Mallagroth Posted 27 June, 2014 Share Posted 27 June, 2014 Liverpool finished the season before in 7th. Newcastle and Leeds are a wee bit bigger than us too but no one is expecting them to win the league. Liverpool hype and propaganda is in full spin. We will see what the new season brings for them. I personally don't think they will get a look in and am feeling probably overly optimistic that we will be competing with them for placement in the table. We complained about our attack because it wasn't good enough for top 6, Liverpool have just bought it from us. Now we have the 'opportunity' to upgrade nearly our entire attack, lets see if the board take it.
View From The Top Posted 27 June, 2014 Share Posted 27 June, 2014 Liverpool told a bigger, richer club to 'fark orf' when Suarez wanted to leave and almost won the league. Plenty of clubs do it. you tell the player no, they sulk a bit, then come the new season be professional and carry on performing as normal. Liverpool told Arsenal to do one. Do you think it will work then Real or Barca come a calling? If you really think we could hold on to players when clubs as big, & big on a worldwide basis as Liverpool or Utd, come a calling then you are seriously deluded. martel Posted 27 June, 2014 Share Posted 27 June, 2014 I really don't believe loyalty exists any more. Sometimes a player will stay for whatever reason ie no one elsewhere will pay them more and then dress it up as loyalty but money talks and even the uber loyal MLT signed for Spurs before his wife pulled the plug. I have to agree with Fitzhugh, the premiership hailed to be the best in the world only serves the top clubs in reality, sure Saints make a lot of money for just being there, but the big clubs financial muscle is now that great we will always be a feeder club, I don't like the fact that money talks but that is the name of the game now, personally I long for the days of clough when he got Forest promoted and won Div one in his first season (did I get that right?), the excitment that brought with them challenging the might of Liverpool, how dare they, to a lesser point I feel thats how Saints are looked at by the bigger clubs, we have an academy second to none, we showed how we could compete with the best in our second season back in the premiership, to that end I also think that is resented by the big clubs and certainly by the media and T.V. Pundits.

captainchris Posted 27 June, 2014 Share Posted 27 June, 2014 I think selling Adam Lallana to Liverpool for £18.75m is Dumb Very poor business. What the hell... Everyone has their price but this does not fall into that category at all. We are so weak...... So how many more will be just let go. ? You can say if they want to go then best to let them but what if every wants out???? Just where do you draw the line ???? For me we have sent out very negative messages to the squad and potential new players. Where is our ambition, where is our will to win. Our two key players have been allowed to leave what the hell? I cannot believe the goings on at our club in the last two months....... We are now in the casino of chance that we don't implode on the pitch next year...... Mystifying that our board are so very weak ....

Personal insults by the way only serve to weaken your argument and are not relevant. So a world record price for LS is cheap? The price we accept in effect buys out the contract, that's the point. Yes they are 'contracted' but, I say again, the might dollar rules. As it happens, I'm a freelancer that works to contracts (I can actually have more than one at once - that would be good in football eh?), and in my business, no-one (and I mean no-one) breaks a contract - it harms your rep and it's your rep that gets you work. It is obviously way different in the footballing world. The message we send is "with our development you too will be worth millions and in a couple or so seasons, you too could be picked by the top clubs - ambition and potential" Long term business. Oh, and "insulting the board by the way only serves to weaken your argument and are not relevant" Touché

FloatingbridgeSaint Posted 27 June, 2014 Share Posted 27 June, 2014 Not fussed at all with either LS or AL going tbh. I recall our first season back in PL wasn't exactly an amazing performance from Adam plus Guan's comments on another thread reference his stats not being overly impressive (can't recall the exact details). A couple of things I am wondering about though; 1. If his medical was this afternoon then why has any announcement been delayed? is it SFC deciding to spread the bad news across several days or are they planning on offsetting the departure with an incoming early next week. 2. Who will be the next club captain? Granted, this probably deserves a thread of its own but if the rumours are true about Lovren & spider leaving then who exactly is going to be our new captain? 3. Are liverpool taking the p*** by going after lovren too? At this rate it is going to be Saints "A" team vs Saints reserves on opening day of season! If the lovren to liverpool rumours are accurate then Reed really needs to slam his foot down. As a side note, on a Liverpool transfer rumours site, when commenting on the anticipated move by AL it was suggested by one of the "Eds" who claim to be itk, that AL was happy to stay provided we reinvested in the squad however something in the last 7 days made him change his mind. Roko also wanted to keep him. It was suggested by those itk, that we are simply on a "balancing the books" exercise currently & have no real interest in pushing forward. He came in to the team in league one when we had nothing, was part of a core of players who took us on a marvellous run culminating in finishing 8th in the EPL and he wants to join a bigger club, on more money, challenge for titles and play in the CL Like every single one of you mongs slagging him wouldn't do exactly the same thing Good luck to Lallana and Lambo and hope they do really well (just not against us)

Lose Morgan and Lovren and avoiding relegation might be the order of the day. Take top class players out of a side and all you have left is mediocrity and at this level that won't win games. Yes the money is there, but signing players that are good enough and hit the ground running is far from easy. Like many others, I've been watching him play for nearly 10 years. From U18, to senior debut, then through the bad times. Seeing him develop from there into a phenomenal player capable of holding his own on the world stage is something I'm glad I witnessed. We have been incredibly lucky as fans to see him play week in week out for a long time and he's provided each and every one of us with some incredible memories and celebrations we will never forget. I don't blame him for leaving, even if I've been a bit miffed at the muddled way he went about it. But I wish him well.

I think your words are commendable, but I think Saints fans will boo and ridicule him for the whole of his career for the arrogant and disloyal way he has gone about leaving. For what it's worth I can't see how he could stay. He burnt bridges, turned arrogant, was seduced by Gerrard, proved Mark Clattenburg was right (despite the club standing up for him), talked outside the club about leaving and broke club loyalty and it would be difficult to see how he could remain captain and would ever play as well again. We are probably better shot of him. But the one think I hate is the embarrassment and loss of pride I feel in seeing Liverpool get their way again. I'd rather have seen him sold to Burnley for a song and an Ings than go to that club. Lovren better go to Europe Les Reed, because if you sell again to Liverpool you're misjudging the mood. You are not alone, I was gutted to see Rickie go. while I am sure both Lallana and Shaw will be missed on the pitch, they will not be missed in our hearts. Like Mauricio Pochettino, I've never felt Shaw was going to stick around. So now he has finally left it doesn't really surprise me. I was shocked to see Rickie go though. I hate Brendan Rodgers for it! If he just sits him on the bench all season and ruins his last few years at the top as a bit part player, when he would have been a big player for us, I'll be p isse d. Lallana has apparently wanted out for some time now. I would say I hope he goes well and thanks for all he has done but quite frankly I don't care what happens to him now. It sounds like he has become a bit of a prima donna. And as far as I am concerned the less of those in our team the better.
