Luke Shaw - Done Deal

I think that losing Shaw is a real blow - I have really enjoyed watching him this season and I think he has a lot more to offer. He will turn into a top world-class player. I just wish he could do that with us.

Has he moved club then? As far as I am aware he is still a Saints player

Which lines should I read between?

"The second point I’d like to clear up is speculation in the press about our players. That is my responsibility.

As we stand there have been no enquiries, we have had no bids and we have had no offers for any of our players. That’s accurate, that is the truth and that’s exactly where we are.

Reports that we are about to close deals on certain players are totally misinformed, misleading and are not true. No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players so reports that some of our players are in the process of negotiating stellar transfer fees or contracts are absolutely misinformed and inaccurate.

No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players and that will remain so.

As far as the policy in concerned we have had a great season, we want to build on that season, we want to improve the squad going forward, we want to retain the players we’ve got. They are all contracted, they all have existing contracts and we intend to honour those contracts.

Any enquiries we get will probably be met with a ‘no, not for sale.’ Our intention is to keep this very good team together and build on it by bringing in players to improve upon it.

Every transfer window, particularly the summer, is a difficult one because everybody is out there trying to attract players.

We have our targets, we want to improve the squad, these are things we are discussing on a daily basis and we intend to produce a squad that is capable of not just maintaining the position we are in at the moment but improving next season.

It’s a positive message we want to get out there.

Our fans deserve to understand there is not going to be a fire sale here and we have repeatedly said that.

We have had no offers for players, deals are not about to be concluded for any of our players, and we want to keep all of our best players here at the club and build on that for the future.

None of that is actually happening though.

At the end of last season the family agreed to look after him for one more year as Saints said he was too young to move out. So he was always going to leave them now whatever happened.

I know that.

My point being that would be a better twist/story for the media.

If we are to let shaw go, i think we should insist on hernandez and money. This would severely soften the blow for me as we would know we were getting a great player in a position we need and not just pocketing or spunking the cash.

How would u guys feel towards hernandez and 10 million for shaw

Trouble with those player plus cash deals is the player being offered seldom wants to come, so form is affected. I'd prefer lump sum all at once (but keeping Shaw would be much better)

Kroos to Utd for £20mill seems a steal considering we are "reportedly" getting £27 mill for Luke

I am pretty sure for that type of money we can get a class replacement for a fraction of the cost,I also think that if we sell Luke we won't sell anymore players

Yeah thats a good point, although it would give hernandez a chance to be first choice striker not just a bit part sub.

I still think bringing in a top striker this season should be a priority rickie was looking far too slow last year, and i hope we dont forget about this issue if having to replace outgoing players.

I'd take Hernandez. He's got a bit of pace and knows where the goal is, the sort of player we could do with.

However he would have to want to come and not just because it was the only way that they could get Shaw.

We've been caught out before by accepting players as part of a deal (Dixon, Speedie, Ripley).

You can use other players swaps to justify any side of the argument, it's pointless. Swaps can look poor value at first and end up good value, and vice versa. All depends on form, injuries, resale value etc.

Why are previous player exchanges Saints have done in any way relevant? You should look at a player on their own merits.

I would be devastated. I reckon Hernandez was a flash in the pan. Any season that you start by scoring a goal like this:

is probably going to go well!

Whenever I've seen him play recently he can barely control the ball. He played 24 games (admittedly most as sub) in the league last season and scored four goals. He was behind Welbeck in the pecking order. I know I'm biased, but I'd have Jay Rodriguez in the England team ahead of Welbeck. £20,000,000 for a player that's not as good as one of your current strikers seems a lot.

Would much rather we spent £20,000,000 on someone else.

Honestly don't know if he's that good or not. He had a few good years of being an impact sub for a team winning most games and creating loads of chances. Would certainly take him if it was say £27m plus Hernandez though.

Destructive finisher, great movement, very fast.

I'm not sold on whether he could do the job up top on his own though.

Think I'd be more tempted by somebody like Vela who can play up top, or out wide.

Looks like Vela is going back to Arsenal. They have first option on him

Michu 2m.

Torres 50m.

Rodriguez 7m.

Milner 28.5m.

I know that, but when you just take Kroos and Shaw as the examples Kroos at £20 mill seems like a great bit of business, however the deal has now fallen through so it doesn't matter

United's transfer dealings have become shambolic. All done publicly, they've let everyone know they have dough and "money is no object". Like Fabregas last year all over again.

I think we know this and will get paid massively over the odds for him,if the board handle this properly we could ask for £35mill and no budge on that,it will test them to see how keen they are on bringing him in

I heard about that - Apparently they have some buy-back clause where they can get him back for something crazy like £3M

Pretty sure I also read that too,£3.7mill and they can buy him back, but if anyone else wants him his buy out clause is £20 mill

Wenger would be nuts not to use that option imo

as I don't expect hear that van Gaal will have a secret meeting with Luke (in Brazil) and come back with his signature on a contract, there may be some delay with this one.

