Who do you want as manager?

  1. 1. Who do you want as manager?

Imagine a few years ago if someone told you Ronald Koeman would be Saints manager. Ridiculous. Whatever ambivalence people have about his record, the Dutch league etc., there can be little doubt this boosts the club's profile and will attract a lot of interest. Spend some decent money and it's clear we're not just the little club that's lost its players and given up.

I agree with that but I worry about the amount of change that will happen in just one summer:

1. Losing your Manager and coaching staff (no continuity at First Team level at all)

2. The first transfer window for the new Board (and Les Reed) to get stuck into

3. Losing a few of your best players

It's 50/50 whether or not we come out the other side of it in half decent shape. We have a chance to, but I do worry about Les Reed.

Would have a whiff of Swansea summer 2k12 about it. Lost Rodgers, Allen and Sinclair, but recruited Laudrup and Michu and went on to finish 9th and league cup winners.

Perhaps we can now follow Swansea's 2k12 lead rather than being a year behind everything Norwich do...

2010 Norwich promoted to Championship

2011 Southampton promoted to Championship

2011 Norwich promoted to the Prem

2012 Southampton promoted to the Prem

2012 Norwich finish mid table in the Prem

2013 Southampton finish mid table in the Prem

2013 Norwich relegated

2014 Southampton............

it is Rubbish the last thing about Lovren on HRT (Croatian State Media) was that he was contracted to Saints for 3 more years and that his future was down to the club, not him.

It's incredibly spooky actually. Relegated together in the PL back in 05, relegated together to L1 in 09. How closely our futures have been over the last 10-15 years is unreal. I honestly thought we'd banish that one now, but going at this rate we will do well not to follow them!

But Koeman looks a done deal to me, would bring stability and some leadership in a time when we are seriously lacking either. Hope we get it done ASAP so we can try and start a salvage operation! He's experienced enough to handle it, I reckon. I think Losing Shaw, Lallana, Lambert and MP - but keeping the rest and recruiting Koeman would be the best of a bad job....but it needs to happen quick!

Up here in Norwich I am fully aware of how the two clubs fortunes have been closely tied. Like you I am convinced that a high quality manager will make all the difference as I reckon the board will take the right actions but are still wet around the ears and it is a cut throat 'dog eat dog' world in the Premier league !

Koeman or Hoddle would do the job well.

I see that Bet365, BWIN, 32Red, StanJames, Betway, Boylesports and Betdaq have suspended betting on the new boss today. All others have RK shortening and the rest, bar one or two exceptions, are drifting.

I might be reading this wrong but Betfred, BetVictor, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Betfair also seem to have suspended betting.

Shortest odds are now 8\13 for Koemen. Looks nailed on.

As with one of my previous comments I still don't get why Dyche is such short odds (currently 2nd favourite at 9\2 and 4\1). He's been hardly mentioned in the media and on forums.

Good manger tbf, but not currently what we need. The club needs an experienced and high profile manager to bring some leadership and direction back to the table.

Average record at Watford (although I don't know what the circumstances were there). Did well at Burnley.

I agree that the club needs a high profile manager for this appointment.

hes and excellent manager. had a better record at Watford then Rodgers and Mackay, and that's after the team had been stripped of its best players by both of them. All whilst also dealing with a lunatic as chairman/owner

he then went on and done what we all know with burnley (in style), when I don't remember too many people tipping them for promotion

now, whether he would be right for us, I don't know. But there is little to put down about his career so far that's for sure

Koeman is a big name manager who has managed at big clubs. He also has a pretty good record with young players. Feyenoord we're sorry to see him go. We should be pinching ouselves.

Welcome Pierre. Would be great to get your thoughts on Koeman, his strengths and weaknesses as a manager, why it's worked at Feyenoord but not at other clubs?

worked at Feyenoord but not at other clubs???

Ajax: He won the league twice + 2 cup wins

Benfica: He won the Portuguese SuperCup

PSV: He won the league

Valencia: He won the Copa del Rey

AZ: He won the Dutch Super Cup

He was chased out of Valencia with the proverbial pitchfork- almost relegated a heavyweight that was near the top of the league. You might be a sucker for cups Glasgow but it was a catastrophic season. He was similarly fired at AZ. You don't think these questions will be raised in an interview? Of course, there maybe perfectly understandable mitigating circumstances.

As such, would like to hear someone's informed thoughts rather than read your cut-and-paste Wiki entries :smug:

Actually excited about the thought of Koeman,on paper he is a massive upgrade on MP,let's hope the board back him financially and we wipe the smirks off every other prem football fans face

Koeman could be great for us inasmuch as he would probably settle any players fears about the club's ambition. Sean Dyche has done wonders at Burnley, was poorly treated by Watford and I think would do a good job but maybe he would not command the respect of our "big" players in the way Koeman could. He might get the Luggy treatment and so, on balance, I really hope we get the Dutchman.

His spell at Valencia was not the best, but lets not make things up. Almost relegated them? they finished 10th

He wasn't the manager when they finished the season, he was sacked in April with them 2 points above the relegation zone.

He was fired after their 5-1 defeat to Bilbao with Valencia two points above the relegation zone. It was the caretaker manager Volo who steadied the ship for the remaining games of the season and steered them to 10th.

Welcome back Glasgow.

We're not always a year behind them:

1974 Norwich relegated from the old division 1

1974 Southampton relegated from the old division 1

2005 Norwich relegated from the premiership

2005 Southampton relegated from the premiership

2009 Norwich relegated from the championship

2009 Southampton relegated from the championship

We dodged one bullet this year. :D
