Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 Bridgey has retired at the age of 33 after a season with Reading. Saints have just wished him all the best via Twitter.. Your best moments?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/reading/transfer-talk/news/bridge-announces-retirement-from-football_153742.html Great player for us & had a decent career but always felt he could've done more. Shame to retire in this way too.
Colinjb Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 His career seemed to fizzle out in the end, he had a good run though. The memory of his partnership down the left with Marsden springs to mind rather then any specific moment.

Chewy Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 On a personal level my best moment is his non-handshake with that utter cvnt terry. Great player for us, and for Chelsea for a while before form and injuries took their toll. Would have loved him here as shaws backup this season, especially as it ended up being his last as a pro. Good luck on whatever you do next.

davefoggy Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 Loved Bridge at saints, leaving us was a bad move (take note Shaw and others) A great prospect that never fully reached his potential. Good luck for the future Wayne
the wedge Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 He should be applauded for the simple fact that in an era of multi coloured, revolting boots he still steadfastly wore Puma Kings.
ART Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 Making me feel old reading this news of Wayne's retirement. At Saints Wayne was an incredible part of the squad and as said above, players like Shaw, would do well to keep in mind, the twists and turns in Bridgey's career after he left Saints. Wishing the guy all the very best for the future but grieving for what could have been had he remained with the club,.
CB Fry Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 Pretty perfect career really. Achieved everything you could hope to in his first six or seven years, and then spent the best part of a decade absolutely hauling it in from various employers for doing essentially no work while at the same time ploughing some sort from a girl band. Total legend.
WealdSaint Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 His transfer away from us was the start of Chelski. He played well for us and we got good money for him when he left (not his fault that we didn't make the most of it) Sad he's retired at only 33, but then he's not short of a bob or two I expect

He wouldn't have won league titles, the FA cup played in the champions league and earnt £80k a week if he'd remained at saints.

L1Minus10 Posted 6 May, 2014 Share Posted 6 May, 2014 Great for us and I didn't begrudge him his Chelsea move. However, he eventually was 2nd choice to Cole for about 2 years and still signed a new contract which in my eyes signalled he was just in it for the cash and not bothered about playing. Should have moved on from Chelsea much sooner as he was on his way down when he eventually made the break. A good career and I'm sure he's made a pile of cash but he didn't achieve as much playing wise as he should have done.

I seem to recall he was first choice for one season, then replaced by Del Horno when Mourinho came in. Could be wrong. Understood the move, no hard feelings, just didn't work out great for him. Still did pretty well. Guess really.

sfc1976 Posted 9 May, 2014 Share Posted 9 May, 2014 As others have alluded to, was never going to be world class player and so pretty much nailed it - doing as little as possible for as much as possible while getting stuck into a cracking little filth bag.
