Nobody is mentioning Clement. Ancelotti's number two, impressive CV. Is the feeling that he needs to prove himself at a smaller club first? Don't know much about his philosophy etc, but doubt it's far attached from Carlo's.

One thing is for certain - we will appoint a manager who can maximise the academy resources we have. The academy play 4-3-3 (or variations of) in every age group which is the philosophy directed by Les Reed (and Cortese) and the reason for changing Adkins in the first place. This rules out quite a few names like Lennon, Sherwood, Moyes. It rules in the likes of Yakin (who has an extremely impressive playing style for anyone that's watched them), Laudrup (although his dismissal at Swansea will virtually guarantee being below Yakin in the pecking order), Koeman, de Boer (although probably thinks he can move to bigger teams than us) & Benitez (doubt he would leave Napoli at this time unless it was for a top top club).

I think the majority of names on the list would attract interest from teams in the bottom 10 but would show a lack of ambition for an 8th placed EPL team looking to move forward. The bottom line is, to move forward we either need better players than we currently have (unlikely) or we need a better manager than Pochettino.

Also remember that Poyet absolutely loathes Southampton - his league victory over us at the Stadium of Light consisted of a half-time rant about why he detested Southampton so much from his time at Brighton! Seems to be a man with a chip on his shoulder.

I'll throw McClaren into the mix as well though for being a very intelligent coach who could fit the long-term vision of this club and impress the directors. I'm sure him and Les Reed must sing off a similar hymn sheet. He is the only candidate I believe could fit the philosophy and also be a good long-term option for the club.

My preferred (realistic) choices: 1) McClaren; 2) Yakin; 3) Koeman; 4) Clement

Good post. Agree with pretty much all of this although my preference would be Koeman first, with Rosler as the wild card.

Win ratios again. In Holland's top flight, with the biggest clubs. I'm not buying it.

But overall he looks promising. Big worry would just be whether he'd stay. No prem experience and short spells at most clubs.

especially as his win ratio at Valencia was none too great. Is he leaving Feynoord then anyway. See Schuster has been given the heave ho at Malaga, that'll take away one decent candidate. Laudrup perhaps.

well, Ralf has just said that the club has been flooded with applications from managers across Europe

HR will have a busy job sending out floods of rejection letters then. Hardly like we need to be sitting waiting for the postman to arrive to sound out if our shortlist candidates are interested.

Amazing to see many on here still thinking we're about to appoint a decent coach such as De Boer or Yukin (would love that to be true). Think more...err...Poyet? That's probably nearer the truth and reflective of the Board's 'ambition'.

I'm guessing you missed yesterday's interview when Yakin confirmed he was interested in the job.

You're correct I did, but have since read much of the interesting stuff on here. Frankly means nothing to be fair - doesn't mean he will be in the running. I have heard Poyet has been at SMS twice before the season ended. The Board knew Mopo was off weeks ago and have been working on a replacement way before now. Would love it to be Yakin, but I'm not expecting his arrival to be honest.

There's nobody that really jumps out at me, but then there hasn't been anyone whose really excited me since Bally came back.

I don't know enough about some of the names on here to comment, but I do think trying to find another in the Poch mould is the wrong approach. Different time, different skill set needed. There's going to be real upheaval this summer and we need somebody who can cope with that and steady the ship. That's why dismissing Moyes is ridiculous. He wouldn't be first choice, but if you want a steady hand he's got to be considered.

I don't know why people are dismissing Gus either, he's a players ,manager and his side play good stuff. People I know who have met him say he's very charismatic, although he maybe a bit too volatile for the present situation.

Not popular and I understand why, but I feel Glenda has unfinished business in English football. He was a great tactician, and his work with his acedemy does show he wants to bring on youngsters. If he's learnt the art of humilty , I wouldn't rule him out.

Laudrap, would be popular with players and short term this is maybe what we need. Just be walking in the changing room he'll inspire respect, although I'd worry about his leaving of Swansea.

If we are going for a rookie, I'd love Gary Neville. If he bought in somebody alongside him, maybe phelan or meulensteen. Even maybe Jamie carraghar would be a good rookie, but do we want another manager who needs an interpreter again?

Overall my main concern is avoiding meltdown and although not popular on here the one man who will ensure that doesn't happen is Moyes. There reluctantly, if you held a gun to my head and made me choose, that'll be my choice. Tomorrow I'll hopefully have a change of heart.

Not sure who I would like. Still feel a bit numb with it all. Those knocking Moyes needs to take a long hard look at themselves. He was offered one of the biggest jobs in the football world. Didn't have a good time but I believe anyone following ferguson would have had the same to deal with. Yes he made mistakes but who hasn't. Remember when Strachan came he was on the back of a rough time. I quite like the manager with something to prove.

Moyes and Strachan! The dream team for insomniacs everywhere. Rather have the Dutch duo, at least they tried to play football.

Problem is that the youth teams play the same way as the firsts. Major upheaval would throw that completely out of whack at all levels of the club, not just the first team.

They don't have to be exactly like Pochettino, but fluid, passing football with attacking full-backs is essential. I am certain the club feels the same way, and that's why we won't see someone like Moyes come in.

This is interesting, at 10:40 Krueger says...

"We feel we can move quite quickly to the next step and have a shortlist presented, very quickly also to the public which managers we are seriously considering."

Just read the bullsh*te that Kruegar's just issued and disgusted that they can't even identity a short list of candidates for replacing Pinnochio. Cortese would have already been on the phone and about to interview his top 5 candidates. What utter waffle Kruegar comes up with. We'll be no nearer choosing a new Manager by the time the World Cup end. An utter shambles since Kruegar was appointed. No wonder Pinnochio jumped ship.

What the hell? You're odd, what did you expect him to say? It made a lot of sense.

People saying Cortese would have done things better need to get a grip. The reason we are where we are is because NC went off the rails. In fact imo he had been going off the rails for quite a while. Yes he threw money around and fans like Alpine just love that but he knew he was steering the ship towards the rocks and in the end I think he even enjoyed the prospect of hitting them.

Would be an unusual move. Cant see any candidates wanting their name released publicly when there is only, say, a one in four chance of getting the job. What club wants to employ other peoples cast offs or have it known their manager applied for another job and got turned down?

We've probably got a Swiss football expert somewhere on here, i'm sure they'll tell you. Going by the statement that Basel made when he left they don't seem unhappy.

we have said that we respect what MP has done, that we grew strongly under him and that we very much tried everything to keep him. does not sound like sour grapes this end either

From Twitter

Gus Poyet has signed a new two-year deal at Sunderland; ends Southampton's interest in him. More @Independent

For which read: "Gus Poyet signs a new two year deal at Sunderland, despite implying he was unhappy there, as he realised no one else is interested in him, particularly not Southampton"

Well, reading through the most recent posts on this thread (http://www.fcbforum.ch/forum/showthread.php?35549-Yakin-raus) it looks like they're not criticising him for a lack of loyalty, although the fans were a bit p!ssed off at only playing one striker. Apparently he was fond of a bit of golf instead of putting in all the hours on the training ground like Poch did as well..!
