Ah but it's Clermont Foot. Clermont is a rugby city, football is of a very minor importance there so they could hire a gran from a retirement home to coach the team and no-one would give a toss. The average attendance at Montpied is about 3500, about 250000 people live in the catchment area and ASM Rugby get 21000 for every game and could get more if there were any more room at Marcel Michelin. It's innovative, perhaps they're trying to get more female supporters but in the great order of things it just doesn't matter.

True, but regardless of the size of the club or their support, they are still a L2 team. I couldn't see any club above Conference level appointing a female boss anytime soon here, so it's still a pretty big deal!

L1 isn't great in it's lower regions either. French football is a bit of a lame duck, great players, poor teams due to the savage fiscality of France which is necessary to pay for all the Mitterandian handouts. Window Cleaner Posted 7 May, 2014 Share Posted 7 May, 2014 Are you saying women can't manage football clubs? Now where did you get that idea ? All I've said is that Clermont Foot despite their L2 status isn't much of a club as clubs go. This lady won't be managing anything, just coaching the team, coaches manage nothing in France outside playing affairs. Now if Eastleigh appointed a woman coach, would that raise a great debate because CF 63 are certainly at about that level. The club has no money and very few fans, they probably just looked for novelty value or something that brings them a bigger government handout. igsey Posted 7 May, 2014 Share Posted 7 May, 2014 Good news. Wouldn't be too surprised to see Hope Powell get into the men's game at some point.

Huffton Posted 7 May, 2014 Share Posted 7 May, 2014 Been there, done that. Bloody hell, I'd forgotten about that. The manageress, proper footy program, and many a teenage stiffy thinking about Cherie Lunghi in the showers!
