Baird of the land Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 We need to hold fast and not let Adam dictate anything. If he suddenly thinks he is bigger than the whole team then he needs a lesson and to be made an example of. This is business, you signed a contract, if liverpool dont think you are worth the money we want then tough ****, take it up with them. If what Guan says is true i'd minimum have his captaincy off him then bench him till his head returns to normal size even if it costs us long term. The other players need to be sent a message. Agree unless we get our 30M valuation met then he should go nowhere. Can't have clubs believing they can tap up our players to ensure we accept criminally low fees. If journos are accurately reporting his views then yeah take the captaincy off him and give it to someone who of better character & hope he comes to his senses. Turkish Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 I think he has let himself down, the club down & Saints fans down with his behaviour. Don't get me wrong the board are not blameless, but he signed a 5 year deal. No one put a gun to his head. I am starting to really hate footballers & the money in the game. Might stick to watching my lads play! Me too Ade. The vast majority of them seem to be arrogant, spoilt brats. I guess it was naive to expect our players to be any different but I hopes they would be. I don't think anyone would begrudge him a move to a champions league club but there are ways of going about your business and as someone who had kissed the badge at every opportunity as well as talk about how he would love to finish his career here it's such a shame that one decent season and a couple of England caps seem to have turned him into yet another arrogant ***** who believes their own hype. If there is anything in the stories of course.
deadpanmatt Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 He's got the chance to play Champions League football and make a high profile move- he's excited and wants it to happen. He doesn't hate Saints, it's just one of those things. There may also be some poisonous stuff going on behind the scenes (not unlikely) that he wants to get away from. I was devastated that Lambert went, but these things happen.

St Marco Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 If he has handed in a transfer request then the board need to make a stand. Lallana has been with us for a long time and I am sure we can all respect his wish to play at a bigger club. However he has to respect the fact he only signed a new deal last year, a bumper deal. We are not here to make players dreams come true, we are here to be competitive with the players who are under contract for us. If he throws a hissy fit then let him play in the reserves. Liverpool stood up to Suarez and he still acted professional (even if he did try and re-create something from silence of the lambs). Adam needs to do the same. If we let him go because of his wish to go then it opens up the door for everyone else to leave when they see fit. You can't run a company/club like that. It shows you to be weak. Mowgli Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 Lallana cannot leave - he's not even on the SWF banner yet. Hold the phone. Is this the real reason he's asking to leave....??? If we let him go because of his wish to go then it opens up the door for everyone else to leave when they see fit. You can't run a company/club like that. It shows you to be weak. This is spot on BTW. At worst we should hold on to Shaw and Lallana until January and even then only let one of them go.

positivepete Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 The whole story may come out in due course but one thing remains true, when players from "lesser" clubs go on England duty they are often tapped up by players from "bigger" clubs. Mind you the same was true in the Tyro league, the rep sides were recruiting grounds for the successful clubs!

Seems a real shame how quickly folks are willing to turn on one of their own. Sure Adam may being having doubts, and now wants to try things elsewhere, but lets be honest, with Poch and NC gone, and the 'plan' now unknown, seems quite natural to me... add the temptations of more cash and CL football and you have a combination that would tempt anyone of us if we are honest with oursleves, especially if we also think back to when we were 26 and how we would be. I think its a shame that the club has changed to such a degree that we no longer appeal to him.... and that he does feel he cant be part of whatever is to come.... IF that report is indeed correct. Any conspiracy theorists might just suspect such stuff is planted to make us dislike him and thus not feel so bad about the board selling him - who knows... as too often the ''facts can be used to obscure the truth''

richard Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 Agree - can't remember this amount of bile being directed at many other former players. Even Kenwyne got off relatively lightly. I think the disappointment is so deep because it always seemed like he was a saints fan too, who wouldn't make all the want-away noises currently attributed to him. Thin line between love and hate. I don't know if it's warranted, but it explains why Kenwyne wouldn't get the same level of vitriol.

Mowgli Posted 3 June, 2014 Share Posted 3 June, 2014 The key is there are no quotable sources. Lallana always struck me as a good honest loyal bloke and I'll be gutted if he leaves. Disappointed too as I expect more of him.bafter all those famous quotes when he signed a new contract. Even if he's not impressed by the new board that's hardly justification for throwing your toys out of the pram. He should give it at least six months. That's about as far as my vitriol goes. You may strengthen the squad, but you can only play 11 of them and that 11 will certainly be weaker at left back for starters as we won't sign anyone better than him. I wonder if we will sign any player that is better than our current best 11 (centre forward apart now that Rickie has gone).
