Cortese behind stories in the media?

Turkish

Recommended Posts

Its seems 3 separate journalists, namely crook, peach and Blackmore have now confirmed that Cortese and his camp have been leaking stories to the media. As I said a few days back its a bit of a coincidence most of these stories appear in the mail, the sun and the mirror who gushed praise on us when he was here.

By the looks of these stories It seems he is intent on destabilising players and the current board via the media and to harm the club he once described as 'his baby'

What are we to make of this people? For what reason would he so this?

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm merely repeating what these journalists have tweeted, are they all liars?

1) Even under NDA it is easy to do this IF you are a "Disgruntled" former employee. It is the same in any industry, you may have a grudge against your former employer but as long as it is always a "deniable source" then there is nothing that can be done about it.

2) NEVER underestimate an Ego. (Hell hath no fury like a Woman Scorned as an eg). He is mad as hell. He will believe he was right. (I am sure the experts can pull up Wiki Psyche descriptions that wil explain this better than I can)

3) NC wants to join the Mega Rich. Look at his lifestyle choices Eterna, Sunseeker, I bet his pad was in Sandbanks etc. He was only earning a pittance while with us (compared to what he would imagine he would earn continuing his work with Sheikh's & Sovereign Wealth funds from his banking days). (Why did he leave that industry? Well it was in post Lehman melt down at the time). He wanted to get the Liebherr family out, bring in new (did not sign up to FFP rules) mega wealthy investors and create the Next Man City, and of course pocket a mega "performance related bonus" as a result

4) His Business Plan would have included phrases like build from the bottom up. Be the opposite of Chelsea & Citeh. He will have believed that he could do it

5) He will still be mates with the Chinese guy and some of the others he will no doubt have spoken to over the years. He will know that if he HURTS the family, if he implodes the club he can walk back in as the Prodigal Son, the masses will fall at his feet and he can carry on.

All he has to do is to make KL walk away. Get the squad smashed up in the summer, many fans on here have already said they will only judge Krueger on actions not words. Everyone leaves? Well, it will not take long for the Vitriol to start.

Make no mistake, the club is still at war with the Don. Luckily we have professionals in charge now, it won't be nice but I actually think they may hold him off and leave the Grinch sitting with his toy train set and having plotting new sensations....

It's all club based at the moment. It will spread

The best thing would be for him to get a job at one of these top Italian clubs that wanted him so badly.

He obviously has too much time on his hands at the moment and is quite happy to stir the pot of ****e !

I can well believe he is the one behind it. Crook I wouldnt believe often, but Simon Peach and Adam Blackmore, esp Blackmore are pretty solid.

Which are the stories you think he has leaked with the intention of harming the club?

Genuine question - why? What is his motive for doing it? Does he just want to be disruptive or is he looking for a way back in?

I've had a good think about it, and my conclusion is that it is because he is a bitter little short-arsed pri ck.

Does anyone know what his pay was before he joined the club. When banks advise billionaires on what sports club to spend their money on do they pay that company millions and subsequently does that bank pay it's executive millions?

Perhaps he earned a lot more at SFC than he would if he had continued at Banque Heritage. I bow to superior knowledge here.

Can you link all the positive stories in the media since he left. Thanks in advance.

Body swerve. I'm not making any claims so no obligation to link anything. Do it yourself if you're interested. You are making a claim. Back it up or it's pure conjecture. Off to the match now. Enjoy your day on here.

If you really think that Nicola Cortese has the time, desire and hatred towards Southampton FC and it's owners to 'plant' unsettling stories in the media you really are deluded.......he's moved on.

He loves this club.....but not so much he wants to damage it in the process.

No idea but as your last words say IF he had stayed. I conjecture that Saints went into admin around 6 months after the Dubai Financial collapse which was triggered by Lehmans. No idea what happened in EU but anyone involved in any sort of "Speculative" Financial Services industry down here at that time got burnt very fast (the days of the Porsche's left at the airports..

So it's a reasonable assumption to make.

For those who don't know what this is about, here are the sources for the topic.

Adam Blackmore (a couple of weeks ago, when Shaw/Lallana to United was supposed to be virtually a done deal):

@gregvul @Zoggers87 @MarkReeves999 @SaintsWeb for info, there's been a concerted effort to destabilise board at #saintsfc with the Lallana/Shaw to United story - it may turn out true but source has been peddling it to media for weeks - some of us ignore stuff we can't prove/source

@bigadamsport @Zoggers87 @MarkReeves999 @SaintsWeb can you say who is behind this or where the suspicion lies?

