View From The Top Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 The highs that stick in my mind are special because I shared them with my son but they are, in no particular order: All away games. MKD - Just for that goal. Brighton - Going absolutely nuts in out garden when Jose scored as we were BBQing and my Wolves supporting neighbour sticking his head over the wall giving us the thumbs up. Orient - Sunshine and a wall of noise from Saints fans. Brentford - Nippers down the front, dads at the back. Plymouth - Seeing my nippers face when we scored was priceless and his joy made me cry. Leicester - We lost but we walked away knowing that we were going up. I seriously knew then how good we were. Skate Bas*ards - Nipper asking why there were empty seats and why they weren't singing. Millwall - One of the best, if not the best, away day I've ever done. The perfect away day. City - When SRL scored and we went 'kin mental it was a release of the years of pain & struggle. SRL - I cried when he scored against the jocks. The lows. Being priced out in the BPL.
saintrich Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 The high for me was the run of Saturday away games we had towards the end of the league one promotion season - Bournemouth, Leyton Orient, Brighton, Brentford and Plymouth. Got the train to the first four and passenger in car for the last - all easy journeys, top days out, plenty of booze and won all five.
Golden Balls Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 What a 5 years it's been. Difficult to add anything that hasn't been said. The JPT was really special for me. Not a major trophy but it was a "we are back" moment and installed a winning mentality. The last ditch goal against Norwich. The penalties. The 2 games against MK Dons. The home game in particular being one of the best atmospheres SMS has ever seen. And then obviously winning it so well at Wembley. The low being that Markus missed our rise through the leagues. charliemiller Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 Feels so much like 2003 , we have a great opportunity to push on and build but sadly it looks like it is unlikely to happen . The team will improve naturally because they are all young players so maybe the loss of a couple wont matter . The one crumb of hope is that we dropped 18 points from winning positions and since VM has come back and at the start of the season the defence was virtually the best in europe . If we can keep the bulk of this defence together then we will be very hard to beat , the attacking part will have to be addressed when we see who leaves . Fingers crossed the 2003 mistakes are not repeated because it was all down hill from there !!
Badger Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 A memorable five year period. Highs: JPT The L1 run in, Championship start and finish to the season RL scoring v Scotland Lows ML passing away All red strip Sacking of Adkins ( at this point for me a "journey" end and we went off on a different route, no matter how well this season has gone) The FA Cup this season , going out without a fight. Huge and heartfelt thanks to those involved (including many no longer with us, NA in particular, Jaidi, Hammond, Chaplow, Sharp,). Hope the 'journey' continues, over to KL,RK, MP etc.
Coxford_lou Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 Millwall - One of the best, if not the best, away day I've ever done. The perfect away day. I was in the home end for that bursting to cheer, with swearing 10 year olds and pot bellied men all around me and my ex bricking it in case I jumped up. It was brilliant. I was so jealous to not be in the away end.
Ohio Saint Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 The last 5 years has been Saints best ever in terms of excitement, drama, and overall story telling. There have been bigger moments in time, like '76 or finishing second in the old First division........but over 5 years? Recent times are unmatched. I consider myself lucky to have been around for it all. The manner of the FA cup fall to Sunderland still hurts me, and is a fly in the ointment for me, but what the hell, flies apparently have a disposition that makes them tend to reside in ointments. Such is life.
dan17 Posted 10 May, 2014 Share Posted 10 May, 2014 It has been one hell of a journey, whatever happens in the next few months. Seriously. The rise up he leagues, the winning more than we lose, the JPT, the breezing through the Championship, the development of the next gen of England stars. Wouldn't change a thing. Whatever happens this summer, the club, the fans and the spirit remains. Love the Saints. Pretty much sums it up for me!
