doddisalegend Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Don't they need a new manager before they start trying to buy players?
Gemmel Posted 11 May, 2014 Author Posted 11 May, 2014 Don't they need a new manager before they start trying to buy players? LOL - no, that is very naïve
CB Fry Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 That boy has got a heck of a lot of "new Gareth Bale" pressure to live up to if he ends up going for that kind of money.
hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 That boy has got a heck of a lot of "new Gareth Bale" pressure to live up to if he ends up going for that kind of money. When I look at some of the dross that have gone for about that amount, I reckon we need more than 27. 35 at least for me.
View From The Top Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Laughable price. We need a lot more. £27m for an 18yo left back is laughable? I'm sure you can find examples of other LBs going for that sort of money.
Gemmel Posted 11 May, 2014 Author Posted 11 May, 2014 That boy has got a heck of a lot of "new Gareth Bale" pressure to live up to if he ends up going for that kind of money. Agreed..... a couple more million and they can have him
hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 £27m for an 18yo left back is laughable? I'm sure you can find examples of other LBs going for that sort of money. I'm sure you can find an 18 year old Englishman as comfortable in his position at that age from the last 20 years?
View From The Top Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 When I look at some of the dross that have gone for about that amount, I reckon we need more than 27. 35 at least for me. £30 maybe, £35 would be an outstanding amount of money and, dare I say it, good business.
View From The Top Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 I'm sure you can find an 18 year old Englishman as comfortable in his position at that age from the last 20 years? Answering a question with a question clearly means that you can't find me an example.
SuperSAINT Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Is this a twitter rumour? Breaking news on SSN. (Broken by Jim White)
hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Answering a question with a question clearly means that you can't find me an example. There has never been another left back that has gone for that amount. There has never been another left back as comfortable in his position at 18 as Luke Shaw. He is English as well and highly coveted. He will almost certainly perform brilliantly for them and will be worth probably double that amount in a couple of years. We are it he prem now too and have no need to sell. We should be demanding more.
farawaysaint Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Answering a question with a question clearly means that you can't find me an example. It would make him the 4th most expensive defender of all time.
BlakeySFC Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Simon Peach on twitter just favourited a tweet that said 'Sounds like a Cortese story...'
hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 £30 maybe, £35 would be an outstanding amount of money and, dare I say it, good business. Agree. 27 undervalues him.
Nolan Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 £27m for an 18yo left back is laughable? I'm sure you can find examples of other LBs going for that sort of money. An 18 yo left back who doesn't count in the 25 man squad due to his age and would be a 'homegrown' asset on any team sheet in the future. THAT commands a lot of extra value.
S-Clarke Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 No confirmed on ssn As good as a twitter rumour then? At the end of the day he'll go, along with a few others this pre-season. We just need to get it out of the way early so it doesn't drag out an entire summer.

doddisalegend Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 LOL - no, that is very naïve Fair enough I can just see the new manager asking the Man U board for some money to buy some new players he wants to build his new lookteam only to be told the club already spent the cash before he got the job.

We should be demanding more. He is never going to be worth £60m. Never. He's no Bale, more of a Pearce or Samson. Yes, demand more but please, spare us the old "we have no need to sell" bull. If a player wants to go, they go.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Not sure he would love it up north on his own. Still think he might select to stay here one more season and then see what options he has. Afterall, Utd can't offer Champions League and there is guarentee they will make it next season either.
Viking Warrior Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Good old team stream . The same who quoted mp as players will be sold . When he didn't say anything of the kind
Baird of the land Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Maybe the World Cup can give a slight relief from the constant attempts to flog our players off by the media. Really don't want to sell shaw. Think another season of development with us would do him no harm and hopefully let us see if targett can start to come through.
St Chalet Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Probably worth it for Utd so that can get Januzaj back from his pocket.
david in sweden Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Booooooooo ....are you sure it wasn't .......28 million? Any advance on 28 ....anyone ?
igsey Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 We would be insane to sell anybody before the World Cup.
S-Clarke Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 £25 mill and Buttner would be a good deal No it wouldn't, he's horrific. We got a jail out of free card on that one.
Viking Warrior Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 I think the united story is tosh .surely it will be down to their new manager when he gets appointed who he wants to purchase
Gemmel Posted 11 May, 2014 Author Posted 11 May, 2014 £25 mill and Buttner would be a good deal Not a bad shout
Gemmel Posted 11 May, 2014 Author Posted 11 May, 2014 I think the united story is tosh .surely it will be down to their new manager when he gets appointed who he wants to purchase Bloddy hell Viking wake up mush.....this is 2014

Yes, demand more but please, spare us the old "we have no need to sell" bull. If a player wants to go, they go. What does a player wanting to go have to do with us having no need to sell? Yes if he wants to go he will go but that doesn't mean we need the money or anything.
JoeShmoe Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 You have to seriously consider that but given everyone knows ManU are desperate you'd push for 30m plus a sell on clause. Not sure where Targett is or even if Clyne do a job there next season but pretty sure you could get a decent LB for under 5m (Cresswell?) and reinvest the rest
nta786 Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 £30 maybe, £35 would be an outstanding amount of money and, dare I say it, good business. Deffo, £35 would be an amazing piece of business. Even if they gave us £35m, I'd still rather keep him Technically, we have a £30 million player at the moment- think of it this way, we could lose him. We could take Welbeck as part of the deal? That would interest me too, I genuinely think we could improve the guy with a run of games IMO.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Shaw is in the WC squad. Again, as with AL it makes no sense to sell before the tournament.
Saint_Tony Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Just hope it gets done asap, we're going to need to bring in at least 8 new players, which will take time.

Well I'd love wellbeck at saints but don't see it happening, especially if we are selling one of our best players to them.
hypochondriac Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 Just hope it gets done asap, we're going to need to bring in at least 8 new players, which will take time. Not before the world cup. That would be crazy.
pangy Posted 11 May, 2014 Posted 11 May, 2014 No it wouldn't, he's horrific. We got a jail out of free card on that one. The few times I have seen him he has looked alright, granted he is no Shaw but the right team and set up he could be a decent addition, even for a back up to maybe Clyne at LB ?
