Window Cleaner Posted 21 June, 2014 Share Posted 21 June, 2014 Yes But if it comes from Marca or As then it's probably fairly factual. Obviously they don't get it right all of the time but they have direct access into the top level management at Spanish clubs and don't usually need to make stuff up to sell their rags. Football isn't so secret squirrel outside of the UK.

Alain Perrin Posted 22 June, 2014 Share Posted 22 June, 2014 Even with Suarez, Liverpool's title challenge was based on a great run of 8 or 9 straight victories at the tailend of the season, some which they spawned. With the burden of the CL, I think they'll struggle to make top 4 next year, without Suarez they're midtable. However, I do feel sorry for LFC, it's not fair that Suarez should be unsettled by newspaper reports, they'd never act in that way, would they? What we accept is all about what it would cost us to find a replacement equal to or better than him who would be willing to come here... To ensure we carry on progressing... Same with Shaw. The price is not what he is worth but what we think would allow us to find an equal replacement after, agents fees and sign on and bonuses have been taken care of... If we don't replace with equal or better we go backwards. too many seem to now accept that there is nothing anyone can do, that unless a club spends 200mil, they will never get better than 8/9th and accept players will leave .... Sorry but we can, we can keep them and get them to honour there contracts and invest modestly to build on last years progress. The club just needs to have the balls to do it. MarkSFC Posted 25 June, 2014 Share Posted 25 June, 2014 Some good points FC. I would expand the question of value and make the point that if we sell Lallana it must be for an amount that the club thinks will make us stronger overall, not just to replace AL. If we sold him and for the money got another Lovren, JRod and Gk then the actual figure is almost irrelevant. The point of sport should be wrapped in learning, progression, a sense of achievement within structures that encourage all and favour none. And then there is professional sport, in particular football!! It will take a very strong so called 'smaller club' to buck the PR juggernaut money making machine that is the Premier League. Maybe we could be that club...the next few months will give us a clue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
angelman Posted 25 June, 2014 Share Posted 25 June, 2014 I'm with you FC. Just looking at last season, I can see us winning a fair few more games than we actually did, and while the points haul was our record for a 38 game season, I was slightly disappointed that we threw so many points away, as well as not finishing at least 7th. Maybe we should have had 4 more points from Sunderland, 3 from Spurs away, 3 from Villa at home etc etc. Just those lot come to 10 points and there are others as well. I am not sure whether we were still the team that threw away more points from a winning position or not, but not winning a game having gone behind is a bit concerning. Fans are complicit in what the prem has done to football if are ' accepting' that it's just the way things are... If the club is seen to treat its players poorly when they want to better themselves then new ones will possibly not want to join and younger players may not want long contracts. I have found in life being confrontational is not always the best approach if Adam wants to go I think he should be allowed to go most people reading this board I expect would be ****ed off if their boss made them work when there was a better offer some where else. Of course footballers have signed contracts but that is surely a benefit to SFC because they can get millions when players leave but not much if players had not signed longer contracts but if they are not sold they will eventually leave for nowt How would we get new players in if other clubs adopted your approach I just think it is normal these days for players not to be at clubs for long periods so it is great that we have such a good Academy but you raise an interesting point which I feel is more theoretical than practical Football is a team game we may lose a couple of players and replace them by lesser players but as long as we replace more lesser players with better ones we will progress but I doubt the club has the ability to progress to be a consistent top 6 club but who knows

I can't see how we can change that. Perhaps if the players are brought through from a very young age they might feel more loyal to the club but having agents on their case 24/7 will unsettle. players want to win things and I suspect they will not get much opportunity here. As for agents , they are abig problem, their greed to squeeze every penny out of a players potential is detrimental, IMO so many players lose their way when they start advertising campaigns or promoting products. Their eye is taken off the ball, it seems mad to me that they earn so much and then have to drive up and down motorways to film shampoo ads or the like.
