Has katrina got the money to get us to next level?

With RK and KL in charge now, I did say that our biggest concern now is actually maintaining our level, let alone going beyond it. Basically, we're now back to making up the numbers in the PL, IMO - and this will be masked by the watery "vision" that's been rolled out by the new chairman. The problem is, with such a talented young group of players, it's natural they don't want to just tread water so they're going to look elsewhere.

Still, we did get a nice couple of fan-friendly letters out of it. And they smile more too.

So what was Corteses 'vision'? he said a lot and promised a lot but didn't stick around to see it through. He didn't believe enough in his vision to see it through to completion.

Why was that? If it was because the owners didn't share his vision then and won't provide the funding to see it through then it wasn't a vision at all. It was one mans dreams telling people what they wanted to hear and being lapped up by the suckers who sang his name and worshiped at his alter. If it was indeed a lack of funding as to why he quit then Cortese 'vision' wouldn't have happened even if he'd stayed, so he was, as they said in Top Gun 'an ego writing cheques his body can't cash'. If it wasn't a lack of funding and the owners shared his vision then why do you think the tap has been switched off and someone else can't build on what he left behind?

Didn't see any of that. Maybe I wasn't paying attention or maybe it was a handful of posters as per usual.

Oh there were plenty who belittled the league cup and claimed they didn't care about it. One of only two trophies we have half a chance of winning Was beneath us as a club with only one major trophy to our name.

Plenty of people moaning on here about how different things would be if NC was still here. What were they expecting over the next few years?

Prospect of losing academy players who we should be in a good position to keep for a few seasons and actually achieve something tangible (cup or Europe) and losing Pochettino who has us playing a brand of football which makes us a match for anyone in league home and away.

Right, so if thats what you were expecting, what are you expecting now?

Personally I settle for a well run, mid table side, bring through good academy players and going all out for the cups each year.....rather than blaming KL for not being prepared to bankrupt herself aiming for the CL.

The trouble with this view is that the margins are so fine that it's not sustainable in itself. No club can model themselves on just being a mid table cup side (if such a thing even exists) without relegation being a real threat. That's a quicker way to bankruptcy than any Champions League push.

Who exactly has lapped it up? Don't recall anyone saying we will be 4th this year or even next.

I have to say this is my favourite routine on here. Pretend it never happened.

Well done Dig Dig. You're right.

No one ever has said anything about us being a Champions League club on here. No one, ever. No one has ever praised Cortese's vision to achieve that. No one. No one ever said "well, he got us from L1 to the Prem so who's to say we can't make the CL?" No one ever said the cups don't matter because we're are aiming for the CL and that was the right thing to do. No one ever said anything like that on here.

And no one is now grizzling about that 'vision' being no more. No one.

None of it has ever been mentioned on here. No sir.

Probably talking about some moon/stars quote from Wes I would imagine, CB?

What's the alternative? To buy expensive players and pay our current ones even more...still no guarantee of success a few injuries and a drop in form and we could still end up relegated and in the financial do do. I don't believe we have the money to push on further (and never did have despite NCs claims) unless KL wants to sell up to an oil sheik. The club needs to concentrate on being self sustainable so that relegation doesn't equal collapse and administration again. The club (IMO) needs to keep improving the academy and aim to have a large number of good academy players in the team mixed with decent signings. I'd rather see money spent on the academy than more Gastons and Osvaldos.

Another thing that most definitely didn't happen and wasn't said on here ever were the claims by some that we wouldn't need to spend £100s of millions to make the champions league, that all our players would stay with us because they are all mates and that we'll take our inevitable place in the top 4 sooner rather than later with those and all the players that would queue up to join us for less money than on offer elsewhere because its a nice place to live, got an airport, near the sea and the new forest, the shopping in west quay will impress the players wives and the schools are amongst the best in Hampshire. No one ever claimed this, ever. It didn't happen.

I said I don't recall anyone saying they expected 4th this season or next season. That's a fact because I don't.

Who has said people did say that then? I don't recall anyone saying the people on here expected fourth this season or next. That's a fact too.

Plenty of people "lapped up" the talk though, didn't they? Or are you going to still pretend none of that happened?

Well spending 12-15M on players isn't a huge deal in todays premier league and signings such as Gaston and Osvaldo doesn't mean that every signing turns out that way. Signing a striker of the (supposed) calibre of Osvaldo was the right thing to do, just not him specifically. How many more points would we have if we had those two contributing with goals regularly?

Bottom line is, we haven't spent anywhere near what a Champions League side would and neither have Everton who gave it a good go this year.

The desire isn't to spend 100's of M but be strong enough to keep our best players (especially academy ones) for as long as feasibly possible and ensure we incrementally improve at each opportunity.

You can't plan to just be a mid table prem team.

Turkish I never understand what exactly you get out of pointing out that he said this or he said that?

Why does it matter?

Because when i said the people who said it were talking bol*ocks I was told I was negative, anti saints/Cortese and troll. I was none of those things, just realistic.
