of time, and with a squad that respect him rather than hate the Manager as they do with Sherwood. Pochettino will not care how they treated Sherwood because he knows he will do better.

Golden Balls Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Really can't see him going there. Not because he doesn't want to. But I think Spurs have at least 2 other managers in mind before him. De Boer says he wants to manage in the PL. They want him. If not, Rafa loves the PL and his family still live over here. And a curve ball. What about Laudrup? He's free and suits what Spurs are after.
Ken Tone Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Still don't understand why spurs would be a very attractive job for MP. Yes they are a bigger club than us, but not so much bigger. Lighthouse Posted 13 May, 2014 Share Posted 13 May, 2014 Is the Spurs job really that attractive? Cue derisory responses of, 'OMG the mong board know it alls honestly believe we are bigger than Spurs' but what can they offer that we can't? They don't have silly money to chuck at transfers and wont be in the Champions League. We already know Mopo couldn't give two sh*ts about the Europa League and Spurs have a history of dressing room disharmony and managerial sackings. Trying to put a neutral perspective as possible on things, I still can't see the point in going to Spurs. Money would be the only real motivation but we aren't exactly cheap skates these days. I'd hazard a guess that that's the order the Spurs fans would choose to have their managerial candidates. Benitez has a good track record, and knows the English game inside out. Then de Boer, who has won titles repeatedly with Ajax and would probably have good contacts for transfers, and finally Pochettino, who plays lovely football and can bring out the best in their youth, but so far hasn't won anything, and isn't even in sole control of the transfer dealings at Southampton. Not that it will make a blind bit of difference if Levy's mind is made up. I wonder where Sherwood will end up...

Really down to two if you look at the betting. MP is favourite .. best price 6/4 and down to evens with some, de Boer is second favourite .. best price 3/1 but around 5/2 with most. Rafa not really in it and 14/1 available, similar to Moyes and other long shots.
