SW5 SAINT Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Liverpool will bid for him now Will they try and sign him before the tournament starts.
rooney Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Congratulations Morgan-a quality player for us for so long and can now show this on the world stage.
Ohio Saint Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Great news .... part of me sad though cause we are know that he will now be of to Arsenal for sure Who knows, maybe HE will turn out to be the long serving legend that many here seem to be desperate for.
shurlock Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Wonder how many players get called into a WC squad a week before the tournament, having never played for their country.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 (edited) Just how daft does he look over overlooking Nasri now they don't have Ribery? Plenty of CMs, some good strikers, but attacking mids and wide players seem to be lacking. didn't overlook Nasrii.... he just dislikes him intensely. He's a very abrasive character by all accounts. Remy can play wide very well, looked good against Norway...then again who wouldn't. Griezmann looked good against Paraguay and he's not a knob like Ribery. At the end of the day France's 23 must be one of the youngest in the WC now. Edited 6 June, 2014 by Window Cleaner
BlakeySFC Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 So chuffed for Morgan, deserves that call up more than anyone!
Window Cleaner Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Wonder how many players get called into a WC squad a week before the tournament, having never played for their country. Just shows that he's been overlooked for far too long really. DD made a complete pig's ear of the tour to South America last summer, that's when Morgan should have been called up. Internal politics somewhere made him choose the awful Guilavogui and Capoue for reasons only known to the FFF . Grenier has been injured for most of this calender year, why he thought he'd hold up this summer no-one really knows, same for Mavuba. DD is a creature of habit, likes his binkies and doesn't seem to like change much.
buctootim Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Was surprised Ribery is only 31, he seems to have been around ages and looks ancient.

Obviously DD was impressed with his attitiute and training when with the extended squad.
scotty Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Was surprised Ribery is only 31, he seems to have been around ages and looks ancient. Agreed. He has the look of a middle-aged french merchant sailor who once got into a knife fight on Marseille dockside. While smoking a gauloise.

Yes, they'll all play except the 3rd keeper probably, especially with Cabaye's approximative tackling that gets him his fair share of cards. I expect Morgan to get at least a run on against Jamaica, think it's Sunday, might be tomorrow. Pogba hasn't looked all that good defensively of late and Mavuba is a walking wounded who won't last the tournament. Edited 6 June, 2014 by Window Cleaner

Probably because of his facial burn scars, they really don't do him any favours. Mind you Luke Shaw only passes for an under 30 if you look closely.
Berudenot2 Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Congratulations Morgan-a quality player for us for so long and can now show this on the world stage.Totally This.
mcjwills Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Liverpool will bid for him now Yeah £1M + £20M of ridiculous add ons, £18M being, if they find intelligent life on Mars.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Yeah £1M + £20M of ridiculous add ons, £18M being, if they find intelligent life on Mars. Still we'd have a better chance of cashing in on even that than an add-on for finding intelligent life in Pompey.
Hatch Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 brilliant news, lets hope he gets some decent game time.
Toon Saint Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Can't believe he has got into the actual WC squad after seemingly having no chance about 4 weeks ago. Made up for him!
Lazlo78 Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 not sure we can win here. Morgan may feel he would have been straight in if he had been at Arsenal, for example. Now he is in he is going to attract even more attention for the likes of Arsenal. An international for one of the big nations that is not playing champions league football is going to be keenly watched. I agree that we're not sure to win, call up or not, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect Morgan's price to rise after the WC to reflect his ability better... And that would leave us better of in the transfer market...
Graffito Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Another Saint that's gone from League 1 all the way to the World Cup. You want to play in the World Cup? Come to Southampton. Thoroughly deserved.

Pastor Patrón Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Superb news, he's the most important in our team and has been for a while. Hope it won't be the last chance he gets at international level.
scotty Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 I remember that. Although it was Gitanes. ah yes, the good old gitanes. And disque bleu. Happy memories, I'm still hacking them up now
SaintRobbie Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Thank god Gerrard plays for England, the old tapping up git!
St Chalet Posted 6 June, 2014 Author Posted 6 June, 2014 Glad he took my advice to him to take Ribbery and Grenier to a brothel in the week prior to the squad being confirmed.
mcjwills Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 See Luke Shaw reckons he is the one to look out for at the WC
Saint Garrett Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 So chuffed for him - be great for him to get on the pitch!
John Boy Saint Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 I know we have been searching for a song for him for ages as his name doesn't rhyme too well with much: but it fits into La Marseillaise ........ I bet some clever clogs could make it work some how. The French national anthem tune at SMS would be original too.
cellone Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 A lot of hard work and a little fate and finally MS gets the opportunity he deserves. Truly expect Morgan to make him self first choice, now and in the next tournament.

DuncanRG Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 That's a cracking interview. I think getting into the French team would have been a huge part of any decision he might take to stay or leave. Delighted he's got there playing for us and I hope it continues.
Graffito Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 What a great interview. Generous in praise of others and he has talked "exclusively" with the club. Quite a contrast with one or two others. Astronomy's clearly not his strong point because he's over the moon.
redder freak Posted 7 June, 2014 Posted 7 June, 2014 I think a bit of me wants France to win the world cup.
Mallagroth Posted 7 June, 2014 Posted 7 June, 2014 I think a bit of me wants France to win the world cup. Wash your dirty mouth out
Window Cleaner Posted 7 June, 2014 Posted 7 June, 2014 Still have to wait for the green light from FIFA though. If Morgan replaces Grenier, not too much problem, got injured or injury worsened, not hard to prove. However the case of Ribery is different, he was always crocked but was on the list all the same, they might have difficulty in convincing FIFA that he in fact got worse. No doubt they'll get away with it but Ribery was always a non-starter really.
krissyboy31 Posted 7 June, 2014 Posted 7 June, 2014 Delighted for Morgan, it's not before time. That makes 4 players who played for us in League 1, just 4years ago, going to Brazil. Shame Jose didn't get a late call.

Window Cleaner Posted 7 June, 2014 Posted 7 June, 2014 The deadline isn't reached yet, is it? Yes and no, iit's up until the eve of the side's first game but valid medical reasons must be put forward and approuved. There's a clause about the injury having to have detiorated and they must be able to proove that. Back injuries are sometimes hard to assess, prooving they've got worse when the player had done virtually sod all because of it for a while might be tricky. The french docs will come through though, otherwise they'll take their ball home and no-one will get a game..
