Luke Shaw - Done Deal

Good. Get it settled. Not at all disappointed to lose him. Fantastic amount of money to receive. £30m+ for an 18 yr old. We do not need a world class LB. Expect a move for Timothee Kolodciejak now and/or Bruno Martins-Indi. Both more than adequate for us.

Don't get this attitude Dan. We don't know the fee yet and another hugely promising talent flies the nest after barely a year and a half of first-team football.

The money is likely to be a lot better than received for the likes of Theo, Ox, Bale, but we can only say its a 'fantastic' deal once assessing how the money benefits the squad as a whole. Hopefully it is re-invested and spent well.

P.S. Isn't Martins-Indi mainly a CB anyway? Think he only fills in at LB if he has to. I have absolutely no knowledge of the Kolo fella so hoping he is up to the task if we decide to move for him - he has big boots to fill. Playing Football Manager with the expected money received and spending it on players most have probably only read about, doesn't always pan out the same in real life.

Here we go. 3 2 1 meltdown! ( bit like runaround but on a keyboard)

If there is a meltdown over a club getting £30m or more for an 18 year old LB with three quarters of a season behind him our fans really are ferking stupid

Koeman will have sanctioned this i suspect and we will use those funds to hopefully go after 3 or 4 very good players. Pelle, Kolodciejak, De Vrij, Van Djik, Marshall, Caulker - we could buy 3 or 4 of them with that money

I know footballers are rich but even they can't get their hands on that sort of money and there's no way United will be able to gift it to him whilst he's another teams player so I can't believe this to be the case surely.

They get Nike or someone to advance him the swans, been done many times

Couldn't have put it better myself -still there are some very irrational people around.

Regarding Luke, why do people say £30million is a lot for an 18year old? They will get 15 years from him which is £2m a year, and they're able to pay him £150k a wk which is £7million a year so we ought to charge at least £40m which is still less than £3million a year, meanwhile they will be paying him £117million over the 15 years. Yes, I've changed my mind we should charge them £50million if they are able to pay him that much.

Isn't it rational to value a player you have seen play multiple times over ones that you have barely seen play, or probably have only heard about through media speculation?

I really hope we spend the money well and improve the squad with a few purchases but that is no guarantee of quality is it? Only have to look at Spurs last season - though you would like to think our scouting department is a bit more clued up than theirs.

I would say we can only find out if its a good deal if we ever know what the deal actually is.

Certainly a very good signing for Man Utd and I would think we have done fairly well financially from it.

He may also pick up a bad injury/horrible disease from a playboy bunny. 30 million sounds like a good price to me.

It is crazy money but I feel the best thing for Luke would've been to stay with us for another year as regular starter, to keep improving particularly with his crossing and backtracking.

At United it'll be like starting from scratch with much less patience.

Yep. I think Luke will play 20-25 games max at United and will go backwards this season.

He is class. He will be class there. Might not play every game this season but they arent spending 30m for him to be a sub.

Why does this forum downplay people once they leave or are about to leave.

Was the same with MP. Was lauded one minute then now people are already lowering their opinions of him.

Shaw is phenomenal.

Hmmm, he's a fantastic LB for his age but his attacking game needs a lot of improvement which imo, means he isn't worth the money that's been talked about.

I hope he doesn't get the cringeworthy receptions that Walcott and Chamberlain get when he return's to St. Mary's.

Smalling and Jones as examples. However I think Shaw is a class act and will actually do very well, would not surprise if he replaces Baines as no. 1 left back very soon.

Because it's a record fee for a teenager and a world record for a full back, perhaps?

Indeed he is, he has passed every level with ease. Wiltshire commented that he looked like a player with 100 caps in Belo Horizonte. I was there and he was as calm as you like. Barring injuries he will be a top player, and Man Utd may soon be too small for him.

Proud to have seen what looks like turning out to be his last game as a Saints player. He has been a joy to watch through the sixty odd games he played for us. We are being well compensated for losing him, and let's hope we invest the money wisely.

We will always remember he started his career with us, as we do with Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain.

Probably main reason to delay the deal was to allow us time to find a replacement before prices inflated

Or to save a bit of face on our guff and bravado..not to mention a bit of an excursion to Brazil, mind you with England's showing they might as well have gone on a day trip to Bognor, come back with a stick of rock instead of empty handed.

**** me he didn't hang around, must have flew direct to Manchester from Brazil the little c*nt.

Well for one, the transfer window has been open for weeks. For two, you don't have to take this personally. It's just the move that he feels is best for him right now. Good luck to him.

If the fee is 34 million then fair enough, and i think on the whole he's behaved a lot better than one or two of the others. Personally think he is making a mistake though as quite frankly in a year or two we would be talking about Barcelona and Real Madrid being in for him, not just Man Utd. Good luck to him.

Now for the hard part - spending the money well...

The England squad did indeed fly from Brazil to Manchester to drop off all the northern based players and it then flew South for the Southern based players.

Very harsh calling him a "c*nt", I doubt you'd turn down a £5m+ per year wage if you were offered it.

No issue him going for the crazy sums being touted around if it means we can keep Lallana and strengthen the squad as a whole.

But the crazy sums being touted around won't be what we actually get, not immediately anyway.

So anyway lets say 30 million to make the maths easy, plus 4 for Rickie,a bit for Fox and do we count Puncheon. 2 million from MP as well. So that's nigh on 40 million that we'll have banked, let's get spending it to back up Uncle Les's "esbroufe".

We are a selling club again, kerching, keep that cash register red hot.

Have a feeling we may start to see things pepping up now, what with the return of most of our lads from the WC. I think the club will be fair to their word in that nothing will happen until 1) after the world cup (for the respective countries) and 2) once a manager is in place.

I still believe we'll lose who we've been rumoured to lose, it's about who we replace them with.

But we haven't gone down the WBA route for a manager and we haven't seen what pedigree of player he will bring in yet !

You're right mate, I'm preparing my arbitrary list of dutch players I only recently heard of now to make myself feel better.

As someone that's watches an awful lot of Dutch football I'll be able to provide an in depth analysis of every one of them.

Saint Charlie you are behind the times re Blackmore . I was persuaded by fitzhugh about Blackmore .

So shaws on his way . I will not wish him luck . He's made his bed he can go and lie in it if it's true . Maybe Rooney has arranged a threesome with a couple if his old grannies . I guess that's what sealed the deal .

I see mr bailey was a journo after all . Why did he state that from the out .

An incredibly immature and bitter comment. Why is it always the players at fault here?? He's going to earn a fortune as an 18 year old kid, he's given us a decent innings and will pocket us a decent fee. I hold nothing against him and wish him all the best, comments like yours are just moronic.

If it's £30 million or over, that's great business and best of luck to him.

Also astonished as the stupidity/arrogance of all the Utd hacks criticising us for the fee. If £34mil is what we're willing to sell for, and what Utd are willing to pay, then that's the f******* market price. Do they really expect smaller teams to accept a loss so that English players remain "affordable"?
