bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Starts tonight, 7pm on Sky Sports. Best sporting event of the Christmas period by some distance. Tough to look past Phil Taylor after the form he has been in this season, and the fact he is doubly motivated having not won it either of the last 2 years. Don't think Kirk Shepherd will make the final again. A good outsider bet might be Mark Dudbridge, who has made finals before and seems to have picked up a bit of form as well. Any other tips? Anyone going to the Ally Pally for a session?
Pancake Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Will probably have it one a fair bit. Shame its not on at the Tavern anymore. In theory Dudbridge should be out in the third to Part who I think will romp into the final again (beating Jenkins in the QF and Taylor in the Semi). The bottom half of the draw looks like a romp for Barny with maybe Lewis or Wade giving him a good game in the Semi. Im probably totally wrong though....
Scudamore Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 By some distance? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosconi_Cup Or is that too early?
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 The Mosconi Cup is very good, but it's in December, not over Christmas. Also, it isn't quite as good as the darts. Good that we won it again this year, though.
Hatch Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Taylor will won with both hands tied behind his back, I was invited to go on Monday, VIP table at the front , right in the middle. Free ticket, free booze. Can't go. made other plans beforehand. Gutted.
Scudamore Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Of course it completely passed me by this year...i really need to get Sky in the new house so that doesn't happen again...

Pancake Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Im looking forward to the Players Championships Finals at the Tavern in Jan, might pop along for a day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Players_Championship_Finals

Free ticket, free booze. Can't go. made other plans beforehand. Gutted. I have tickets for Tuesday lunchtime session, and we are sat at table right at front next to the stage. I will be on the telebox.
Hatch Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 What sort of "other plans" could possibly justify that decision? The ones the wife makes. No wonder the divroce rate is so high.
Scudamore Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 The ones the wife makes. No wonder the divroce rate is so high. You'll regret the decision when you divorce her. If you were a woman you'd store it in the memory for future arguments...
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 Enough of Hatch's wife problems! Seeing as I will be on the tele I need ideas for a humorous sign.
Scudamore Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 They don't like showing the rude ones...this much i know... "Your mum's under the table" for example would not go down well...so to speak...
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 I got on TV 4 times at the Premier League darts in Bournemouth last year, including a slo-mo shot into the ad break. All down to a £3 Canadian flag in support of John Part.
Hatch Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Enough of Hatch's wife problems! Seeing as I will be on the tele I need ideas for a humorous sign. Hatchs wife is a b1tch
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 golf sale Could do. Will you be watching Tuesday lunchtime. Only worth it if you are!
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 We are seeing Andy "The Pie Man" Smith, so was thinking of: Chicken & Mushroom, or Steak & Kidney?
Hatch Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Could do. Will you be watching Tuesday lunchtime. Only worth it if you are! probably, unless it clashes with Loose women.
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 probably, unless it clashes with Loose women. I think that is the day of the Loose Women Christmas Special. I've got it on series record so I never miss an episode.
Michelle Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 We are seeing Andy "The Pie Man" Smith, so was thinking of: Chicken & Mushroom, or Steak & Kidney? Chicken Balti rules. Fact.
bridge too far Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 Did I hear right - that a Russian woman is taking part?
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 Did I hear right - that a Russian woman is taking part? Yup, and I might get to see her if she gets past her Prelim round game against Remco van Eijden.

Saint in Paradise Posted 19 December, 2008 Posted 19 December, 2008 I wish this thread was in TMS so I could post what I really think of darts
bungle Posted 19 December, 2008 Author Posted 19 December, 2008 Many apologies. Thought Scholton would overcome his injury, and in 4th set it did look like Rodriguez has bottled it!
chrisobee Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Ah, that explains why Scholten was such a decent price. I thought it was a mistake when I saw it yesterday! Anyway John Part also lost against the exceptionally well known Bill Davis
chrisobee Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 Anyway you can easily win your tenner back tomorrow with Hills unless you are going to be at St Mary's at 4pm or more likely can't figure out which is the likely outcome of the following ! trousers Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I'll be watching the real World Championship in the new year
chrisobee Posted 20 December, 2008 Posted 20 December, 2008 I'll be watching the real World Championship in the new year It's a real shame there are 2 World Championships but are not Taylor and Van Barneveld the 2 best players in the world !? Would be hard to argue against it I suggest though of course the quality is still there in the BDO with the likes of Anderson and Webster. I no longer have Sky but I'll be watching the BDO Champs as well and looking forward to it a great deal. Have to admit there is something about the BDO version which the PDC Championship does not have though hard to describe exactly what it is though possibly that I'm really old and remember how much I enjoyed watching the likes of Bristow, Lowe, Wilson and Rees !!
bungle Posted 21 December, 2008 Author Posted 21 December, 2008 Russian bird Dobromyslova is out. Didn't really play well enough. Mardle through easily.
Pancake Posted 22 December, 2008 Posted 22 December, 2008 Will probably have it one a fair bit. Shame its not on at the Tavern anymore. I enjoyed watching those guys too, but they all joined the PDC in the end. And let's face it, anyone who's anyone plays in the PDC. The BDO tournament seems positively archaic by comparison. With regard to who's gonna win it this year, I really can't see past a rejuvenated Phil Taylor, although I'd tip Andy Hamilton as my dark horse. Like the look of the Austrian lad, Sujlovic, too. Very unorthodx, but totally unflappable.
Pancake Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 Some good darts from Wade tonight, he just needs to slow down his outs to make sure he picks them up.
bungle Posted 23 December, 2008 Author Posted 23 December, 2008 Lunchtime session was excellent. A good all day session on the booze. Good times.
Saint Martini Posted 29 December, 2008 Posted 29 December, 2008 Co "Matchstick" Stompé will win it. He's still on a high form his win in Germany.
tommi Posted 29 December, 2008 Posted 29 December, 2008 Some good darts from Wade tonight, he just needs to slow down his outs to make sure he picks them up. really? by his standard he was shocking! Made hard work of it ah?!
Saint Martini Posted 30 December, 2008 Posted 30 December, 2008 Co "Matchstick" Stompé will win it. He's still on a high form his win in Germany. Up against Taylor now, should be interesting with Stompé winning their last meeting.
bungle Posted 30 December, 2008 Author Posted 30 December, 2008 Up against Taylor now, should be interesting with Stompé winning their last meeting. Yeh, should be a good game when they meet, although Stompe wasn't at his best today he didn't waste any of the opportunites Mardle presented him.
