St Chalet Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 The funny thing is people who really are ITK will be smiling at that comment, as there was an announcement to the players pre-game today about Lallana and Shaw's future that hasn't been discussed here, proving the point that those ITK don't bother sharing information with this site anymore. Quod erat demonstrandum.
NickG Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 The standout comment for me was him saying, after spending afternoon with Roy Hodgeson, --- we have three players going to Brazil for full England team & would have been four if JayRod fit. Great for the other 3 but spare a thought for Rodriguez whilst the others are celebrating. Going to be tough for him to watch thinking what might have been. buctootim Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 Great for the other 3 but spare a thought for Rodriguez whilst the others are celebrating. Going to be tough for him to watch thinking what might have been. True. Still better to think "I would have been there if it wasn't for this injury" than "not only am injured but I wasn't good enough for selection". CB Fry Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 Oh dear Small Fry. One off-the-cuff quote becomes the categorical, considered statement on our near-term ambitions, does it? Forget others have spoken about keeping the squad and bringing in two or three players. Of course, I can see where I've erred. Clotese's (lol) dangerous precedent in spending City-like amounts each season has given rise to false expectations...oh wait I don't doubt that Shaw, Lallana and others will leave at some point - where did I claim otherwise? But it's not inconceivable that we could get another season or so out of (some of) them before a ceiling is hit. Time is largely on everyone's side. The answer's simple Small Fry: perhaps the board doesn't share the goal of incremental improvement, another solid summer of strengthening, since it thinks we've maxed out, though that's arguably b*****ks. Indeed, a net strengthening is still possible, though more difficult without Shaw, Lallana et al. We'll soon find out from your Darling of Davos. God knows what points you are making here, but well done on the word count.
Dig Dig Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 Only you and some other numpties still crying about NC leaving seem to be getting this message the board clearly don't want to sell any players but they are realistic enough to know we are not the biggest fish in the pond. The sad thing is you all seem to think that if NC was here we wouldn't still be in the same position that we find ourselves in now. KL was still the owner and had control of the purse strings when NC was here and considering the season we've had our players and manager would be in demand right now whether NC was here or not. NC was within days of selling Lambert to WHU in January and the one player during his tenure that was really in demand he couldn't stop from going to Arsenal. This is the success that everyone craved, now he we have to deal with the reality of that success, which is bigger clubs with deeper pockets will want our best players and decent managers this is the state of modern football people we need to deal with it Sorry, but you can easily say, "we haven't had any bids and we don't invite any bids as we don't need or want to sell any of our players".... A much better starting point than "other clubs have more money than us, we can't compete and we have players they want".
Pastor Patrón Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 If the owners aren't interested in trying to improve on what we've got then why not just put the club up for sale? They've done what they set out to do when they bought it so why bother just stagnating?

Pastor Patrón Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 You think there is a long queue of good owners with the money to buy us and then invest significantly later. Nope but then again we got bought by billionaires with good intentions at minus 10 points in L1 in the middle of a global recession.
Dig Dig Posted 11 May, 2014 Share Posted 11 May, 2014 Gotta say, for a mod, that is quite a hilarious post. Not only have you clearly got the hump because I had the temerity to point out the dubious nature of your "I spoke to 20+ people at the awards dinner" claim, but you are also saying that by doing so you are ITK! It was very easy to speak to that many people at the awards ceremony. Nothing unbelievable about it.
Ohio Saint Posted 12 May, 2014 Share Posted 12 May, 2014 Players will come and go just like always. The big difference now is that if they go, they will go on on our own terms, and not at knock down prices. Simple.
kpturner Posted 12 May, 2014 Share Posted 12 May, 2014 (edited) It was very easy to speak to that many people at the awards ceremony. Nothing unbelievable about it. I've been to a one or two, and if you did manage to speak to 20+ SFC employees over the course of the evening it certainly wouldn't be for long enough to make an informed judgement of their abilities as a (for example) chairman. St Chalet confirmed as much subsequently. That aside, it conjures up an image of a star-struck autograph hunter flitting from celeb to celeb. They aren't going to give you much more than a few trivial sound bite answers to inane repetitive questions being thrown at them left, right and centre. Viking Warrior Posted 12 May, 2014 Share Posted 12 May, 2014 Is it possible ST Chalet the 20+ SFC employees were winding you up if you were asking similar questions throughout the evening Im thinking of going next year , seriously , but are you in the lounge where the players and officials are or in the Mick channon lounge, I got the impression there were two separate lounges being used for the awards ceremony. Im probably wrong, Im usually wrong as I have next to know connection with the club anymore since we moved from the dell and andrew Cowans left and a few players I used to know retired

I think I will reserve judgement on RK until he has been in the job a while.
Sevvy Posted 12 May, 2014 Share Posted 12 May, 2014 Now if Luke Shaw wants to play champions league, why would he go to united as they are not in Europe this year , why not stay at Saints for another 12months and see where we are or united are. Mind you that's if he wants to go to United that is. All this speculation of who is staying and going is a waste of time, just sit back relax for a while, enjoy the world cup, what will be will be, there is nothing you or me can do about it. Sevvy.
