Adam Lallana - Medical at Liverpool

Dr Who?

That offer is fair value.

madness, a current England international, team captain, player of the year, currently one of the most hyped English players,at the prime of his career and on a long contract for less than 20 million. That'll be a breeze to replace at that price won't it? This is not good value for us. Not least because of the continuing message it sends to the rest of the players.

Hate this nonsense about not wanting to keep an unhappy player. Suarez wanted to go to arsenal last summer but Liverpool wouldn't let him and he didn't sulk on the pitch. If the deal doesn't match what saints want or if saints don't feel selling is in their interests now they are perfectly in their rights to fig their heels in and say come back next year.

Which is fair enough - we just better hope that like the scousers with suarez we kick on next season. Lallana's too much of a good professional to throw a strop but it is neither good for him or us or indeed his value if he's stagnating in a mediocre team. Of course, that's making assumptions about what KL's ambitions are for the side.

I didn't say it was fantastic value - I said it was closer to the value we should expect for him given the circumstances.

We all know he is going.

But 25m not enough considering the Bmth clause which leaves us with under 20m, a crazy figure for our Captain, on long contract and off the back of being voted by fellow pros onto the POTY shortlist.

Lets at least stand up for ourselves on this one and not be bullied again by Liverpool.

No we don't. Stop being overly negative. It's bad enough as it is. Wait and see you're depressing.

£25 mill is a damned insult when you consider they once spent £35 mill on Andy ****ing Carroll. I never dreamed that "our" England players might not be ours by the World Cup, but this board are doing their best to make it happen!! Utter utter shambles.

The Reds want to complete the deal swiftly or they will consider moving on to alternative transfer targets.

Sod off onto other targets then. It would make such a mockery of all this ''Being done on our terms'' ''what is right for Southampton'' ''we are in control''.

No Ralph, we're clearly not, as Liverpool have got us on our back and are tickling our belly at present.

Ok they can sell the guys, but they could have at least let us have the pride of watching the lads in the World Cup as Saints. What difference would a month make? Could even have pushed the prices up if say Adam sets Brasil alight. No other big names will move till after the WC. Kruger and cronies have no soul.

Simon peach on twitter doesn't seem to think offer is too good to refuse. Hoping he's right and Liverpool go after shaqiri now.

Agree it's not too good to refuse -assuming the board is genuine about its ambitions and happy to turn down the money. That confidence has been tested these last couple of days.

The press will not be happy until we are firmly put back in our place...where they see us, a small fry feeder club in the lower tiers of English football. we aren't allowed to have good players because we are the unpopular Southampton. We aren't a London club and we aren't one of the "big" clubs. I can just see them all now high fiving each other with each and every rumour that edges nearer the truth.

You really believe that? Most journos have been gushing about Saints and saying how refreshing. Is this all part of the plan?

@bigadamsport: Update via @BenSmithBBC - #saintsfc told Liverpool they wanted to net 20M from Lallana sale, when rejecting initial bid - #afcb get 25%

WTF would you tell them that. Absolute amateurs, this board is so far out of it's depth it is untrue. And the more I read the more I am beginning to believe that this is a full scale asset strip going on before our very eyes.

For 25m I'd let him go. He's simply not worth that kind of money. Great player but not worth that.

He clearly is worth that and much more besides.

In this day and age and being English, he is worth more than that.

Andy Caroll - £35m.

Jordan Henderson - £20m

Joleeon Lescott - £25m

If AFCB get 25% of the gross fee and we want £20m, Liverpool need to agree a fee of circa £27m. Let's hope Ralph has grown a pair and says no.

And I wonder if what was said is we won't even consider the bid unless we net £20m - but even so.... :mcinnes:

Not sure what this shows - other than poor business.

Look at Nasri and Silva- both bought at around £23-25m, younger than Lallana and with more pedigree. In Nasri's case, he had already shown he could cut it in the prem - part of the English premium. Let's not pretend it's a million miles off what's being offered for AL. The fact that we have to pay Bournemouth 25% is neither here nor there for Liverpool or market value. £25m is £25m. Never mind the perception -right or wrong- that we need the money.

The board have told Liverpool we want £20m??? Do they have any idea what they're doing?

I can hear Ralph's statement now: "I think what's important to remember is that this deal for Lallana has been done on such friendly terms which is so great to see. Everybody sat around the table and had a good debate and everyone is delighted with the outcome. The thing we are most excited about this though is that now there is a new space in our team for a new player to excel. That's what we've really achieved here, we need to keep the side as fresh as possible and losing Adam and Rickie will give the chance to others to thrive. And what's more, with the money we've got from this deal we've just been able to sign a new team of Accountants, one of them who used to work at Microsoft, so this is a great day for the Southampton Saints."

Sorry completely disagree. 30m should be our red line in the sand at bare minimum. Also don't think we can afford to let the exits become a stampede so we have to be tough in regards who we allow to go and ignore the players feelings. 2 seasons ago Swansea did great. They sold Allen but they didn't sell michu, William's, Taylor, vorm etcetera who were all coveted by other clubs.

They probably wish they had sold him now though...............

Also Swansea had delivered silverware and European football something we didn't.

I reckon they'll take the £25m if Bournemouth can be persuaded to reduce their cut to £5m.

I have zero confidence in Reed or Krueger at the moment.

I reckon they'll take the £25M and it will all be done and dusted in the next few days. Shaw too, although getting £30M for him would be good business IMO.

Well if Liverpool are going to move onto other targets the turn the bid down. They are acting like it's our last chance otherwise we will miss out on selling like that's a bad thing! If that's the way the board are acting then **** me we are screwed. Seems like a great chance to play hardball here. But guess not...

Brilliant, but sadly likely to be very close to the truth.