@Zoggers87 @MarkReeves999 @gregvul no, you've missed my subtle hint - maybe ex-board people may have an axe to grind !!

@bigadamsport @MarkReeves999 @gregvul surely he has better thinvs to do than link players to other clubs. Reckon he would sink so low?

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport

@Zoggers87 @MarkReeves999 @gregvul phone calls from people close to him aren't a coincidence - doesn't surprise me at all

Simon Peach:

Lee Curtis ‏@beatlesaint 21h

@SimonPeach Do you believe the rumour that Cortese is stirring the **** and feeding some of the press ?

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

@beatlesaint Don't think it's a rumour

For completion's sake, Alex Crook

Alex Goring Crook ‏@alex_crook 11h

@Bradswag86 Pretty sure his camp are still feeding certain journos but I am not one of them

And it's not me saying he's been feeding the press, I'm drawing attention to what 3 journalists have said. It's not hard to work out though is it, lots of stories ever since he left of meltdowns, players wanting out, manager want to go etc, mainly in the same papers that used to blow smoke up his arse and lavish praise on us. Why the about turn?

I heard the story about our ex Chief Exec peddling unsettling stories to the press (particularly the Daily Mail - unfortunately can't remember the name of the journo there) from a good source who has no particular axe to grind.

Also understand that Man Utd used possible transfer activity (including particular interest in Saints players) to deflect attention from the Moyes sacking a week or two back.

Of course the latter situation is not unusual but the press speculation that can be attributed to an ex employee is disappointing but, unfortunately, not an unexpected consequence to a number of us.

If it is true I wonder what the motive is. If the stories are true about him I wouldn't rule out spite but maybe he wants 'his' club back. If so it's not the right way to go about it full stop but you'd have to wonder whether some of the players and MP would be a part of it. Otherwise it'd be pretty stupid winding up those you'd have to work with again in the future (I'm talking players and coaching staff here).

This is a weird way to thank the man who took us from the pits to the premiership

It's a weird way to treat a former employer who just happened to make him the highest paid chief exec in the premier league.

You would think NC would have better things to do. I got the impression last week that he is the last person KL would agree to sell the club to.

I'm surprised he hasn't yet taken the job AC Milan have been begging him to take for what must be 4 years now.

After reading left backs post again it seems KL was never impressed with him. By giving you the impression do you think KL is wanting to sell? If you were getting those vibes I assume she might be looking to sell

The Sun gushed praise on us? Like when they called us South Coast Club and refused to print our actual name?

I think you're forgetting they kissed and made up and the sun was very pro saints afterwards.

Fair enough. I haven't read a tabloid for years in all honesty so have no idea what they've said about us, other than a few Martin Samuel pieces posted on here.

I still think it is (e), remember it is somebody "close to him" not "him".

imo it is all part of the "ZERO out" versus "6 + MoPo out" issue going on, remember Jack words the other week about "the players ALL talk and ALL want to stay and play here".

(By the way the "6 + MoPo" out route (imo) EQUALS relegation EQUALS Kat's asset (current value 120-200m) becomes greatly reduced)

Amazing how quickly we all turn against someone who this time last year was widely accepted as the best thing to happen to the club for years? Expect the same against MoPo and AL in a few months time?

Or maybe some people had different opinions to the mainstream in the first place. Couldn't be, could it?

Well, who is turning against him?

IMHO Turks has been very consistent as have I.

It is perfectly possible to admire achievements and to recognise success. Doesn't mean either of us Married him or blew smoke up his ass.

Surely these stories would be all over the media with or without any alleged input from past employees. It goes with the territory. I am probably being naive, but I can't understand why anyone (Cortese or his PR company) would be bothered to do this. At the end of the day it makes bugger all difference to anyone.

If he was vindictive enough to ban a long term fan from having a season ticket for writing something he didn't like on a forum, engage in long running petty spats with ex players from years ago as well as numerous cases which went to court before he settled outside the day before for no reason, how much more bitter do you think he'd be toward the people who cost him a £2m a year job?

Even if all this were true (not saying it is or isn't) I still do not understand what there is to gain by planting stories in the press - stories that would be there anyway. I am sure that if he were of a mind to conduct some sort of "House of cards" vendetta against those that own the club he would come up with something a tad more effective than that.

Who would have thought that men could be such backstabbing gossips and that kicking a pigs bladder around could be so full of bitter twisted smalltimers.

They could base a Game of Thrones series on all these unfounded rumours.