However, a good World Cup (for Luke) ...and the price may go even higher........though I'd be sorry to see the lad go.... (if he does) - the money's beginning to look very nice,

and (if he doesn't).....I'd hate to be an up-and-coming Academy left back ......waiting for a first team chance..... sometime in the next 10 years.

so.... whats with the silence from both sides? not much have been heard from either clubs ever since. have a feeling this will drag on till after the world cup?

Ever since what? Ever since the last rumour yesterday, or this morning or whenever it was?

Now Evra staying...

Still think, as have done, good chance Reid was speaking truth and no-one leaving.

Wouldn't be surprised if one or two (no more) go but equally wouldn't be surprised if manager and players stay...not heard anything strongly suggesting otherwise.

We know majority of press is rubbish

Surely they won't be buying Shaw then. He wouldn't go there to be backup to Evra and Evra wouldn't have signed a new deal to be back up to Shaw.

Hopefully it'll die down with this one now. Probably try again next summer now.

Surprised nobody picked this up.

@SimonPeach: On transfer talk, @LukeShaw3 said: "It's not even on my mind. Transfer talk is completely gone. I'm here to focus on England & England only"

Quite interesting, seeing as Hodgson has said he wanted any transfer stuff sorted before the the world cup, that's quite a statement. Would at least indicate that clubs have tried, but haven't reached agreement with us and that the door is closed for now to allow him to focus on the WC.

Would imagine clubs are baulking at the £30m or so, as he's not been proven at the top level yet - so I reckon a decent enough world cup will be enough for plenty of clubs to come knocking and probably match our asking price. So at least it seems as he will be one of ours at the WC.

I picked it up and posted it at 3.11pm on the other thread about the No news hysteria.

How things change in the rumour departments of the media. All of a sudden, the Shaw is 99.99% a Man United player story, suddenly begins to change to Shaw wants to get the World Cup out of the way without any distractions, so that is apparently now on hold. Noises start to emanate from Manchester that perhaps they might keep Evra another season, which would put his nose out of joint playing second fiddle to an 18 year old kid, or Shaw's propects of bench-warming not pleasing him if Evra plays. Lallana to Liverpool was another dead cert, yet Liverpool appear to shy away from the sum we want for him, so the fans of several other clubs are getting a bit nervous because some of their players are now in the frame instead. Who knows, we might even keep our manager, now that De Boer is starting to creep into the frame as potentially the better choice for the Spuds.

As the hysteria quietens down with the first division of transfer candidates, so the media move on to our second division of Schneiderlin, Lovren and now Fonte. One has to hope that they in turn will require quite inflated prices to persuade us to part with them too, so the vultures begin to identify other potential pickings elsewhere too.

Not sure about that, and not sure they are even direct rivals? First up, I'm a JRod fan and I'm more than happy with his contribution since he's been here, he was a bit of a slow burner but he's had a really good season this year and it looks like there's plenty more to come as long as he can get past his injury. Now to the much maligned Mr Welbeck, did you not see the United game at SMS recently? If not I'd suggest that TV highlights don't really do justice to players in the flesh. Absolutely outstanding display, for somebody with that 'awkward' look he is technically on a different level, a sort of bl*ck Peter Crouch, only much quicker, if you will; everything stuck, and he used the ball really intelligently too. Pacy, strong, full of running, and all of it with a purpose; he created their goal and was the only player on their side (bar Mata) to offer any sort of threat.

Factor in their international scoring records and it really is a no brainer, I really like JRod and what he brings to the team but anybody saying that his injury robbed him of his WC place is getting a bit ahead of themselves, who would you have left out to accommodate him? Rooney?Sturridge? Welbeck? Sterling?* If he keeps up his progress JRod could be an outside chance for the next Euro's (and that is not to damn JR with feint praise - we are talking the top, top level here and it's no disgrace for a player to be in the position of first reserve, why do we think that finishing 8th in the PL and never having played any European/CL football gives one of our players a shoo-in to some very select company?).

*I'd have left Rooney out, a great player and all that but he's just not got the chemistry in an England shirt, a sort of Lampard/Gerrard forever-doomed-to-failure type set-up.

My England team from February:

................ Hart .................

Chambers .... Jag .... Cahill ..... Shaw

.........Gerrard ....... Barry .................

Ox .............. AL .............. Sterling

.............. Sturridge ...................

Reckon that side would run rings around Roy's boys.

Irony is that is we keep MP, Shaw, Lallana, Schneiderlin and Lovren and add 3-4 players we would really challenge for top 6.

All these players have long term deals so it really rests on whether KL wants to push on or consolidate.

It´s soon coming to a point when the biggest reason I want him to stay isn´t because he´s a great player but because it would give us the opportunity to give everyone the middle finger and I would quite like that....

This and massively so. I suspect a lot of non top 6 think this and want us to keep them all.
